I have been thinking this as well, and mentioned it earlier. I figure that I should post this again, and keep this thread on track.
Other members have talked to me about it being genetic, sourdub has had a history of dud's and GG4 does have sour dub in it.
Sam said that a cause of duds (whichever it may be) could be passed through the seeds.
If this dud issue is truly like herpes, just because it isnt showing, doesnt mean ya dont have it.
Please refrain from bashing and shit talking on this thread, I started this thread as an effort to educate other growers, and with some collective thought hopefully come to a conclusion on how to rid yourself of the problem. As of right now, it seems that trashing plants in question is the start.
I think that the essential oils should not be overlooked. Many essential oils such as tea tree oil have been shown to have antibiotic and antiviral properties. I know that in the bm thread some mentioned success with essential oils years ago, and the folks who are recommending it today, were the very non believers of yesteryear. That says something to me. Concentrates are essential oils, and we all know how powerful they are as many us have seen its effect on cancer.
The mag is an incredible source of info, I have watched several growers here up there game in a seemingly short amount of time
from what they have learned here. I learned about Root Aphids and bms, right here. It helped me save my garden. Hopefully this thread helps you get rid of dud's or stop them in the first place.
I have some non dud'd gg4 now (thank you!) and will be growing them out and documenting them.
I am going to get some rosemary and cinnamon oil today start mixing them at 1ml a gal (mixing ratios subject to change based on results and research), and begin a bi weekly spray indefinitely. At some point I will get the esscent spray from AEA that backyard mentioned.
For general gardening cleanliness I also am getting painters suits and sweatpants and a shirt, 1 set for each of my rooms and some gloves and alchohol in a spray bottle or squirt bottle. Every time you touch something, you spray your gloves before touching something else. Some people prefer to squirt rather than spray because of all the air born mist that you inevitably inhale.
I have talked to my landlord about installing a shower and washing machine and dryer and they have no problem as long as I remove it before leaving.
Heat treatments are a wonderful way to clean your room and equipment between rounds.
Everyone take a few puffs or a dabs or "hits from the bong"

I'm still highly speculative of this phenomena. Until I see some legitimate science backing it or experience it first hand, I will remain that way. All of the clone drama only reinforces why I never use them or anything I haven't popped myself. Best of luck to any of you having issues. I hope you get them squared away.
you may want to reconsider your proposed formula as more than a few people are allergic to cinnamon. it would probably be worse for them to inhale cinnamon oil than many of those feared chemical miticides...

No its not - the sour dubb has been having it/passing it since 2008.
Its been over 5 years now.
its just starting to come out of the shadows.
it just seems some glue cuts that got passed around at the cup that came out of a clean room from supposedly clean mother stock started showing everyone the big surprise

before everybody jumps on the "it passes through to seeds" dooms day train i think its worth mentioning one thing. no offense to those involved as its just an observation. while yes the gg4 and the sourdub both had it and yes sour dub is the parent plant. these cuts were also passed around rather exclusively in the same group of friends, so by progeny is not the only relation these plants have to each other. not pointing fingers in any specific direction and i think the original symptoms were no more anyones fault than any other. plant pathology happens and the person whos it was at the moment its discovered is not a villain, rather just a hapless victim of same scourge anyone who subsequently received it (and probably also passed)has.

the sourdubb was leaked to a few different clone dealers in socal, as well as spread across ic even though it was asked to remain tight when it was gifted. it was meant to be a tight circle plant. others saw to it differently. hahahaha

broad mites happen to arrive in your grow, they infest your grow. you might take the steps to get rid of them, with avid, forbid, heat treatment and whatever else. you should be able to irradicate them eventually. how ever you will find that those plants fed on by the bms are carrying something with them. cuts of cuts of cuts later, and they seem to still harbour this ''illness''. when you flower them, they have very little smell anymore, not much resin, and effectively you end up harvesting shwag. all you can do is chuck them all away and start again. that's the real issue people are facing and these plants are duds.. the mites are precursors to the dudding.

hmm do you mean bms or duds? theres been threads about duds way before the gg4 issue.
I never noticed/read any dud threads been here a long time. But like I said I live a shelter life so WTF do I know..
