People hating cheap seed companies.

I for one, am so sick of hearing people bitch and moan about who had what and who stole what especially in magazines.

Seriously, for the end user trying to buy strains from some of these high priced strains with more authentic genetics is just impossible..

A third of a weeks wages for blueberry? no thanks!

I don't understand why people cant see that the cheaper breeders while not being the ferrari's of the genetics world enable a lot of people like me to grow multiple strains.

Sure they market, or they couldn't get the volume there to reduce costs and keep margins. (*slaps forehead*).

Are people suggesting they claim their strains are "only average"

It seems their are snipers all over the board shooting down with comments about how terrible a strain actually is, oh its just this its so pathetic. blah blah blah.

I didn't think weed snobs existed, but they clearly do.

The thing that sucks is these snipers are quite simply ruining this persons day, whos ALREADY paid for the seeds.

Id also place some money on the fact they are mindlessly repeating something they read or were told. Like celebrities and politics.

Look, like most things, you get what you pay for. Seed prices are very cheap considering what seeds offer. We spend substantial amounts of cash to grow the plant, so why should the seed budget ever suffer? Genetics are the backbone of a good setup, when you have dialed everything in to the T genetics are going to be the only large improvements you can make.

Sure knock-off genetics are fine for the average hobbiest, but when it comes to medicine and overall quality of the product you are going to want the real thing. Honestly I would pay much more for good genetics, seed prices are low.

This is sort of what i mean.

Forget knockoffs for a second and think just cheaper strains.

I didn't want to mention the specific strains because then the opinion could be i had an agenda behind the post.

There is an assumption that a strain that costs $50 USD a 10 pack will not have the same capacity for greatness.

In something like breeding, you surely cannot attribute the cost to the actual quality of the product as the cost depends on so many variables related to the procedures and systems the breeder uses.

However people assume they must be putting the price down because its not as good. And that they must be marketing as a function of this lack of quality.

Do people not realise that its incredibly stupid to not market a product that your dramatically increasing production of to help lower prices?

Noone questions that the other prices are put up unreasonably! Thats the funny thing, why does everyone have so much disposable money? lols.

i feel your pain but, certain things are held in high regard. higher the demand the higher the price. with that said i can think of one breeder who has nothing but, fire and his strains are $50 or less and i'd put his strains against ANY breeder. i myself like expensive shit, it just makes me feel good when i buy it, not necessarily smarter, but, satisfied.

Look at Mandala...they put out Satori, which i think is about 30 usd a 10 pack...and that's a top 10 strain. Its definitely has its staying power within a garden...and its no slouch!

EDIT: not to say i won't drop some serious dough for some exclusive shit...some only 20 packs made (not released to public, but made...) type shit...LMAO. But i still know when a good $30 is legit!

I have a seed pack purchase ceiling of $100, which I'm usually well under. For this amount of money, which would otherwise buy me a quarter of questionable quality weed, I can purchase a really good 10 pack and still have enough for a pizza and beer.

10 seeds - 5 females - 5 budding plants worth of weed. Of those five females I will usually have at least 1 keeper, which I can keep alive and CLONE indefinitely so long as my abilities permit.

That's a lot to offer for under $100.

..and a lot of people are selling nothing more than puffery.

Silly rationalization, that if the price is high it means quality is superior. A good salesman sells the sizzle, not the steak. I'm willing to pay up for quality steak, but not a penny for sizzle.

You get what you pay for.

I have personally grown out the 'cheaper' seeds as well as the 'pricier' seeds...and I can
def tell you that the genetics of a strain DO indeed make a diff in the potency and
quality of the finished product. There, now I said all that and maybe got my message
across without dissing anything or anybody...hell makes ya proud, right?

