Not Another Crappy Day in Paradise....Part Six

It's been one of those days. Last week we had three cold fronts lining up....after a month of sun. The first one stalled hairs before reaching us. The second dropped some rain...down the road got pounded but I dodged that bullet.

The third and final one got me. Good. An inch half of rain in a half hour. Might as well have stood on a ladder and poured five gallon buckets of water directly on my plants.

Oh well. Thats why they call it outdoor growing.

This evening I took a peek and I have a mess to fix. That last front is now clearing the Big Island and the temperature here has dropped five degrees in the last hour. That's good. Behind the front are cold dry north winds....and the new week looks to be dry....A sunny day tomorrow would help.

Looking for a silver lining...all the new holes are soaked...I saved two bucks worth of water.

While the rain fell I took a nap...what else am I suppose to do? I could have yelled at wifey....but the rain wasn't her fault. For some unknown reason I am a bastard when my plants are getting pounded....go figure. So here I am...almost midnight...dropping another crappy post in another crappy day.

Well? Where do you want to go?

Lahina?...Naa....we'll have plenty of time later to tell that story.

I got a question....Why the hell are you running sativas from years ago?

Let's see...the're idiot proof....that's a decent reason. They yield big....another reason. I can...that's not a reason....wait...yes it is. We are one of the few places on this earth that has the right photoperiod. And lastly I think Sativas are due for a resurgance. Too much potential there to ignore.

How's this? Indica's are boring.

Yes I said it. B O R I N G.

Finally got a taste of GS Cookies...Great taste...doesn't get you that high. Many of you would call it great daytime smoke....

Here's a newsflash If I'm gonna smoke I want to get high. Why go halfway there? Function? Done this long enough to function no matter how stoned I am. Should I ever smoke too much...it doesn't happen because I say "That's enough...I'm high"....the exception to that is Grey's oil.

Todays word is Hype.

I don't know why you smoke...a nice taste wrapped around a decent high is a great thing...and you already have my list somewhere above. Those strains do the trick.

And just for the record Skunkdog is still number 1 on that list.

GSC is like fucking a beautiful chick that had a frontal labotomy....not that I have ever done that...and if I did I certainly wouldn't admit to it....but it could be said...never mind.

Boy...there's some TMI

Yea I know....wandering.

Dawn....since this is the first year I've been doing the clones year round assembly line style the yield drop from summer to winter is about 50%. A very big bite. Waiting a couple of weeks is smart...better sun ahead...yield too.

Long story short don't expect a jump in your net just because you have twice the plants growing over winter. It's a wash.

The outlaw in me likes the fact about what and where you do it. The legal in me likes to take a plant or two a day and not worry about a 40 pot onetime circlejerk.

There Up...

There Up...

Ahhh....Spring....We are between two coldfronts, one leaving the area, the other, too far north to drop another blast of liquid happiness. Looks to be a wonderful week.

Along with the nice weather everything is green...Or yellow...You guys on the other islands having problems with fireweed?

Wandering already....where was I?

Thats right...spring. The Jackarandas all bloom....the fishing gets way better....the whales are heading back to Alaska along with the plovers....who are back in the their tuxes....and the sound of choppers in the air.

That's right...Green Harvest...There up. They did a fast pass over me...no interest shown.

We heard 'em and had already did the plant toss before they looked.

So...BI guys....my bet is they will be there next week. This week....which looks to be nice...my young clones gotta stay inside. Nice timing guys.

Also brings up the problem of do I take almost mature plants....now....or say fuck it....it's not like there is anything big out there....last time they did this I went out and took young stuff and they didn't me a second glance. Took 'em for nuthing....and jammed up my schedule to boot.

Besides, this is where they spend the last of the Federal money. New fiscal year is comming up. I doubt they have their heart in it....more like showing the flag.

So I think I'll take a chance. I'm under my numbers...but possibly have a few more mature....There definition and mine are two different animals.

Of course I will be staying home anyway....hopefully I'll be bored.

Hey buddy! you get my thumbs up on the sativas bro. I'm all about finding better meds for morning or working situations. hell yeah you are in the best place to be growing sativas and you are legal. Get your inner sativa on and show me some pics like this.

You know, with them other tomatoes in them.:)

I think you'll get a chance to get with the real cookies sometime and you will not be disappointed. The real GSC is not functional smoke or daytime weed.
You guys in paradise got the most to gain with the future legal loosening if we get to a point where states can sell to each other.
there's a whole country full of grey haired old farts like me who want to smoke some honest to gawd maui wowie and probably some old fart near you who has the magic beans. Last week the mainland media was scattered with people requesting weaker weed.
Medical grade smoke is crushing people who want to pass around a joint at a party. I've had 2 ugly experiences with people getting too high after I smoked them out. Maui is supposed to be home of the original feel great herb.
Bring back the old school genetics OH! Smokers like me around the world are counting on you.

