Caboose (Trainwreck x BigBud)

This year I liked the 1 gal to 5 gal transition. I was able to gauge some really interesting characteristics of the Caboose plants I popped.
Seeing their root masses on a bigger scale was a real big help. Previously I was doing quart/half gal/gallon/5 gallon 80 gallon

Had 8 different caboose genetics in front of me, the foliage and size on all 8 plants are damn near identical, minus CAB#8 which was a runt.

CAB #'s 1/3/4/5/7 vigorously filled up those 1 gal pots with roots from end to end like the photo I posted at the start of this year.
Extremely vigorous root growth on these specific plants.

CAB#2 and CAB#6 where the same size foliage as the rest but their root masses where half the size, not nearly fully encapsulating their 1 gallon pots, unlike their sisters.
Yet their leaves and stocks and overall health was just as good as the vigorous plants.

Cab#8 the runt of the group had barley occupied 20% of the 1 gallon pot. It was also about 30% smaller than the other 7 plants as they continued to veg.

I've really noticed that kind of "slacker" trait from CAB#2 and #6. Their root masses where about half the size of the others, but they where just as prolific.

Also CAB#6 smells like a sweet fruit smell, and CAB#2 smells like a pine tree. The only two phenos of the batch with DISTINCT smells.
The rest all smell like a mineral earthy kinda anise smell.

Wish I took more pictures in each of the transplanting phases so I could show the representations better.

Going to upload some more pics tomorow, all of the ladies will have their skirts trimmed up tomorrow too.

The more I trim these ladies up the bigger they get X.x
Ignore the flowering branches you see to the bottom right, Those are my Cream ladies who are 2 or so weeks ahead of the Caboose
And ignore the taller plants you see in the back, also cream ^_^

Now that I am trimming up the ladies skirts I'm noticing the structural differences between some of them.

For instance: CAB#7 got trimmed first and she has this wide short fat spaceship looking structure. Example below lol

Cab#3 I think is the most impressive of all the phenotypes when it comes to structure/branches/nodes/height/spacing
She is a little bigger than everyone else, and her inner growth is not nearly as much of a jungle like her sisters.

I will get some pics of CAB#3 when i clean the rest of her skirt tomorrow!

All of the caboose girls are finally cleaned up.

I also went around and stacked rocks over all of the top soil. Theres a couple reason why I do this:
SiyyraN.jpg

Firstly: It traps humidity and keeps my soil damp for longer.
The sun has been stealing water out of my pots before the girls had a chance to drink it.
And Secondly: Fungus eats rocks ^_^
I supplement mycho to my plants in both feedings and sprays on the top soil!
Paul Staments says that different types of fungus will break down rocks and use the minerals in them.
And Zepp Holzer claims the rocks he uses in his farming methods help with water retention!

After many many hours of listening and watching to both Zepp and Paul.... I've added some of their methods to my garden and have been reaping the rewards!

Here is the first budding flowers of CAB #6, she has the biggest budding sites so far!

After a week of the rocks being there I decided to lift one up and take a look
roots have started to come up to the surface and nestle themselves up against the rocks.

They have promoted new root growth!

Here is the odd ball/stuned/small Caboose
Cab#7

She is the second caboose plant that looks like train wreck. The other plants are much more indica dominate

Nice plants man!! Sittin' over here all mad jelly and shit. I like GHS and their off-shoot strain Hunters. I found some nice plants in their White Lemon, and FlowerBomb Kush. By the looks of it there's so,e nice plants to be found in those Caboose seeds.

Thanks for droppin in!
Word.... The India episode made me long for a lot more in my life if you know what I mean....
That dude living on the side of that mountain...
Stoic as fuck
White Lemon And Flowerbomb Kush? I'll have to take a look into them, I'm looking to add some more goodies to my plot. Especially girls that are easy to trim and have a beautiful aroma.

Indeed the Caboose genetics so far are pretty impressive
One more strain from GHS that is proving to be exceptional
If you have high wind problems these caboose plants take it like no other.
I consistently get 20-30 mph gust winds
I wont have to internally/externally cage them like I do my other strains

Next year when i have 7-8ft tall caboose plants I will really see how they hold up to the high winds i get.

so far so good , nice thread, keep it up !

Thanks shawk, appreciate you stopping by and passing on some good words!

I just snapped a few macro shots while on a quick walk through
Having to tie up branches and apply silica to them.
Squirrels seem to enjoy playing on the lower branches after i cleaned them up so neatly...
Got some treats for everyone =p
Some cool pheno's peaking through

It has the incredibly white pistils and some light orange tips coming in now

The pistils on this one are also a light orange
but there is a bit more purple to the leaf tips

And last but most certainly not least =p
This beautiful lady showing all kinds of purple

beautiful...did you post your mix?
Thanks man, appreciate the kind words!
soil mix?
I buy soil locally from different nurseries and landscaping places.
I buy 2-3 yards every year and mix it into whatever the good stuff is left

The soil is always hot enough to last me right until transition.

ahh ok...

