well, i have just spent another week of my life repairing yet another place that i destroyed while growing.

i'm going to start a business that repairs grow damage.

so you have big holes in drywall from routing fans and buckled floors from water damage? all sorts of weird wires and plumbing run through the house that cannot be explained? ruined carpet? an unbelievably dank odor permeating the building?

and you've got to turn it over the the realtor tomorrow?

who ya gonna call? call fauxfacade.kom, the original "it didn't happen here" company!

discreet evidence removal and coverup guaranteed!

lol. fauxfacade.kom!!!

I put pond liner or vinyl floor in every room no matter what. It has saved me many a floor buckling.

Its not an airline.
Its more like the hoses on the ebb and gro with a top feed and a media wick.
It connects the individual bucket to the "main res" or "brain"
The brain has top off hooked up to a float valve to insure that there is always the right amount of water...
The pulse is is top feed duration and frequency, "a 30 second pulse of water every hour".
Technically one could say its recirculating.
I think d9 has gone months with never changing his solution and perpetually harvesting the entire time.....
My solution temps have been 75-80 the entire grow...plants are very happy.

Thanks Bro....Someone made a post about an air line like with a "tire valve" and I thought it might`ve been a blast of O2 to the lower container for increased dissolved oxygen content....

Solution temps below don`t really matter if the medium above the rootmass is sittin in isn`t heat sensitive and insulated , cuz it`s obvious this is kinda sorta like Blumats in reverse fed from the bottom as they need it , where blumats are gravity fed instead of wicked.....regardless....

I see how that could easily be misleading.

Tire valves make a nice water tight seal for pretty cheap...
The air line is a recent adaptation/evolution that disciple has made/discovered.
fits over the air valve easily...
The PPK is an ever evolving creature, thats what makes it fun.

thanks for stopping by, fred! now that i've got you here i can thank you for all the good, solid, no nonsense info i have picked up from reading your post's over the years on various forums. thank you!

i really didn't tear the place up all that bad but i wanted to leave it in ready to rent condition. everything looks so nice that no business person is going to the added expense to tear shit up just to see what may or may not have happened. fresh paint. carpets steam cleaned. everything spotlessly clean. yard freshly cut and hedges trimmed.

but you really can see a company out in LA specializing in grow op clean up. they do everything else out there. "Do you love growing but hate cleaning it up?" who ya gonna call?

this device is not an "invention" in the sense that no single idea or design element did not exist before we started. that is, all ideas have been thought of and explored by others before but never put together into one coherent application. or used to intentionally solve some of the problems faced by those growing indoors in containers. it really did evolve right here on icmag in front of everyone step by step. reading the whole thread shows the process but is not required to build and use one. the first hand watered version is shown on page one and it would still work just fine today to grow a nice plant.

we, and i mean we as in all the people who contributed ideas and feedback and gambled with their own time and resources to build and try it. who tried variations and altered it to their own needs. who proved it. we evolved it. and are still evolving it.

a lot of people have now grown large plants in it and what we are seeing is that the device is not the limiting factor. it's capable of growing to the limit of your lights and environment. and abilities!

it's slo-mo hydro but it grows plants just as fast and just as big as any high speed water for o2 system i have tried.

for reasons that we do not yet truly understand it maintains chemical stability of the nutrient solution in a way that is freakishly disturbing because all of the experience says that you just can't keep inputting solution without change outs or you will get an imbalance causing ph swings, salt accumulation, deficiencies, stimulation's, or antagonisms.

well, here, in this device, you can.

it also heals sick plants!

it heals sick finances too, you know you are going to harvest every plant you put into one.

why don't you build one and try it? i would love to hear your impressions!

Great thread ya'll..

D9 what size tubing are you using for the pulse terminals now/lately and is it the same as the tubing being used for the lower, recirculating part? Are you still using two PVC pipes for the pulse delivery?

howdy, ghudda! welcome!

right now i'm not using anything but when i set up i'll still use the 3/8" od poly tubing and the latex tubing connectors. i won't use the pvc pipes this time as i think i've got another way to diffuse the pulse. i'll show it soon.

yes, it is the same tubing.

what size system do you want to build? what kind of lighting?

