yeah it is true that weed is a derogatory term and i always try use the word cannabis, i much prefer that term to terms like marijuana. the word weed has stuck some how despite being biologically speaking incorrect.
but back to the fast growth, doesn't a weed need to grow fast to be a nuisance to man etc? seems to me we generally refer to weeds when the plants are growing where they are not wanted and when they keep regrowing and over growing the slower growing plants. also i have noted in this season of guerrilla growing that the cannabis plants do grow even faster them most surrounding weeds in nature. i chopped down nettles to make space for my cannabis plants and the cannabis plants beat the nettles growth wise. even though the nettle stumps already had a network of roots and my tinny cannabis plants were only just getting established when i put them out. i think you'll find there are not many plants that can grow such a mass as cannabis with such low amount of resources at such high speed. there are others of course, like bamboo. but even that isn't as tolerant of different climates and soils as cannabis can be.
