not sure of the exact numbers but i know our 9ers are damn close to the cap especially after getting stevie johnson from buffalo(such a good trade, next years 4th that could potentially turn into a 3rd...his cap hit isn't too crazy for what he's bringing to the table should be a good wr#3 if patton doesn't outperform him in training camp/preseason) i dont think that we would even be able to pay another player league minumum @ least until #22 rodgers cap hit comes off in june....seahawks have been writing some BIG checks lately though...I'm glad they're gonna pay sherman that much though because he will be around to get beat by the niners many times after his payday hurts the rest of his team as much as it's going to...

I'm VERY happy with 9ers taking jimmy ward @ #30 overall, dude is a cerebral player for sure and is ALWAYS around the ball, I'm honestly hoping he takes bethea's spot and we can cut bethea to clear up some more cap space for upcoming contracts...carlos rodgers cap hit comes off the chart in june i believe, something like 9mil. We need to extend kaep, crab, and aldon...i think lupatai is gone outta the 4 up for extensions unless crab wants something rediculous(whether he's worth it or not, may just not be worth it for 9ers as a whole)....I tend to think that crab wants to win badly enough that he's willing to stay in sf until he gets a ring then he can move on and get the huge contract and work on his net worth. we drafted more along the lines of replacing lupati than crabtree imho.

Hawks really just played the draft in front of them, and plus they already know that they can feast on all of the 49er draftee's once they hit the practice squad! I'm almost positive they were interested in ward, as soon as we got him they traded back into the second round...they got more picks outta the trade and the next guy on thier boards may have been projected to be a high 2nd rounder...no need to spend the kinda cash for a first round talent on a second round pick.

Baalke trading back with denver for a 7th rd in this yrs, 9ers pick up denvers #64, a 4th rd in 2015, and a 5th, shoot the 5th and 64th to maimi for the pick after the one just traded to denver...niners got their player(hyde aka frank jr) and added a 4th round pick to next years stable....genius.

todays rounds should be interesting, there is still a lot of talent left on the boards, and there's typically some studs found in the later rounds anyways...

I would have like to have seen the niners jump in the 2nd rd to get marquise lee over hyde...we have a pretty loaded stable of backs at this point (gore, hunter, james, lattimore) and all of them deserve to get playing time too...I understand developing players(and taking the best available player) but it really just didnt seem like we addressed an immediate need with the pick...wr wasn't a glaring need especially after getting stevie johnson(edit and now bruce ellington...we got our burner!, i guess we're pretty stacked at wr also....crabtree, boldin, johnson, patton, baldwin, eliington, brandon llyod...gonna be intresting to see who ends up on the 53!), we have decent depth at corner... BUT cook isn't all that good, culliver's an idiot and brock can't do it by himself...we still have eric wright and perrish cox but they're both more nickle's and it's very likely that ward dethrones both of em..

Baalke is a mad scientist...

That guy Jimmy Ward is the real deal, watch out for him:tiphat:

I have been watching Ebron for a bit now(acc) I believe he will be the next Vernon Davis. These type of TE don't come around often and you def can't get them in free agency.

ebron is a great addition to detroit, fantasy sleeper for sure...jordan cameron anyone?

ward is a beast, all of the film ive seen of him just shows hes a non stop player and is ALWAYS around the ball...not to mention he can lay a hit!

too bad josh gordon pissed dirty and will potentially miss the entire season, manziel to gordon would have been a highlight reel waiting to happen...browns D has the potential to be TOUGH this season.

Now that's some in depth draft analysis.
At the time the Jimmie Ward pick was made the 'experts' were surprised because allegedly Ward was viewed as a 2nd round pick.
Not as much of a reach as Bortles at #3 overall though.
But if the only weakness on the 49ers D was safety, and Ward can play, then it'll work out.

Dont know too much about Ebron, but petitgrew has been a disappointment (fantasy wise) in that high powered offense so if he and golden tate can take advantage of defenses bending their coverage towards megatron, stafford will have another 5k yards this year. might be a bunch of turnovers to go with it, but thats football.

Bears had an unsexy draft but shored up their defense, theoretically. Can't be any worse this year than last.

can you believe the Cowgirls passed on picking up Manziel???
:nono::nono::nono:

Jones was quoted as saying "he didn't want a QB controversy."

I think keeping Romo is controversial.......