That`s about as unselfish an explanation of evolving knowledge as I`ve ever read Bro....and as stated....

How the Hell can yas keep ph , ppm`s and nutrient uptake with proper transpiration with exploding foliage and root growth in such parameters without imbalances , lockouts , and shit goin sideways in such a setup , but ....yet yas can....so...

That said , gotta go with whatchas know cuz seein it first hand , up close and personal on a regular basis is in "real time" and rules the day......and...

If I wasn`t so full fledged sold on Blumat Maxi`s for big plants in bigger containers , your PPK would be/is my next choice for killin it K.I.S.S. wise as others are obviously catchin on with.....but....

The longer I grew , the more I longed for less time invested for the same returns and why I ended up with coco dtw before I shut down so I had more real world time with family and me....anyways...

Bigtime respect for takin care of your landlord`s property once yas fucked it up growin yer ass off...LOL....

Not many around like you D9...bet on it....and....I`m waitin on some stoner ta stumble up on our bullshit and start a Grow-op Cleanup Service...:moon:.....Should we set up a website and sell franchises ?...

Fauxfacade.kom......Who yas gonna call...?....

Glad you asked! First grow. Been researching for quite awhile. Have a bit of outside expertise to assist, but largely planned on copying what you'd been doing.

Plans aren't set in stone, but a 6x6' area I plan to dedicate to flowering, and a 4x6 or so area for vegetative growth. Was going to flower with a 1k HPS bare-bulb vertical. Veg them up for a month or so, until they're fairly large. Eight total plants. Not expecting to fall flat on my face, and will be adding another 6x6 and four more plants after a run or two.

Not sure which lighting to veg with. Seems that most are going with HPS, while most of my research points to using MH for the blue spectrum. Have to assume that MH produces a stockier plant, better for horizontal use?

Hey D9... I am pretty sure you are anti coco for various reasons but what about a blumat ppk? Just throwing it out there, I think ashes is doing coco ppks. Id like to hear your thoughts on the blumat media wick bucket...

D9 addressed the possibility of blumats earlier in the thread. I believe he foresaw problems because they both are gravity fed.

I don't see adding blumats as a step forward for this system. There would be less movement/recirculation which would likely affect the stability of the nutrient solution, also you wouldn't get the d.o. you get with the large pulses through the airy medium.

snook, i think i am prejudiced against taking any bud early and so must recuse myself to avoid a conflict of interest and the appearance of impropriety lest those reading come to erroneous conclusions about my motivations cultivating weed.

in other words, how the fuck should i know?

seriously, though! i let mine run as long as possible because i think it not only produces more weight, going long develops a more complex high and taste/aroma with the strains i have tried.

Yea, yea, I'm good with that ^^^
but you've nevere clipped a bud, by mistake, during defoiating?!! I'm not saying, do it on a regular basis but??
I cant seem to NOT clip one. and then just threw it away!!! no burning/vapeing?

maybe there are true "fast" strains out there but i haven't run into any yet. i think 9 weeks is fast.

how about some pics of those red trichs?

I do not know how to take tric pics. I have a hard enoug time with big stuff.. see below.

Anyway, on anoter note.. I have gnats! and I'm getting yellowing at the bottom, moving up. The only diferences in this, than the last grow is: more rice hulls and new black hose. the hose is marked AQUATIC ECO SYSTEMS, INC., nothing else (3/8x1/4).
I had used it to produce some household RO drinking water and it had a 'garden hose' taste.. maybe same 'gassing' problem as ImaginaryFriend encountered with some hose way back. changed it asll out today, drained all ppks, pulse rez and controll bucket, refill.

and then there is this little plant.. any of you have a clue? must have come with the rice hulls. Was hiding directly behind one of the stalks. Dont think it's rice. That's a shot glass.

Hey, I didnt read below yet, hope your new environment, is finished and it works out, first go..

Is there any logic in more rice hulls, faster finish??