I'm with ya on this OH, I've got 5 new sativa/mostly sativa strains to try next fall and I can't wait. I hate the paranoia/raciness of some strains but it's well worth it when you find that one that just makes you happy/giggly or just blows your brain apart. Indicas get me stoned/medicated/couchlocked anywhere I smoke them, sativas shine brightest for me when I do a little work and set the mood (so to speak) with great music, the right lighting and even a little positive meditation beforehand. Much more of a setup (kind of like psychedelics) for me than smoking indicas. Now if I need pain relief or need to collect some major Z's, no sativa will fill that bill.

My plan for next season (which starts in a month :p) is vegging sativas in May/June and flowering naturally as soon as they decide they will. I've got a couple strains that will go 90-120 days and I have no idea when they will begin flowering so that's uncharted ground.

I'll take cuts from those girls and veg them until Jan 1 and flower them for a second harvest in late winter.

All my indicas will be vegged from Sept 1 until Jan 1 (I use outdoor supplemental lighting to keep them in VEG*(edit) - it doesn't take that much) and I'll flower them during the coldest months (Jan-March) and get the best buds I can from them.

I upsized all my pots for the next go around to 25 gal and this year I used tomato cages to support them and help reduce damage when moving them and that worked quite well so that will be part of the plan moving forward.

The outlaw in me likes the fact about what and where you do it. The legal in me likes to take a plant or two a day and not worry about a 40 pot onetime circlejerk.

Sometimes I look around and I think "Holy Shitsnacks"* what the fuck am I doing!!! I have the Coast Guard, and all manner of military aircraft flying over on a daily basis (I'm very close to a major military airbase) but for the most part this is such an urban area that those guys are just concentrating on getting their birds safely to their destination or on the ground and are not looking to bust anybody for plants. Honestly I worry more about the odd utility worker, tree trimmer and the friggin satellite photography than anything. One day Google Earth will have a hell of a shot of my grows for anyone to see.

If I could grow trees like you do I would, but that would only work for Sativa/Sativa dominant strains - the indicas would rot in our hot, humid fall weather - not to mention what I would lose every year to the hurricane gods. Containers keep my stuff mobile - I have the ability to move them where the sun is and keep them out of the weather that would completely ruin them. It's a workout that most people wouldn't subject themselves to, but other than watching hot young women work out, it beats the hell out of going to the gym.

When you're cranky cause it's raining, I'm tired as hell from moving everything, but I sleep well knowing they are out of the weather and not rotting/molding as I sleep.

Look at it this way guys....if I screwed the pooch I'd say so.

Yesterday was boring....for some of us. One of us had an exciting day....no damage done...but it ain't my story to tell. Today was boring all the way around. Friday they move the choppers ...so Green Harvest #1 is in the books.

BI get ready for a half assed trip. Nothing to be proud about with this run. Show the flag, spend the money, and get the hell out of Dodge.

This time I did some things right....or in other words I didn't freak out and start cutting. Took a single Triangle Kush plant that was ready and left the rest alone. It could have been painful. Very.

Now they are done, we have a baseline to work with. Next three weeks are GH free. Maybe more. This whole sequestering shit the Congress is pulling has gotta effect their funding next year. That'll be good.

Nuff said about them...They'll be back. Fuck that donkey when we get to it.

Chunky....I can do that. Gonna have to. Last year blew chunks.

As for the GSC, they were the real deal. Grown here by guess who?

I went down and got the chip off my shoulder...or tried to....and repeated the process. I was a bit harsh in the last post...curing a few days helped....but still....not even close to the top 10.

There is just so much better floating around...I swallowed the hook line and sinker....the hook had hype for bait. Live and learn.

Please don't get me started about the day where states can sell weed to each other. Just because I'll be long dead when it finally is allowed....and it has been my wet dream for years.

See how this works out. Back in the old days....

Oh fuck!...not the wayback machine!

Relax...I'll make it quick...

When we worked the cane, we did huge single strain Sativa open pollinations, year after year....some went for a decade....more. Then things got hot and we went into the Game Over mode.

