There is far more to this than it would first appear. Basically the entire Pacific Northwest, extending to the Dakotas and down into Northern California, has been bankrupted by the demise of the timber industry. With the exception of a handful of cities that have benefited from the tech boom or from having colleges located there, the entire region had it's financial foundation kicked away and nothing has replaced it. Guess who was largely responsible for that?
