I really don't see the relevance of comparing thyme to cannabis.
I don't think the terpenoid profiles of other plants matter, just because they're higher than cannabis. What's the point here?

I don't smoke thyme, but I smoke cannabis all the thyme... ;)

Yes exactly. Pointless drivel.

Oh and big up to the op for trying to act high and mighty about a self admitted NON-CANNABIS SCIENTIST. Got any rosenary results we can hear about........:jerkit:

asking a 'food scientist' for their opinion on cannabis, is like asking a plumber for their advice on electrical..

I'm actually very interested in terpenoids and their effects.
It's not just about flavors as terpenoids are also insect repellents.

Since it has been suggested that terpenoids add to the effects of cannabinoids, it would be most interesting to learn of their medical effects as well as recreational effects, how they affect the "high".

I am not sure how or why people act so ignorant...

Food Scientists are Chemists, as any other profession.
My major was Organic Chemistry with a minor in Food and Pharameceutical microbiology.

I just provided the facts on a growers bud... I am not partial to anyone.

If you that Cannabis is the life blood of the world then keep at it... No one will change your mind...

I just report fact.... if you dont like my answers...move on... no need to mock.

Using the ASTA method for spice distilliation, i removed a 2 ml aliquot that I buffered with xylene. My GC reading during the initial test showed a result of:
18.99 % THC
0.98 CBD

Why are you not using a validated cannabinoid methodology? What is the source of your cannabinoid standards? I suspect you are misidentifying the CBD peak - if you post your protocol, gas, column, run/elution times etc we might be able to pinpoint your problems, or at least give you a heads up for a direction to look for your errors. A spice extraction protocol is not going to get you valid results for cannabis quantitative analysis... even qualitatively, your results are suspect. Do you have a headspace injector for the GC? Access to HPLC/UPLC?

There's a whole industry of cannabinoid and terpene testing, and most labs are experiencing the same problems... even some of the 'bigger' names in the industry are still having problematic results with both their validity and peak identification.... are you running CBC and CBG standards, calibration curves from mixes you've created yourself, or a pre-made multi-cannabinoid master mix? Please post a chromatogram of your calibration curves or composite standard runs. You might want to consider running a ring test against a lab that is working with a validated protocol...

Sounds like enough fancy talk to fool those who don't know enough to know better... I happen to work alongside 2 chemistry PhD's though who specialize in plant metabolomics and cannabinoid/terpene analysis, both worked in Big Pharma for years.... after reading your few posts colour me skeptical at this point... some of what you say is straight up nonsense. There's a whole world of cannabinoid/ terpene testing... you should open yourself up to what others have done, rather that heading up the wrong creek with the spice protocol...
