I have a question, how does one give a new strain the name?
Does anyone have a formula for naming a new cross they have worked to the point of needing a distinctive name ?

just experimenting with some seed making. I agree with owl mirror that many use the word 'breed' too loosely.

I've wanted to post in here for the longest time, but decided to wait until I actually pollenated. Well they are all sexifed up!?!

I am sooo stoked about choosing my first male plant and keeping him to flower out. I collected pollen and plan to cross a couple more things but I'm limited on space so that will have to wait. He a stinky healthy lush New York City Diesel (SOMA SEEDS). I had three males but choice him for smell vigor and really just because I watched him with an especially close eye since germination. He was always the healthiest and leaves always pointed up ward even late very into flower.

Pollenated on August 28th so 4-6 weeks we'll see. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures at the time so sorry about that, but they will come later when I get my seed crop.

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO...I CROSSED......

- NYCD X GRAPE APE
- NYCD X RED DRAGON
- NYCD X BLUE DREAM
- NYCD X GOB9 (A LOCAL MYSTERY STRAIN THAT'S GORGEOUS)
- NYCD X NYCD (5 DIFFERENT FROM SAME SEED PACK POSSIBLE MOMS)

I gave some pollen to my buddy aswell and he did many of the same crosses aswell as crossing OG Kush and possibly Jack The Ripper, not sure on the ripper though.


4-6 weeks is about the correct time right? And any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Owl Mirror ,, some growers / breeders label plants by lineage,, some by number,, some with an exciting name. In horticulture you can only really name a cultivar once it performs as a true-breeding line - from seed (just like Skunk #1). In the cannabis world there is however no strict criteria on the labeling and naming of cultigens and no applicable copyright.

Don Dump. We use this analogy. If a person gets a pedigree dog and studs it to another pedigree dog to produce a litter of pedigree pups,, then they are at that point a breeder of dogs. Same goes for ganja we guess

Btw we we plan on making the dankest crosses again in 2010... year of the Tiger

Big project as I haven't done much breeding/pollen chucking. All the strains that I'm crossing to create f2's (C'99, Critical Mass, Killer Chemdog, Williams Wonder), these will be backcrossed a few times to get the genetics as close to the origional as possible.

If I have enough seeds out of all this I'll be sure to send in some to the 420 server fund & freebies.

Only the grape ape and blue dream were clones. And the grape ape was from a friend that's had it for 6-7 years strong. So basically only the Blue dream.

The red dragon was a single seed found in an excellent sample batch from the cannabis cup last year. I was expecting nothing and got one of the most gorgeous plants I've ever grown..check it...

The Gob 9 was a seedling from a backyard grown in the mendocino. It was an old man's strain that had been crossed over the years from airbourne pollen, so the backround is extremely unclear. I normally like to know exactly what I'm working with, but after watching her flower I had to hit her up with some pollen to capture at least a bit of it's genetics...

And all the NYCD's were from a pack directly from Soma's hands when I was visiting the dam. I got 7 females, gave two to a buddy and kept my favorite male to flower. He was a stinky health mofo, unfortunatly I got no pics after he want into isolation..anyways off to live life....

my seed project has been based around some auto strains this year. i germed 45 seeds of - zed's auto indica, two seperate batches of mixed autos, one from from the zedhead stable and one from ch@ppers', auto biddy early from ch@ppers and auto mtf from ch@ppers - into a large tub. i culled all the males as they came up, keeping one auto mtf male which has pollinated all the ladies. i'm expecting 75 000 000 seeds from this lot!!

the crosses i made last year are going great guns in the back yard. i've got:

lebanese cheese f2's, which are the original 'exodus' cheese cut pollinated by a lebanese 27. i have 4 of those out...
biddy's sister x lebanese cheese f1 x 1
sensi star x lebanese cheese f1 x 1

the SSxLC is far left, trained into the bushes, and the BSxLC is 3rd from the left, but it's difficult to make out!
