The Search for Trip Weed

Greetings,

Those peeps in Australia sure do grow some interesting genetics. I'm looking forward to seeing posts from Infinitesimal when ready to share.

I'm up very early due to insomnia, so I thought I would document some aromas coming from my two little seedlings. The GN x NHz x Mullum has the cat piss with a twist of lime aroma when breathing in slowly at the top of the plant. When I rub a leaf petiole, I simply get a sweet lemon smell. The Oaxacan has an earthy/spicy smell when taking a whiff at the top meristem. When a petiole is rubbed, it is metallic/spicy. I like what I'm smelling from both. My current best cutting that has been tested, SAGE x Purple Haze Meao Thai, has that cat piss with a lime twist aroma. My favorite weed taste is spicy. The last time I smelled that metallic/spicy aroma, it was from a plant that gave me exactly what I'm chasing in the high, the Oaxacan/Thai leaning Neville's Haze that I have such fond memories of. I'm really feeling good about that Oaxacan! I'm so fortunate to have genetics from both of these lines.

I've been smoking some Oaxacan Trance x Mullum Madness and it's been lovely to have that cedar and mint funk on my palate again. I'm also looking forward to learning about the Copalita..here's the Laos border Thai you were asking about..

Hi Bushweed,

Thanks for posting those pictures. That Thai Mullum Haze looks so close, and sounds so good smelling. How much longer do you think it needs?

The Laos Border Thai looks good enough to eat. That has to be my favorite color in the world. I feel high just looking at it. It does not look much different from the last time you posted, as far as filling in. Perhaps just looking a bit more ripe. This strain is very intriguing to me. Can't wait to hear how it smokes.

Your grows are inspirational, and your Thai collection is world class.

hi TB, That Thai Mullum Haze and another one has 5 weeks or so to go, the one below is maybe two weeks off...

Here's a shot of the largest Thai Mullum Haze that shows off some of the shapeliness of the cross, it probably has 8 weeks left weather permitting...

Be interesting to see how it goes for you. Might be a rare one to leave late. The Laos border Thai shots are old ones. It's been raining for about a week, so my garden trips are exercises in shaking the water off trees. She is nonetheless a slow grower like the GN Thai mother of the plants above. I hope to take some shots when the sun comes out. No mold in anything so far, but a Malawi has gone completely limp - doesn't have the strong Thai structure that can hang through a wet season. The Mullum Thai is coming out on top of the Malawi and Colombian at the moment with overripe fruit notes and an ultra clear positive vibe. In six months I'lll know the truth of it....

What are you smoking amigo?

Hi infinitesimal, it came from a friend of wallyduck who lives in Thailand. FWIW, it's very similar in smell and structure to the GN Thai. Reports are that it has a scary strong high when grown in Thailand. It's a little slow flowering for my liking, but the ultra sweet musk aroma is filling me with expectation..

Bushweed,

Thanks for the pictures, evaluations, and guidance that is inherent in your comments and pictures.

This picture makes this bud look like the pistils are all played out already:

But perhaps it is still missing the lumpiness that ripe buds seem to get as the calyxes swell. I'd be interesting to hear what you are looking for to judge it as ripe. I know this sounds like a "newbie" question, but I think each strain or type is a bit different. I hope you don't mind such a question that gets re-hashed all the time.

I love the sound of the description as "scary strong high". Looks and sounds promising.

Hi TB,

I'm like you I guess I prefer them slightly less done than what a lot of growers recommend. But I believe there is a perfect time to cut. sometimes in my environment though, it's dictated by rain. Generally I rock up and I'm looking for a reddish sheen to the buds, and they look like they'll start dying off shortly then I cut them. I also keep an eye on the moon chart. I prefer to cut in the last quarter of a waning moon in a favorable sign. The red sheen is what I mainly look for though.
Any other tricks? Well I don't drag my magnifying glass into the jungle...

I want to tell my genesis in the search...

I'm not of the old school, so my opinion was generally that cannabis has only gotten better and better over the years since the days of the imported land races... and that, what me and my friends smoked or got from dispensaries was among the best cannabis available. typically indica dominant hybrids because their commercial value with the fast flowering times and large yields... so for a long time, after my tolerance developed and matured, smoking was almost like nothing just the same comfortable buzz every time... with the rare Sativa hybrids thrown in but the only real noticeable difference was the active chattiness from a more Sativa strain (SSH, Catpiss etc. etc.).