Wayback machine done

The seeds sit in my partners freezer....so I can work with the old fart reference. All in different unmarked bags. No idea of what is what. Mango, Bloodweed, Black Thai, Grape Koolade. the Mother, Redhair and twenty more with no names

Thousands of seeds. I shudder to think of the unseen Sativa generations....priceless shit just waiting to be sorted out and caterorized. I'm sure there is a little gold in there.

If this summer is good it will allow me to forget about clones and I can start that project this winter. Still, to do it right, they all should be done long season....and I'm not as young as I was.

And Chunky....my Sativas drop people too  There is nothing weak about these Sativas. Some will couchlock you. Others will expand your mind...anthills become facinating...never mind...long story.

Dawn....I hear you. The indicas have a place in the garden....I'm sure gonna keep what I found or others gifted me. The market will be there for those. My sativas, I am told do nothing for pain. So I should be growing both.

I know nothing about FL's growing season. The one thing I can say is the Sats take a bit longer than advertised sometimes. Mine have been going for two weeks and will be ready mid October. Indicas need to be harvested at day x, but Sats can always go another week. Your photoperiod is different...so I may be wrong.

Upsizing with Sats can be a two edged sword. Smaller pots go off faster...bigger pots take longer and yield more. The branches love to break when they are packing it on and you gotta move them fast. They are easy to fix though. Better have some big cages

I have baisicly the same problems with humidity as you. There are some strains that I just laugh at when they show me the finished product....like I can grow that here? Sure....not. Hopefully the weather gods smile on you....but don't bet on it.

And for the record you can not grow a tall indica here. I have yet to see an indica that won't bud as soon as it is outside. Photoperiod never gets long enough for veg.

Looks like decent weather ahead...so I have no reason to yell at wifey....who the hell am i bullshitting?

Dirtboy..

I thought it was odd that they started with us...either way it's no big thing. It's done.
Bastards were out to spend what ever was left over from this fiscal year. I think it's a use it or lose it type of thing.

Come August we'll see the Apocalypse Now verson.

Thanx for the info...every little bit helps.

Heard constant helicopter noise for 3 days this week, now I know what the v.c. felt like.
Seemed like they were running grids, from the ridge lines down to the ocean, south to north.

Been following your threads for quite awhile now oldhaole and they are a great read with stunning genetics and trees :good:
What did you think of the Dieselrella from DGS and would you run those genetics again?? :chin:
Best of Luck with those Green Harvest frackers :gday:

Hey b00m.

How'd this year go?...or should I say how is this year going?

Dieselerra.

Would you like the short or long answer? No problem...I'll give you both.

Short answer...Yes. I'd run 'em again.

But more for the reason is it goes off early....here...and when the green harvest frackers do there appointed rounds....all they find is a wet stump....that makes them very unhappy.

The smoke was good. You hear Diesel and you think fuel...it wasn't like that. It yielded too. More than a lb off a plant that was six foot sideways. Don't remember any WPM problems. The buds get fat...Kinda fluffy....so very little mold. We did have some rain if I remember correctly...Passed the torture test.

Here are a couple of pics

Week before harvest.

Full plant....looks like another month to go. I plucked a lot of leaves off of her then took this pic.

JOJO...you may or may not see GH next week...Sorry my friend...that's the best I can do. Either way, it wasn't, or won't be, a big one.

Festivus...I saw two choppers. Grey saw the same two. Other choppers were running stuff to Ko'oholawe this week....from the Armory. That path takes them kinda close to you. That job is done so your place should quiet down.

and it still sucks
you cant fix sucks hahahaha

if you are telling me this is pot that has any kind of 'power' you need to look at yourself in the mirror and start making changes in your life.
you dont know what powerful pot is.
hahahahaha
please know im kidding a little
but im kinda serious

heres how it works in Maui with GSC and a Sour Gun http://www.smokesour.com/?page_id=392....

you grab a bud ooooo smells pretty nice not over powering mostly subtle but pleasing its like a big undertone
load the bowl apply the fire/breath in
get the barrell nice and thick and milky as you can in one breath
breathe out thru your nose
tastes like it smells - bubba undertones. only they are the featured smell/flavor. ????????????
feels ahhhhhhhhh maybe.
pull out the bowl and with the one breath clear the bong
you feel the 'power' for about 2 minutes.

which is just long enough to have a fresh bowl of skunkdawg ready to take you were you really want to go while tasting something way more defined.
thats the truth homey.

gsc is built for those with lower end tolerance levels.

if the taste matched the ferociousness of the look maybe itd be different story.... maybe thatd make up for the difference.

but....

smoking gsc is like watching ms delawares do porn.
sure. its porn. shes good looking.
ill watch.i did watch.
NO TALENT.
not worth watching again.
thats gsc to me

Ive also used the term 'nickleback pot' to describe gsc.
because thats what it is.

i can keep going listing examples of celebrated mediocrity.... which is an insult to mediocrity because mediocrity doesnt want to /\ssiociate with nickelback either hahahahahaha

but i think ive pooped enough in OHs thread.
oooooops.

oh well fuck it hahahahahaha

Imma jump back up on the little bus and tryn score me some dank.

