How high up your list of priorities is money?

I want to retire before 40.

Other than that, money isnt that important. i just want enough to get by and get me the things that are important in life - shelter, food, women, entertainment and weed. And perhaps a car, even a dodgy old one I have to gut and rebuild..

top of the list
but not so important that I'd ever screw anybody
out of or compromise my principles over $$$$$'s.......

I absolutely hate money, I think there should be a salary cap at $250,000 a year. All these people playin sports makin 100 million in 5 years, with 4 houses and fuckin bently's, just throwin money away. If you cant live off of $250,000 a year, you are doin something wrong. just my :2cents:

I like money!
I've been in the position of not knowing if the next thing I buy will overdraw my account, scrounging quarters and dimes for gas money, etc., and I didn't like it one bit!
Busted ass at my job, started making some decent money, completely changed how I treated money, and now I'm starting to watch my savings account grow pretty quick, my checking account grows too, and i'm still able to pay all my bills and have money to go out and spend on "extras".
Took a lot of determination and hard work, but its paying off and I'm determined to keep working hard to reach complete financial freedom. Money is very important to me.
that was tough but a great lesson. for me money wasnt something you *saved*, it was something you *spent*. if i saved even half the money i pissed away ...

Not trying to start an arguement, but why is it that you don't think people should be able to make however much money they can?
I agree, the whole sports thing is a bit crazy, but its pretty simple to me when you think about it... these sports players wouldn't be getting all that money if the sports teams werent making so much money. People are willing and CHOOSE to pay 20, 30, 50, 100, 200, however many dollars for a ticket to watch their favorite teams play, noones FORCING anyone to spend that much money on sports tickets, they CHOOSE to spend the money THEY EARN on something that makes them happy... watching sports!
If so many people weren't willing to spend that sort of money to watch their sports teams, theres no way that any of the pro athletes would be making that much money.

Same with musicians. I paid right around 100 bucks for one ticket to see Roger Waters a few years ago. Waters is a very talented musician and performer, and enough people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to see him perform live, or buy his albums, etc., so why shouldn't he make the money he does? Obviously he worked hard and has a great talent, why should anyone tell him "you make too much money, so we're gonna limit it to 250,000 dollars"
Where would the rest of the money go?

I'm sorry, but I completly disagree with what your saying. I don't know what part of the world you are from, maybe things are different where you are which is fine, and again, i'm not bashing you or saying your wrong, but I strongly believe that if someone is able to make 10 million dollars a year HONESTLY, they should be able to take a new Ferrari out every day and throw it out the next day if thats what they want to do. (Not that I would ever want anyone to trash a Ferrari, but you get what I'm saying)

That being said, :kos: I pass this joint to you

and ya know what? You or I or Smokin Treez or any of us could be the ones rollin in the dough, all it takes is determination, hard work, a positive attitude, and a bit of luck! I started reading a book last night "The Big Idea" by Donny Deutsch, it talks about successful business people who started companies that are HUGE now, or invented products that millions of people use every day now... so many of these people were just regular every day people who came up with an idea and busted their ass to make something of it, and now are very successful and wealthy.
That sort of life certainly isn't for everyone, and theres nothing wrong with that at all, but I'm gonna work my ass off to try and become one of them!
I'm not ashamed to say I've got expensive taste (though currently I'm FAR from rich, but hey, I can dream about Lamborghini's and yachts and traveling the world in a private jet while I putt up the highway in my 800 dollar pickup, right?)

Money don't make you happy. And nobody can make you happy as happiness comes from within anyway....took me a long time to figure that out though.
I used to be caught up in top brand clothes and Manola Blahnik and Jimmy Choo shoes.

But some people stay victims to commercial brainwashing and think "things and money" make you happy. NOT!

Money doesn't make you happy. Look at all the million and billionares that are completely misurable. Because they spent their whole life trying to get it, and when they finially do, they realized that their not happy. I work in an occupation that I have to deal with alot of rich and wealthy people. Half the time their assholes that think they rule the world, but don't get me wrong there are some nice ones.

Money might not make you happy, but a thick stack of hundred dollar bills gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.....

You got it kiddo!!! I used to be tied up in worship of the dollar and my husband and I had a 6 figure income and I had the best.....NO WAY NOW I would pay $1500 for a designer purse just for status. I grew up poor and worked my ass off and educated myself and got on the fast track career wise. My children had the best also. But luckily I finally realized that all that material stuff was not making me happy. Happiness comes from within and no other person but yourself can make you happy. But having the basics of comfort does contribute to happiness. Now I am retired and disabled and live on disability and a pension and I have never been happier.

I wish I knew that 30 years ago. As you get older you really do get wiser...HAGO my fellow stoners of the world......my granny advice for the day and not pontificating to you.

So does taking a bong rip of Sour Diesel :)

Yes MJ definatly contributes to my personal happiness. my doc is alway tryng to push benzo's on me for an anxiety D/O (disorder)......but I have detoxed too many patients off of benzo's and I hate that drug....BUT IT IS LEGAL....and deadly and addictive and seizures can occur and kill you...that can't happen with weed and I never detoxed anybody off of weed or saw a death from it,,,,OOPS off subject....us females do that as our minds wonder...LOL.
Up on my soapbox for LEGALIZATION and it is my current passion to get it legalized or at least decriminalized,:dueling:

My life is constantly torn by this very concept. Living in the area that i do, one of the biggest US cities. I find it very hard to persue my goal of living a simple life with very material desires. More than anything i want money for cars. I love cars and that would be me ultimate weekness. Overall though i would much rather move to a small town which may happen in the near future. Just need to graduate from college...hopefully before next spring. I find that money complicates so many things. The way it is now i dont work too much and just get by. Right now im living at home so this is very possible. Once schools out this will no longer be the case. But the concept of living at home with the fam is an interesting one. Today everyone neeeds their own house. Years ago and still in many different cultures, having multiple generations and extended family in one house was common and practical. It is still very practical and efficient. i find that it is almost selfish to want a 4 bedroom house for 2 people. Thats what i grew up in. A big empty house. Then i think about all the homeless in the US and all over the world. Now my family is in the middle class and i think we have many luxeries. Now to the concept of the multimillionairs in the entertainment industry. The way they throw money away is absurd and once again there are too many people that need and could benifit from this. Is it fair that michael vick can throw away his money breeding dogs so he can abuse them and make them fight? i would be so happy with a warm place to sleep, a garden from my food and herbs and herb. I want to help provide for my neighbors. In my spare time i want to share the fruits of my labor and entertain myself around a fire with instruments, singing voice, and people dancing in full freedom. Everyday would be beautiful. I dont feel thats possible where i live now and my city really rubs off on me and my attitude...quite negative at times. Theres my rant. Thanks for the patience.

peace

money is only important to me because i can buy weed and shelter with it.sometimes food.... thats all i really need it for , other than that its just paper..

I understand these people work hard for thier money, but come on. I have seen my dad, and many of my familey members work thier asses off just to put food on the table, and make sure we have a roof over our heads, with very little if any extra. And then these people walk around with 4 houses and a pool a square acre, i just think that there should be a salary cap, maybe not at $250,000, maybe go to a million.
And there would be so much more money in the economy, and more people would be happy. Money does not make you happy, but seeing family not being depressed, and alowing people to live a better life, is happy.
Yes i agree i dont want to argue this is just personal opinion.

Sounds like Socialism to me and won't work in America where capitalism rules...But your parents were prolly happier than those millionaires and could look in the mirror with respect.. 4 houses don't always make you happy.