that was until I bought and grew my own sativa, and found out that cannabis could spawn types of highs that are radically various. I bought the first release of GHS Alaskan Ice (white widow x [nevilles haze x cambodian/Laos hybrid]) (fuck GHS, but this strain was good). there were some good Sativas in there even a super long flowering Wild pheno some heavy yielding fast flowering haze phenos and then the one Im talking about... it stayed relatively small, didn't stretch much and through week 4-7 smelled just like Trainwreck (which leads me to believe that, since I also found an indica purple kush pheno, that GHS didn't control their female pollen very well)... anyways in the end of the grow it was frosty as all hell smelled like sweet bergamot with some forrest floor must and with a strange metallic factory like smell and a taste of very fine kief... you could watch the trichs bubble as the flame approached.

the high was instant, each hit provided a near black out "head rush" regardless of method of consumption... it caused a few people to fully pass out from a bong hit and not fall asleep, fall down and crash! the first time I smoked it was at night, big mistake 2 hits and I was up for another 3-4 hours as thought after thought raced through my head fighting for position around turn #1... definitely stimulant weed, but mentally no body to the high what so ever.

typically I saved it for a day of wandering around the house back and forth trying to figure what I was doing and ended up never getting anything done... I don't even think there ever was actually anything I needed to do in the first place, lol. the trippiest part is the thought patterns it was like one thought after another after another before I was even consciously aware of the first and by that time there was no chance to contemplate it because it was already jammed out of the way like there was some kind of voltage to it and the pressure of the next thought was pushing the prior, accelerating to the point where thought almost stops or at least becomes irrelevant because you can't pay any attention or you just give into the thoughts and sort of jabber to yourself in your head... very stimulant weed, atypical for me... and something I don't think many people really experience often if ever.

one time I was online and I found MENSA hosting an online pretest to determine whether or not one is ready to take the necessary tests to join... so I figured hey I haven't been in school (at the time) in about 6-7 years lets get super high and take this IQ test... fucking weird test, unlike anything I have ever taken before... so I start the test and pack some bowls in the bong and start ripping... after the third hit I packed another bowl... and forget to hit it again... so many weird shape and pattern recognition type problems... I finished the test somehow and scored 120, lol... I was so high I retook the test again and scored 117. If someone wasnt a regular smoker with a good tolerance I could totally imagine them having full on hallucinations with this type of cannabis... I could smoke a fatty joint or blunt to my face of most weeds but never took more than three hits of that stuff, I was always already to high.

no I wish... man I wish, that's why I am on the search. but honestly I figure I can breed a better strain, it just may take a while...

I'm going to be working with a decent amount of Chimeras highland Guerrero x BlueBerry which certain females are supposed to provide a nice pleasant happy trip... and several other Sativa dominant hybrids and pure Sativas to recreate something like that or better.

check out Chimera's mental floss its well reported to have a similar Up effect... Unclefishstick has a thread, "mental floss almost lost" I think is the name

^^ cool. my 2011 golden tiger did similar things for me except the 120 iq test results :) .

after the 2011 gt i became a landrace enthusiast. also, i'm an od grower and the gt was awesome in hardiness, yield as well as potency and high effects. i now suspect that i got an elusive combination of the frosty mum malawi with a strong meao thai influence. mt is rather recessive in hybrids from my experience and reading posts. the frosty malawi mum is in the malawi genetics but you have to isolate her. there are other malawi phenos not just limited to the purple and the fast malawi.

i solved a lot of problems nagging me on gt. i didn't even consciously know i had some of these problems gnawing at me :). gt elevated my caliber of consciousness. my neck felt like it had two extra vertebrae in it the way my head felt like it was bobbing around. duration of high was well past 3 hours and no tolerance build up to this day and i smoke quite of bit of gt. gt has zero adam style bag appeal but it is still an enormous hit with everyone who smokes her.

dubi has called kaiki's mt the best domesticated thai he has witnessed and the frosty malawi mum scored so high on active cannaboid content fairly recently that only two samples of first grade hash came close.

heck yeah, there definitely is a spiritual/consciousness aspect to really good cannabis especially good sativas... I too sort of learned that out of happenstance... it funny how if we are receptive enough often solutions to our problems find us even if we were unaware we had any problems in the first place... its happened in my life quite a bit... other times things that seemed bad turned out ok in the long run and actually ended up serving a purpose.

I had some GT I tried putting them outdoor in the winter to see if they would auto flower and survive they auto flowered but didn't survive the cold wet climate.

but malawi and Zamaldelica are two that are still left on my list of strains to acquire. I have lots of gear based on land races, eventually these rehybridizations will stop and the only way to bring anything new and good to the table will be through these strains. IMO

'dubi has called kaiki's mt the best domesticated thai he has witnessed' What is mt?

Thinking about GN Thai from what I have read so far.

Anyone run ACE Thai Stick yet?

MT = Meao Thai - Cannabiogen's special Thai. GN Thai and dubi's Thai stick are the same thing...
