Gopher cages are 3 ft tall about 2.5 - 3ft diameter.with a bottom. They will be in ground about 24 inches . With approximately 10"-12 hardware clothe above the soil. Will act as a small above ground .micro fence for small critters

All the leg work in the beginning will pay huge dividends at the end.

Looks like we have some new neighbors! A couple mom turkeys and a bunch of chicks cruising through my area this morning...should help keep the tick population under control here. Marley my rotweiler would be stoked if he understood.

Ps . Another good tick preventative is guinia hens. If considering a permaculture type environment , guinia hens are insectivors, eats lots and lots of bugs from ground. Mostly ticks is favorable diet.

The turkeys are nice, but I don't see any heavy machinery to move all that soil?

I heard Pea Fowl were also really good for taking care of bugs...I do it by spraying beneficial nematodes all over my farm...It works hella good for me. I get them from ARBICO Organics

Please tell me you're not doing it with a shovel and wheel barrow!!

If you look close behind the tree is a bobcat/ skid steer parked. All holes filled now, some reaching the 10 ft diameter mark. I feel like we have some extra dirt as the dirt delivery trucks were all over flowing. Which is good cuz delivery cost were very high.. Bigger the root bigger the fruit!

Deisle power is good. As we started off simple, filling our pockets and socks with dirt and then bringing to each hole. I have 8 feet between mounds. Room for atv or bobcat. planning is key. filling the hole by hand I figured it would take awhile, so I decided to rent a bobcat

With a bobcat still took 2 1/2 days. Logged about 20hrs on bobcat. I have a rash on my ass from sliding around on the seat for three days. Was 4-5 trips per a hole, Is over 240 trips with heaping scoops of dirt. I don't wish work like this upon anyone. Although I am an expert bobcat operator now.

LoL you sound like a funny guy...I know what it is to set up a garden like this!

At my farm we have over 5 yards per plant!

I built it up over a few years...the first I poured worm soil factory compost, promoss, perlite, lava rock, and earthworm mix , the second year we put down NorCal blend I had some custom stuff done to...this year we added about yard to each...

If I added any more soil, my gardens would just be one big mound again and I'd be in the ground again!

Looking forward to watching your updates...

Fantastic job so far CJ123! Casey's at the bat!
Looking forward to see a picture perfect grow this year.
Those plants are gonna love you.

This year I got a great partner and he is doing all the bullwork. Im hurt so I cant lug anything with weight to it.
Im just a sideline coach and funding the whole thing, so I get the managers seat while he gets to do the hard stuff.
He carried about 800glns of dirt about a 1/4 mile away. Back and forth, back and forth, with 10gln bag on each shoulder.
All walking through the forest.
He did all the digging, and mixing of used and new soil, and everything in the hot open sun for 10 hours yesterday.
What a guy! :trampoline:

Got some evolving plans, as i wake up each morning more inspired ...... since my full season plot is spaced in perfect rows along the hill, I will be taking at note from humblot locals setup. As it is very admirable. I will be running hoophiuses over each row. Will do similar trellis style also, w/ hortanova. I will be able plant small plants in big holes, early April planting. allowing for unrestricted root growth, and a early start. Shuting supplimental light off around june, with 4-5 ft plants by late may. All 6 rows will also have supplimetal lighting. Still trying to figure how I can heat these 6 hoop rows efficiently .? This all started when I realized all the befits of starting as season off in a greenhouse, I wanted my whole hillside
Covered in a greenhouse. Think about the movie biodome, w/ pauly shore. I also am seeing I could setup something tall enough to cover full grown giants. 15 ft ceiling.. Maybe I should stop dreaming.
