Cloning with Root Nubs or How to Root Hard to Clone Plants

D

Duplicate

Painted up some clonex on a branch yesterday. I was wondering if you could take rapid rooter and wrap it around the branch and have roots come out. I think I may try it after I see the nubs.

are you trying to make the process the most complex and difficult that you can?

this all seems a bit silly to me.

oh, as you can see, by the leaves in the pic, the branch suffered no ill effects, and actually grew those root sites while the mother plant was being sexed in bloom!

So even with the additional stress of having to show sex and going from 24/0 to 12/12, this plant still had time to develop root nubs on the branch :D

OK Slowandeasy and I painted up our branches on the same day.

You have heard about his results. Here is what I have had happen.

You can SEE for your self. This branch I decided instead of painting the whole branch, I would leave a green strip so you could see what was potentially happening UNDER the rooting hormone.

I see little white dots in the green stripe. Those are gonna turn into roots. Now if ya'll think big hairy roots are gonna grow from the branches, then NO, that ain't gonna happen. All you are gonna get are adventitious rooting sites. You are preparing the branch to be cloned.

Here's root nubs... dunno why slow's didn't work out, try again slow.
(looks like i gotta edit this one in)

I do not expect root hairs, but mine did not have "nubs" on the KY and powder mix. The Root Tech had "nubs", but burnt the leaves on the branch and actually the "nubs" looked like calluses...not white like yours. Not saying it does not work, but it did not work for me. Like the idea, but I get roots fast normally in Coco anyhow.

What kind of Powder do you use? Maybe it is the Green Light powder I used. I just bought some Clonex, so maybe I will try it on a couple of branches. It would be cool for some hard to clone plants...I will report the findings with Clonex.

Oh yeah, is that plant in your pic is the same one you did like 3 weeks ago?

i am using some old cheap Miracle Grow rooting powder from Walmart.

The original pic was a male Blueberry, who had to go, this recent pic was done the same day as you did yours S&E. It is a California Orange Bud x Sourbubble cross i made.

It was a tiny branch and I stuck her in bloom to sex her and she is still there.

p.s. I had a couple reps where people are confusing K Y Jelly and petroleum jelly. Please don't put petroleum products on plants. yuck. KY Jelly was picked cuz it is edible and water soluble :D

For what it is worth, I clipped one of the bumpy Root Tech branches and stuck it in Coco. It now has roots, but the top got burnt from the Gel. I pulled it out of the Coco to see and there are a bunch of small roots starting. So it worked on the Root Tech, but the Root Tech is too strong. I bought some Clonex, which is not as strong. I will try it on a couple of branches just to experiment. Would be a good method to ensure you can clone a "hard to clone" plant. I will paint a few branches tonight and see how they look in a week.

Oh yeah, I know the difference between KY and Vaseline!!

lol. I didn't mean you Slow and Easy... like i said I have received some Rep messages saying things like... "I didn't have any petroleum jelly like you said, so I used....".

I just wanted to clarify that KY jelly and petroleum jelly ain't the same thing for those people.

Perhaps English is not their first language who knows?

I found your thread. There is a lot good info here.

BUT!
I live in a lil tiny burg with 1 store that doesn't sell cloning gel.
I have to cut some clones in about a week so I went and bought a tube of KY.

Of course as soon as I got to the counter half a dozen women lined up behind me. Now it was just a lil bit embarrassing buying KY. But that was nothing compared to the fact that one of my old flames was working the cash register...
Okay I dealt with that too but what she set it up on top of the register and asked somebody to go check the price?

Come on! That was deliberate and then she just HAD to inform me that they had the Cool/hot KY on special this week.

I'm gonna have to wait until I go to Spokane... :wallbash:

:dance013:

:bump:

can we make this happen.

Sorry to be all geeked out all over this thread.

You aren't alone buddy.

i sloshed some on a plant that had been flowering that i didn't want to lose...then i spaced it out when i didn't see nubs forming in seven days...any case they went about 2 weeks and this is the stalk:

and:
i cut this today...to hopefully see roots actually sprout in the next 7.
(a previous cut from the same plant has sprouted roots this morning, but it was cut off the plant after 7 and put into the cloner a week ago)

I've heard of peeps cutting into the 2nd week of bloom, but this one is been blooming at least a month before putting her on a longer light schedule to reveg. I would not have thought it possible. if these cuttings show roots i will def be a convert.

If I thought it would help grow roots faster, I'd put these bitches in cuffs and leather harnesses with some kinky-ass porno on the telly, but your method is slightly less kinky! :)

thanks Lola, spreadin the word!

How about splitting a Root Riot cube, filling it with gel and tying it around the branch? When the roots grow out of the cube you just cut the branch below the cube and put the clone directly into the medium.

You know that old song 'Lola', right *Lola*?