Bears at 20/1 odds, tied with the colts and saints? really?
if their defense is even average, that might be right.

pretty surprised that jj passed up johnny football. maybe he's tired of losing and knew he had to get better trench guys than always stocking up on skill guys.
manziel would have given them their next great qb though; romo's still playing well but has been injured every year and is 34. but no way does manziel sit for 2-3 years like aaron rodgers did with green bay, the fans wouldnt tolerate that.
so yeah, jj dodged a qb controversy but if jfootball ends up being a top 5 qb, it'll still come back to haunt him. especially when romo is broken down and they have to go back to starting the quincy carters and gasp ryan leaf's of the league...

I cant believe no RB drafted until round 3

Just like in fantasy football...RB's are becoming less and less useful as each season progresses towards college style offense...

Throw,Throw,Throw... its all about WR's for me unless you have guys like Shady, Jamal, Ellington, Forte and AP.... those guys are only Top RB's because of their pass catching abilities ... the days of 25-30 touches in the running game for one player is over...

Draft all WR's and hope you get D.Thomas :)

I think our view on what "a lot of teams passed" differs greatly, you seem to think getting picked #22 means that 21 teams passed on Manziel, but the truth is only one other team selected a QB ahead of Manziel in the first round, the Jaguars picked Bortles.

So I see it as he was drafted as the 2nd QB selection in the 1st round, personally I don't care for the kid or the Browns one way or another, but I do wish him luck.

As far as drama??? Manziel was setting records one after the other from his freshman yr of play, both Texas A&M records & SEC records as well. If people made a fuss and some drama about those feats you can't blame the kid playin' with the football.

Fans & media tagged him 'Johnny Football' he went ahead and copyrighted it, good for him in not getting beat to the punch by having someone else making $$$$$$$ off his hard work from a name Manziel had actually earned.

now, Manti Te'o and his fantasy girlfriend is another story entirely, that's some self induced drama.

and I still hold fast, Dallas needed to draft Manziel, Romo sucks bad, real bad. and now they're talking seriously about expanding the playoffs (for 2015), Jerry Jones was quoted as saying "it would help my 'Boys get to the playoffs." So it seems as Romo can't do it on his own he's gonna get some help from the NFL itself, he friggin' needs it.

Speaking here as a Brown's fan....

To say that they are a dieing franchise is a bit of an exaggeration, Yort. They certainly have been having some real bad luck the last couple of decades, but compare that to the Chicago Cubs success rate over the last....hmmm...CENTURY, now that's some REAL bad luck. But nobody calls the Cubs a dieing franchise, because they have a strong and devoted fan base. Which is also what the Cleveland Browns have, even through all this shitty losing.

Regarding Johnny Manziel, he definitely wasn't what ya call a "safe pick." But what do safe picks get you in the long run? Finding a star quarterback with a safe pick is not the likeliest scenario for sure (except in those unusual years where a player like Andrew Luck is available). And to win championships, having a star quarterback is fairly important (Cleveland's defense is going to kick some serious ass this year too). The Browns, besides having their own staff do their analysis of the quarterbacks in this years draft, spent a nice chunk of money ($100K) on some outside analytics firm to rate the various quarterbacks on their strengths and weaknesses, in all aspects including personality. The quarterback who came out on top of both the team's and outsiders list? Johnny FUCKING Football.

I, like most of the Browns fans, am very happy, and excited as hell to see what the future brings. :woohoo:

I think Manziel, with his accuracy and his mobility, will do fairly well in the NFL. A russell wilson type, maybe he wont throw for a bunch of stats some games but he'll keep the chains moving.
I also think he's got the arm to throw for a bunch of yards like a Brees or a Manning (exhibit #a that accuracy>arm strength), if thats what the offense develops into. Maybe after Gordon returns from suspension. Puff puff pass, mothereffer!
I even think he'll be smarter like Wilson and not like Vick or Griffin and will learn to avoid hard hits while scrambling. Essential when you're in the AFC north. Those teams love to hit qb's. Ask Colt McCoy. He was going to be the next joe montana till james harrison scrambled his frontal lobe.

Josh Gordon...we all hoping he gets grandfathered into the upcoming change in the NFL rules regarding weed. Please....

I think JFF avoiding getting hit hard might be the most important thing in how he plays in the NFL. Dude doesn't seem to have much meat on his bones....

Packers got a safety, clinton-dix from alabama, who's finally their replacement for nick collins. Never heard of their other draft picks. Rodgers is like Peyton, he can elevate his receivers' games. He could take an undrafted free agent and make them a 1000 yd receiver if he had to.