I have set up a couple buddies using that AQUATIC ECO SYSTEMS, INC. tubing and have not seen any issues from offgassing, etc affecting plants in the ppk.

I'm on vacation right now with Blumats running my PPK buckets :D Also, I got buckets just a few inches from a 600w dimmed to about 400w and I put simple mercury thermometer down into the medium on the side that faces the light...the temperature different is the same as it is in air from the radiant heat. I'm just using the orange homedepot homer buckets. When I get some run off it will even evaporate back up into the wick with the bottom buckets being white.

If I wasn`t so full fledged sold on Blumat Maxi`s for big plants in bigger containers , your PPK would be/is my next choice for killin it K.I.S.S. wise as others are obviously catchin on with.....but....
The tailpiece is super important, especially with blumats! With the blumats its clear to see we apply a lot of the stuff d9 has talked about like always, always keeping the medium wet. So, we need the tailpiece so we can keep a small portion of our root mass in a zone for water roots, the ones that suck all the juice up like ya say Fred, while the rest have a place they love to spread to.

Blumats can be pressurized. Even without pressure, gravity can move a lot of water in between times of pulses. I still don't know if the pulse really does much, but I don't see why it would hurt to pulse AND run blumats if it does.

Hydro/areponics is just like LEAN manufacturing techniques that have been brought to America from Japan. Ya give the plant what it needs, just before it needs it. Not too soon and of course ya can't be too late. The pulse doesn't work like that in principle.

I think potentially blumats could be used in a recirculating system in a novel way. They are designed to let soil dry out a little bit before dripping sure, but they don't gotta be used that way. They are like meters and switches we can position right in our plants to regulate the PWT and optimal moisture profiles in the medium WITHOUT having to ever submerge our roots/medium in stagnant water. Just imagine watering dripping out of the tailpiece... if ya add more water than can be dripped out ya just created a PWT that you can increase by increasing the flow. If ya don't use side-wall holes the PWT will climb up into the bucket until it totally submerges a blumat sensor and shuts the dripping off for a bit while the PWT then drains. So, it would preform a function similar to the pulse by cycling through periods of higher and lower water levels that push and pull gases around.

If ya dumped 2 gallons of water into a bucket at once or dripped it... which would supply more D.O.? Seems obvious to me it would be better to spread it out, but this matter really isn't of importance because we are using are mediums in smart ways. We gotta be careful what dogma and wisdom we apply from hydroponic concepts. Again, I could be wrong, but it seems obvious to me if the benefit of the pulse was so simply explained by more flow, ya guys should just be running as much water as ya can which means ya need faster ways for the water to leave THROUGH THE BOTTOM like ashes is doing. No rocket science. Just put a medium in a RDWC setup basically. Well, a RDWC setup probably is always going to need more drainage added as the systems use pressure to increase the flow which we can not do. We are limited by the resistance water has with our medium against atmospherics pressure, gravity, and permeability it self(how a medium lets liquids/gases flow through it.)

Anyway, I hope to see some blumat/PPK hybrids whether they are gravity fed or pressurized. With a lot of hard work, collaboration, and of courses learning from errors, I think we can keep moving toward simpler and simpler systems that ultimately give us better results.

Anyway, on anoter note.. I have gnats! and I'm getting yellowing at the bottom, moving up. ]

Is there any logic in more rice hulls, faster finish??
And again, why we shouldn't use coco(I think he does anyway.) Yellowing at bottom, moving up sounds like it could be from too high of temps and not enough humidity.

I'm pretty sure Snook can't seen this and I've probably missed it before, but what are the real reasons to use rice hulls to begin with? The shape of them is a good size, cheap, they don't break down, they can grow beneficial bacteria on em(or fungus, I don't recall), they have a CEC, and what else am I missing?

Hey Boyd...my last run was 'very good' only changes were, like I said, more rice hulls, and the tubeing. Only reason I get on the tubeing, it was going great guns untill about 7 days ago, day 62 bloom. I didnt check PPMs but nothing but 600ppms going in. RO water run thru this tube tastes like plastic..Guess it could be something else. How long your buds been using this tube.. complete grow?
