Marijuana Legalization Initiatives Move Forward in California

Two initiatives to legalize marijuana for adults have been approved for the 2010 California elections if enough signatures can be garned in time. Hopefully these two initiatives won't compete resulting in fewer signatures on each.

The initiative approved yesterday is being promoted by the "Gang of Four" Oakland dispensaries and Richard Lee. Each initiative requires at least 433,971 signatures of registered voters by Feb. 18 to qualify for the November ballot.

In California, neither the governor nor the legislature can veto a proposition that has been passed. Only a new vote can undo it or the courts could find it unconstitutional (unlikely).

The Feds would have to put the entire DEA task force in California to put a dent in the amount of production that will be going down once yall legalize it. The chance of the petitions not getting on the ballot is close to 0. Wasn't Prop215 made law with something like 60% of the vote? I highly doubt that even 20% of Cali's population would vote against it. Wish my state wasn't full of close minded old people

So long as you don't grow 100+ plants the feds are not likely to take an interest in what you do, esp. once legalization passes.

Then the LOCAL police have no justification for any action against their citizens who possess, grow, distribute or consume marijuana, unless they are under age.

as i see it, the fact that there are 2 bills that need 450k signatures each, along with the fact that everyone is arguing about which one is better may be the downfall of both of the bills..if the makers of both bills got together, agreed upon one bill, then equally promoted it then there would be more than enough signatures. just the way i see it..

because what we have isn't working. it's better than any other system, but outright legalization is the right thing to do.

even if it were legal you could grow an acre and still get rich unless you didn't want it legal for other reasons? maybe the children? i think both laws are for 21 and over.

A.K.A. THC 2010

So folks out in Cali make sure you vote for that one. The Oakland initiative A.K.A. ROT 2010 is super restrictive you don't want that shit, seriously. It's a slap in the face to all cannabis consumers and medical patients. You can only possess 1oz and grow in a 5x5 area, it doesn't clear the records of those with cannabis-related criminal offenses, it doesn't really mention anything about hemp, and all of its restrictions and taxes WILL apply to medical users and growers. No Bueno. So sign the petitions and vote for THC 2010 not ROT 2010.
