Good timing bumping this thread, guys. I just did a little maintenance and I'll be uploading new pics shortly. Trimmed a few lower shoots and defoliated here and there. I forgot how much this clone doesn't like to stretch, so it's really taking a long time to go upward, but that actually worked out in a way, since the led cabinet has been slow, too. I'd rather have them on the same photoperiod if I can help it.

Kal, this is a GHS lemon skunk. It's a single pheno I found and kept out of a ten pack. Finishes in 9 weeks.

Tbone, the entire armoire is like 3 feet long by 20 inches wide, and about 6 feet tall. But the space being used for this garden is something like 17" x 19" and a little over 2 feet tall.

I'll probably be flipping to 12/12 in the next few days. All I'm doing is waiting for the plant in the LED side of the cabinet to recover from the cuttings I took the other day. Then flowering will begin. :D

Hush is there any chance you can post a picture of how you have rigged the light and added the cooling tube also the mounting on this. I'm just building my first box for fun I can only hang my light vertical due to not having enough width in the box. I've manged to hang it fine with a bracket I got from the local DIY store.

But I cant get my head around how to hang the tube. Is there a link online to this hurricane style glass also I can look at. never heard of it till you mentioned. I could use something like that to stop my leaves touching the lights.

Thank you if you have the time to help.

Okay I'll try to take a picture tonight when I get home from work.

The hurricane glass tubes can be bought at any arts and crafts store, and then also places like bed bath and beyond, or any store that carries candle supplies. Hurricane glass goes over (or around, depending on how you look at it) a candle to prevent wind from blowing it out. They are also used on oil lamps, not just candles. Here's an example I grabbed off google:

Thanks very much mate I know what you mean now. Whats the cost of one of these we basically the same light. I have a 125w maxibright CFL. I guess the glass can with stand the heat the CFL gives off ?

For now ill just have a 6" clip on fan to cool the box the rest will be done passively drilling in vents at the base and top of the box.

BTW you build looks fantastic.

Yes, as long as the exhaust fan is running. I wouldn't leave the lamp on if I turned the fan off. Cool tubes only work when a fan pulls air through them. I mean, I suppose it might still work in a vert setup, because of convection, but I wouldn't chance it. Glass breaks easily. ;)

Flowering began last night. They couldn't wait any longer. So today is day 1.

I finally took pictures of the way I have the light mounted. It starts with a 4" hole cut into the ceiling of the grow space. In that hole I jam the 4" end of a 5"-4" duct reducer, like this:

VrEvaqe.jpg

Then up top I have fashioned a mount out of wire grid that allows the mogul socket to "float" suspended over this hole, allowing for air to flow through. All I do is rest the socket on this grid, and I have a few squares cut there, so the socket can actually hang freely:

kUibUCm.jpg

Then, back down in the grow chamber, we have the 5" side of the reducer protruding from the ceiling. Here is where we get our hurricane glass tube. All of the ones I've ever seen have been just shy of 5 inches diameter. So I use aluminum foil tape and wrap a thin strip of it all the way around the top of the glass tube, over and over again on top of itself, until I have created a lip that will form a tight fit when wedged gently into the reducer. You can kind of see some of it in this pic:

So that's how I did it. I'm sure there are other and better ways, but the ends justify the means for me, so I'm happy.

I dunno about better ways.

You've got quick, easy, and cheap checked off the list.

I was wondering about how you were hanging the bulb myself awhile back...just forgot to ask. Thanks for the pics hush. Can't wait to watch the fatness begin.

:tiphat:

Cheap, easy, effective AND pretty.

Its nice seeing such well put together setups that dont looked hacked.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoy cabinet porn just about as much as bud porn. Haha

Brilliant mate thanks for sharing. I think for now ill just use gride wire to keep the leaves off my light. But you have defo given me something to think about...

Next time the girlfriend wants to go in a candle shop shes going to be shocked when I say "yer spend as long as you need" I keep my eye out for a cheap Hurricane glass tube. Once i can get one ill look at the aluminium tape you mentioned. Never heard of it.

One last question what size fan do you need to use to keep the tube cool ?