Yeah next year I'm going to build an organic soil and let the microbial and bacterial forces do their thing.
Throw a EWC/Guano tea on them when they get hungry and call it good.
Sick of forcing salts onto my plants. Is way to expensive x.x

I'm going to run some of my caboose clones in 5 gal smart pots indoor with some super soil mixes this winter.
See if I can feed a plant with the microbe/bacterial action alone.
Then scale everything up for my 80 gal pots.

Update:
All 8 plants Incoming!

Caboose Seed #7
This is the caboose plant that most resembles the Greenhouse Trainwreck I grew in the past. Incredibly sweet and fruity smelling.
The structure also reminds me of the GHS TW. Very similar growth

Caboose Seed #6
This plant I believe holds the biggest traits from SCBB. It still has a long way to go too....
She smells like a really sweet rose....
Roses have a funk to them but this has a sweet enticing honey thing to it that i love

Very cool thread SB. I am a huge fan of both genetics involved in the Caboose and trust that if you got them from Tom they are the real deal. Never could understand some Danish Canadian company making seeds and calling them Trainwreck. A lot of people know the real deal Trainwreck from Arcata and Tom is one of them. The plant has been around a long long time. Big bud has been around a long time as a matter of fact. Big bud that I grew had huge bud and pretty good weed. Trainwreck is some of my favorite smoke and I always look for it when I am in Humboldt. Problem is, it is not know to be a money maker. Longer flowering, higher maintenance and lower yield Not a good combination for someone in the business. I am glad you show-cased your's and know I would pick some up if the opportunity presented itself.

Caboose Seed #3
She has a really short fat and wide christmas tree looking body to her
Space ship kinda shaped is how I described it earlier in this thread I think.
She also has some beautiful purple tips coming in, and her pistils are not so long but her calyxs are really big
Cool pheno type considering the rest of the caboose girls have long pistils!
The bud formation is not really HUGE like Cab#6 is but she has plenty of nugs!

M0oIkJa.jpg

Caboose Seed #4
This lady has the largest stock/branches/plant size
She was not nearly as bushy as the other girls, not nearly as much inner growth.
But she made up for it in stock size and length. She does not have any soda can sized buds either
She has a pineapple mango aroma that is to DIE FOR, maybe a guava flavor
She is a good candidate for a 8-10foot tall plant next year

To be honest I've actually been very inquisitive about getting a hold of the original Big Bud strain. I've sent some very enthusiastic and heartfelt messages to a few people, including Tom.
I have a female that I would love to mix with Big Bud, I think it would create something wonderful....
and I would dedicate so much time and love into perfecting that lineage.... man .....

I've never personally grown the original TrainWreck clone but I have smoked quite a bit of it.
The Trainwreck seeds that come from GHS are not the same thing, but they do produce very psychoactive sativas.... Very phychoactive...
especially if you get a Cat Piss smelling flower, that pheno is insane.....

I think I stated at the start of this thread that I have no clue if GHS has the actual salmon creek genetics or not.

Purchasing the seeds was a random roll of the dice just in case!
I really wish the seeds I got where from Tom himself.....

Oh I see, my mistake. English is my second language and I often miss subtleties in the written and spoken word. Thanks for the clarification.

I am sure GHS are okay. Most people just think Arjan is an ego maniac. He has lived a fairly charmed life, but I am sure it was no walk in the park in the beginning. I seen and enjoyed his Strainhunter videos and know he takes chances. I seen him go to some places in my country (Colombia) that I most certainly wouldn't go.

Caboose Seed #5
This plant has been through hell and back the one in the center is cab#5
J4D4Hkb.jpg

Its top cola has been chipped away at by squirrels, Branches have been broken by them.
And they keep tracking dust everywhere the little fuckers climb
Thankfully this is the ONLY plant that the squirrel seems to want to fuck around on and eat....
I feel like Ricky from trailer park boys right about now....
wdZnUW4.jpg

Due to their nibbling the colas split into 3 main arms now instead of 1 big one, and the top nugs always have a fresh coating of dust on them every morning x.x

Caboose Seed #1
CAB#1 is another shorter plant, has really big leaves and nice buds but no soda can sized buds
Another really sweet smelling plant but more mineral and less fruit nothing to special about her though, not a real good candidate to save for next year. Not for what I want anyways

Caboose Seed #2
This lady is not as big as Cab#6 but she also has a soda can sized bud
I can not get my hand around her bud all the way and I got monster hands.
She has a really fruity and sweet smell much like the others, more of a mixed berry kind of smell, and less pineapple mango.

Caboose Seed #8
This lady is damn near a clone of Caboose #4 but she is about 2-3 inches shorter
She is really tall and lanky, unlike the rest of the short pudgy bunch
She also has the smallest buds but something tells me they will be potent :3