I really am sorry to hear that the forum cut ain't all that though...

Glad to hear that the choppers passed y'all by.

OH ..... It's looking good bro ... Howzit..... When I stayed out on the islands ..... Not sure why I left :( ........was my dream to grow some massive sativas ....... I'm sure you'll find some serious gold in all them seeds for the project ....... Does GH fly year round or do they focus on September-November when the big girls are out to play in the sun?

Ever thought of a hoop house w supplemental light for a few extra hrs to prevent flower .... Cover off during the day and let a couple indys get big ......you need to talk to grey and get topanga aka pure kush .... That will be pure night time power!

Grey .... Your description of GSC sounds identical to my boy rasputin's take on GSC ...... Gotta test her once for the hype ...never again as we have so many power house clones in house ......

Quick ? OH ..... how did the Valley OG turn out? How big? Yield? Taste? Potency? Just curious as I'll have her out in the greenhouse this summer

Thanks for the show bro .... I got my smart pot beanie filled w coco for a seat .... Couple Js ..... Just gotta swing thru an ABC for some KBC brews ...... Mmmmmmm

Looks to be a peaceful week comming down the pike. GH may or may not be doing their thing...elsewhere.

Another cold front approaching has killed off the tradewinds. The light South East winds are bringing all kinds of crap up from the volcano on the BI. That means dirty air and afternoon showers. This evening we had just enough rain to send the plants to bed wet....and not a drop more. Looks to be that way for the rest of the week.

Next project will be to fix that.

I need a roof. One that will stop the rain , but let all the light through. A couple of years back my partner and I took apart a commercial greenhouse. The fabric was trashed, but we have the frames stashed. Twenty foot wide....should be long enough to shelter the entire gulch.

Next years project.

Weez...you get more mileage per word of anyone on this thread...well done.

Chunky....Sorry...but Grey can be....what's a good word....hmmm....an asshole?...no. That doesn't work. In reality he is one of the most straight up people I have the good luck to know. He is passionate about his craft. He grows some of the best and he knows it. I have almost 20 years on him....and I don't know half of what he knows.

Grey... sorry...I gotta say this...the look in the mirror comment was kinda of unnecessary. Neither of us has walked in Chunky's shoes. He has not walked in ours. Everyone has and is entitled to an opinion...however right or wrong it may be. We should stick a joint of Skunkdog in his face....and let him tell us what he thinks. Don't confront....convert.

GEMiNi... GH flies once a month or so, starting in April and ending in November Since the law defines a "mature" plant as one with visable flowers, they will do the warrantless searchs late August. Most plants at that point have flowers but are too early to harvest...that's when they can do the most damage with the least work..

I am thinking of only a greenhouse roof. We have the frames...have to look into the fabric. What's the clearest you can buy?

The suplimental light would be trouble. Perched on the side of the hill, anyone living above me would be able to look out and see the glow. Someone will ask questions. One reason I can pull this off is nobody knows about my trip. It has to stay that way.

The Valley OG? It checks all the boxes except yield. Big gaps between flowers...and the plant has a minora like structure. Gonna keep it around, growing in pots. Inground though? No.

Persephone....Dude...I'm honored that you found this instalment. But as many have found out...it is never a good idea to feed me.
I am one of the luckiest bastards here....with thirty plus years of growing under my belt. Back in the good old days when it was nice and illegal.

These grows take a long time to wander to their conclusion. And depending on my mood...or weather I am correctly medicated.... I'll wander right along with them. Like a drunk...You never know where you will wind up at the end....all you can do is hope to find a safe place with a couple of bucks left in your pocket.

Of course, it means that I have to decide when to water, but that is offset by my smug smile during inconvenient rain squalls.:)

Aloha all,

Hi oldhaole. I hope you don't mind if I subscribe, but I just got my greenhouse up for this season. 10'x20', 6 mil plastic. Plastic isn't clear. I'll let you know how it works. The weather has been great this pass week on the east side of the BI Been pretty quiet in my neck of the woods, no birds here.

Peace, from the roots to the fruits and back out to the shoots~
