Nice! Good idea using so much lime! Going to be some acidity to deal with.. Definately check on them to make sure they're getting the water they need....

Can't wait to see the growth explode... :headbange

I'd say use a bit less on some of them to determine what works best.. 4 cups should be plenty and may be way too much... I don't grow in those conditions though... 1-2 cups sounds closer to me... I use a small single handfull... Probably a quarter to a half cup at the most for natural clay soil holes 2-2.5 ft diameter is what I do...

Holy Crap...Still2big I remember talking to you awhile back about your grow back before you started. Man I gotta hand it to ya, I thought this guy doesn't know how much work he's in for, but you did it. You are one dedicated SOB! I'm pretty impressed that you are accomplishing such an combersome undertaking as this. I'm curious as to the cost of so many grow supplies if you don't mind my asking? And do you do all the work yourself? As I scanned through your pics I couldn't help but notice one thing. Does it get hot in your area? Containers can get hot and one good way to keep em cool is to partially bury them. I'm guessing that probably wouldn't work well in a wet spot because they would take on too much water and not enough air. Just my .02. I'm anxious to see how things go for you. Good luck:D

Hey bro, yeah I remember talking to you back during the planing stages of all this. I was hoping you would find this. As far as cost 20 of those bags was like $150 so once the other 10 go out that will be $300. The trashcans, had I got them all at walmart would have been $10 each. I ended up having to buy some from Lowes and those were $12 each. Other than that just the TR ferts and the lime. I should be able to get out of the season with a $700 investment or under.

I do all the work myself too. As far as the container heat goes. I was worried about that too. Couple weeks ago the temps where in the high 80s, sunny as hell so i went out and checked the one 32 i already had out there. The outside was hot to the touch from the sun. I only had to dig down about 6inches and it was nice, very cool soil.

Im sure ill learn a whole lot this year so keep an eye on this one man...

I definitely share your "Cowboy Up!" attitude, lol. I have too many low hanging tree/bush branches on the trail to carry more than one bag myself but I fill a backpack with a lil over half a bag too. My 'burg is more dense so I put em in "holes" cut into the surrounding vegetation.
Try a couple ropes to the handles to keep em from getting blown/knocked over. Anchor to stakes or trees. Have you tested your water? Peace and good growin'!!

Im hoping having the bottoms wet all the time come the rainy/windy season will be enough. We will see. There isnt any water to test yet but soon enough...

Well the babies, half anyway, are in their new home. Leaving for the next 5 days which sucks ass. Looks like they should get at least 8hrs of direct sunlight per day. Pics when i get back

In my humble opinion i think 32 gallons of soil is an overkill. You simply dont need that much soil i promise. Secondly since your not burrying your containers the roots will dry out super fast this summer. No way u will be able to keep up with the waterings. Black garbage cans in the hot sun all day will do nothing but bad for your roots and moisture level. Good luck.

and so you dont have to read the whole thread for your design

1. wont have to water at all this summer.
2. there will be around 1 foot of water where the pots are now.
3. in 32gallons at around 88 outside the soil stays pretty cool.

dude theres nothing wrong with giving your plants all the room they could ever use!!! im sure he could have done them in 5 gal buckets if he wanted to ive seen it done with great results. with the size container hes using, theres slim chence they will ever become root bound and with the cubic feet of soil, it will stay plenty cool inside unlike a 5 gal that needs to be watered at least once a week. these 32 gal girls will be monsters with huge root systems, and that means very large plants. your doing a great job, and im honestly jeolus i dont have a spot i can hide trash barrels or thats all i would grow in. -bluebuds