By all that blather above, I mean that when I grow some $30 buck for 10 seed packs,
and I get doggishly impatient and snip an very early bud or some leaf, then I get one
type of minimum buzz and not a good high and def not a stone.
However, when I grow out the $130 buck for 10 seed packs and I get the same
compulsive urge to smoke some early leaf or bud, then I get a much more satisfactory
buzz with a moderate high and a head stone of good proportions.
Then there is the overall healthiness of the good genetics, and the diff of hermi-ing
those compared to the 'other' lower cost brands, as well as the almost clockwork
like timing of the growth pattern and flowering cycle that is just randomized for
some or most of the 'cheaper' seeds.
That being said, whatever your pocket and budget can afford, it is all good.
There has never been ANY bad weed grown, just harvested and cured poorly.
Like pussy, the worst stone I ever had from pot was still pretty damn good
regardless of the genetics.

Reality is you don't have to pay $15-20 per seed for top shelf genetics. You're paying for puffery, and you are in fact getting what you pay for. Puffery doesn't improve the quality of the genetics a whit.

When blockhead was around it was a midprice strain about 80 bucks I think and it was by far better than any 150 dollar strain I've grown.I had that pheno for over 4 years and got lazy and lost her.I'll never make that mistake again god I hate seedgrows and I imagine I'll do several before finding that special pheno

its hit and miss even with real expensive seeds generally only a fraction of the seeds are the genetics you're looking for so you grow out all ten and have to work hard and maintain all cuttings till you know which is the best. great genetics or not seeds shouldnt cost as much as they do considering how easy they are to make. even the cheap seeds are overpriced if you think about it.

I agree with Pythagllio, when alot of the time you are only paying for puffery. Company's who simply have more money to put on advertizing than there genges are worth. I've spent $30 on seeds and got just as good if not better than money I've spent on other much more expsensive seeds.

I have no probelem spending the high dollar for well known genitics either. If the breeder has proven to put in the work and wants $20 or more a seed and I have the money then I will pay his for his work.

Thanks everyone for the responses, lots of food for thought and valuable opinions!

The thing that led me to my original post was reading of certain fantastic medical strains listed by companies,. as their most expensive strain. Don't hippies normally pay out pharmaceuticals for profiting of drugs from the sick? Well here are some breeders doing it to me lol's.

The argument seems to be that a LOT of people , experienced highly skilled growers have grown out a lot of strains and found the more expensive strains generally a class above.

I could never disagree with someones opinion , however I think that given the massive effect a placebo could have, knowing youv'e spoiled yourself on some blueberry seeds for example could have a huge influence on how we actually perceive it.

I noticed my original post included my claiming to be sick of whinging, but in effect i was whinging myself. I just wanted to call myself out on that lol.

Shit it takes me three grows just to get started.First the original seedplants keeping a copy of each female.Second an all clone grow but with some that may not be too desirable but you kept a copy of each female, have to grow them out.Third finally a clone grow of just the phenotype you want..finally.Anyone got a faster way I'm all ears.If you just grow out your desired pheno on the second grow,it wont be much of as grow lol

some nirvana strains i grew have been some of the best. even the northern lights from *******.com was sh#t hot smoke. and that was $20.00 for 12 seeds.
it is what your willing too pay for. but some of the cheap breeders still have a few nice phenos here and there. but think about it 30.00 euros for 10 greenhouseseeds.nl white widow now thats hardly breaking the bank.

the pic shows a 2 month cured nugg of top 44 from nirvana. the plant was dripping in resin like a shandelier even the underside leaves and branches were covered in resin.
a great pheno from a so called cheap breeder.:snowkiss:

peace.

The way I look at it:
The expensive seed often comes from breeders who do a lot of work developing new strains. There is loads of work and money needed in the selection process to continue to make new strains. I see no problem if the grower ends up paying the bill.
If you want a certain taste or effect, pay the money, make a mum and enjoy it for years.

Some of the cheap seed companies sells the same strains they been doing for years. It's a lot cheaper to maintain genetics rather than combine new, IMO it's not a reason they should be worse. One of my all time favorites was 30$ for 10 seeds(Nirvana "Aurora Indica").

I absolutely refuse to by any seeds that cost more than one hundred dollars.
Why?
Because that's bullshit. No seeds are worth that much. If anybody thinks they have to pay that much for seeds then, they need some new friends.
But hey if you buy into the hype, you pay the price.
