Regarding the bottom feed buckets....

Regarding the bottom feed buckets....

I built a system with drains on the bottom....used the controller in ogres thread (link above)....and bought one extra 2.5 gallon bucket per site. These buckets are the same diameter as the regular 2 gal buckets...just little taller to lift the bottom of the "outer" bucket off the ground so i put a drain fitting in the bottom of my "outer" bucket and put a tee fitting on it to connect the buckets together. these "outer" buckets sit in the 2.5 gallon buckets (which have 2 inch holes drilled on either side to allow the hose to pass) to stay upright and keep the drain off the floor.

does that make sense? I'm not sure how to post a picture...

Also, Sentinel makes a system with drains on the bottom, but the buckets weren't available when i needed to build mine..maybe they are now...called sentinel mef-1

Hydroton is a drag. I veg in 4 inch suretogrow cubes and insert into the buckets onto 2 pieces of 3" pvc cut to about 6 inches tall, cover with a lid with a 1.5" hole in it and just let the roots hang. seems to work pretty good watering every 2 hours.

Hey dude, you mind walking us through your grow?

Previous reports of Sure to Grow inserts were that they held to much water and caused root rot but these were the inserts designed for the buckets not 4inch cubes.

Can the community get some pics of your setup?

got to agree on the coco. Using coco & 5 gal smart pots as liners works great.
Hey! No response on the coco. But did drop a trainwreck in a number 2 smart pot in my ebb&gro. Just scooped out enough hydroton an set it in till I could get to her. Oh MY!! Breeder uses ebb&flo table with smart pots. Just sayin Hope im not repeatin..:thank you:

So, I was wondering...how often do you guys water in at the very start? I transplanted 10-12" clones in 6" net pots with hydroton into a 24 site, 2 gallon system. At first they seemed overwatered, droopy and soggy with mushy roots (watering 15 min. 4 times a day). So I cut it back to 1 time a day, and they appeared under watered. Ughhhh...

four times a day for 15 minutes is fine....seems like transplant shock in ebb n grows is a guarantee....mine always get funky for a week or so after then start to explode

Oh dang, a week, ok...it's been...not quite a week...Just kinda droopy. Not dying, just lacking turgor pressure. That sound normal?

I noticed this as well too, at first I thought it was transplant shock but then another member whos name slips my memory right now suggested that the week it takes them to bounce back is when the roots are readjusting to their new home.

Either way what youre experience is quite common.
