Under the law a drug user is a drug user is a drug user...I guess I was referring to hard drug addicts who leach the system. Not responsible cannabis users.

A great point!and how long does those hard drugs stay in you system? a few days, so who you going to catch?

need a script?I saw a news article about Florida's prescription drug fraud. The relative examples weren't users. They were Medicare and Medicaid criminals, going to one doctor after the other and distributing piece-meal nationwide.
I've seen some addicts but they're typically doing petty crimes instead of organized fraud.
if you dont like it leave . i did . but if your on welfare you probably cant afford to. fuck florida
What a crock of shit. If a buddy smokes you out once a month out of kindness, you shouldn't be able to participate in the program? It's none of the government's fucking business, period.Good they should drug test people who are on government aid...You can't afford your basic necessities but you can spend your money on pot / drugs fuck that shit - you wanna play around support yourself. Like the rest of us HAVE to.
First off, all the info i know on this particular instance is from what ive read in this thread (although they have talked of testing recipients in my state too).
I see both sides on this broad issue...
Govt HANDOUTS should go to those who deserve it, not those sitting around getting hammered and loaded, claiming they are looking for employment (the state is paying you to LOOK for a job.)
However, I feel MJ is significantly less harmful than alcohol (a legal drug).
Also, drug tests are basically useless, unless administered within 3-4 days, for every drug EXCEPT MJ.
Add to this, the owners of the drug testing labs are owned by the families of the lawmakers pushing this legislation. (Which raises the obvious question 'is this all for profit?')

What does someone who stopped getting govt handouts do for income?
This is a major question, and i think the politicians think its as simple as "not buy drugs" with a smirk on their face.
True, they wont be buying drugs with GOVT money anymore, but they still need income. I doubt the former recipients decide, 'Hey ive got to get off drugs now'. Crime may go up.

I havent seen the numbers, but it would seem the program would save more money that it cost, specifically if they think its only 1.5-3 million (as i think someone mentioned).
If the avg unemployment payment is 20K/year; that would only be 50 people to catch per million dollars offset. If 10% of US citizens are smokers (and i think that figure is higher, i just pulled it outta my ass), they are gonna catch a bunch of burners...
So.. I am for a program like this that is administered by a non profit testing company, will not test for MJ, and has completely random tests. And by random, im not talking 'cycling, baseball or football random'. <-pipedream
But in its present form, fuck that shit.
FWIW im really against coke, heroin, and meth. I would chew coco leaves if i were in the Andes, but the shit they do to process it for export is basically insane; once its here, and cut again, fuck that, thats not what nature intended. Opiates are for old people to experiment with in their twilight years, and meth is probably dirtier than coke.

The common stereotype of people on welfare being useless drains on society is like all other stereotypes: It's just simply not true in many cases. And treating it like it is always true does a terrible disservice to everyone.
That attitude pisses me the fuck off. I had to spend a little time on welfare in my early twenties when life took an abrupt downward turn that was completely beyond my control, and I had kids to take care of. If it was just me, I could have lived under a fucking bridge or surfed a couch at a buddies while I picked myself up, but that wasn't an option with kids to care for.
That was almost twenty years ago. It helped me get back on my feet, get into a career, and go on to become a productive and well-respected member of society. I've gone on to achieve a pretty decent measure of success and raise some brilliant and high-achieving children because that program helped mitigate what could otherwise have become an unrecoverable disaster for my family.
The idea that so many people think that the program shouldn't have been available to me because I toked up a couple of times on the weekends for some much-needed relaxation (for free almost always thanks to some real great buddies) while studying my goddamned ass off for a career as a software developer (and working full-time at the time, just not pulling a big enough paycheck, thank you very much) just pisses me the fuck off. I don't care if it's because other people are leeches or not, that doesn't make it right to fuck over people who aren't taking advantage.
Want people to not spend the taxpayer's money on drugs? Have them keep receipts for every penny or something. Implement *some* kind of accountability. Address the *real* problem. Drug testing is bullshit, for any reason.
