decided i was going to risk an "old man cactus" in ground, pretty sure this is the type from the andes mountains as opposed to the mexican or peruvian old man cactus (which i have in pots)

nice rock placement.

I bet your garden as a whole is fucking epic.

I can't wait to do what you do man.

You should really make Seed with what you can.

Are Cacti diecious or monecious? sorry if spellings off.

If the flowers are perfect flowers, why not make seed?

just curious.

paint brushes are the best for spreading pollen :) no damage

more please, MORE!

short answer,it takes a long ass time to grow a cactus.
cactus flowers are typical in that they have male and female bits in each flower.
i suppose if i had a cactus house i might be more interested in breeding them, but for now i let the ripe fruits fall where they may and let nature take its course,if they re-seed into the yard thats fine,if some critter eats them, also good in my book.

yeah, the yard as a whole is something to see i think, especially now that a good bit of it is well established and thriving, most of the plants were in one gallon nursery pots when i got them and many of them are just huge now.i really have no idea how many plants are in the garden,i cant even remember what they all are anymore, theres gotta be close to 200 plants....an expensive hobby but it sure looks nice...

Yeah the leaf images on agave are super cool. Have you ever seen what happens when they get a deep cut down in the center before the leaves separate? They can have some really crazy patterns, though I've never seen one go "monstrose". I saw this with a bunch of blue agave I rescued from a garden re-design.

well you know, all this wasnt what you would call designed,it all happened in a more or less random fashion, and now its more like desert plant thunderdome, only the strong survive...theres some stuff its just amazing how fast they have grown...i have a four wing saltbrush that came in a 1 gallon nursery pot, maybe 6 inches tall when i got it,already 6-8 feet across and 6 feet tall....that needs some pruning back i think...and theres a globe mallow that must be almost as big...a couple of daleas that are covering about 20-30 sq ft of ground...its really starting to look "wild" now...
