What's new

Terpenation at Terpene Station

I use 3 of these 300 watt Aquarium heaters and a fountain pump circulating water. The aquarium heaters are nice because they max out at 93F so no worry of frying your oil. It is all sitting in a large cooler to help insulate, and have a large heat sink.

Yeah that's pretty much exactly what I have but it's blue and I only have one. I was thinking of getting more. 3 works pretty well for you? How cold is it outside? Also what do you use as a heat sink? Definitely cheaper than that thing I linked to.

Separate question. I'm making a couple different vacuum chambers and one of them is going to be on an induction top warmer so I was wanting a stainless steel Stockpot big enough to fit an 8" x 8" pyrex in, so it needs to be at least 11" across on the inside, but my vacuum lid is only 12" x 12" so it can't be any bigger than that. I've imploded 2 stockpot on the hunt because they weren't thick enough. Maybe I should just get an aluminum one with a ss medium under it? Does anyone happen to have a brand to suggest?

Also thank you guys so much for all the help I've been getting you guys are awesome. I don't know why I waited so long to actually register.

Dupont PTFE is rated to -268C and is still flexible above about -79C. http://www.rjchase.com/ptfe_handbook.pdf

Use high pressure clamps to get a seal, because it isn't as forgiving as buna or viton.

Good to know, thank you GW.

But from my understanding 10" PTFE gaskets aren't advisable due to the lower pressure rating of 10" fittings?

Even double hinge clamps for 1.5" fittings would be inadvisable? Glacier rates them to 500 psi.

Would having a larger recovery/vacuum port make much of a difference? 1.5" weld ferrule vs. 1/2 " or 3/8" tubing>npt tri clamp adapter. Both going to a 1/5"x6 column with welded manifold, as featured on the MK IV. Thanks all

Sooooooo Glacier no longer stocks 10" high pressure clamps, and I am having trouble finding them elsewhere. D:

a web search for '13MHP-1000' should turn up the 10" bolted clamps you seek, noticed they also don't have the 6" anymore either.. but searching '13MHP-600' finds them elsewhere

The issue with PTFE, is it isn't a soft seal and requires more pressure to seal. We always use high pressure clamps with them.

There are also other choices: http://catalog.precisionassoc.com/asset/PAI Low Temperature Compounds.pdf

Thanks a lot jdee, found some! Luckily there is one vendor which sells for nearly the same price. The rest are outrageous in comparison.

of course... just email me. there are two different types. an all ptfe that is rated to -100f and a metal impregnated ptfe that goes to -350. the later is going to be wildly expensive
Will do Rb, email waiting for ya.

Well to anyone in the future who might run across this in the search for a stockpot I went to over 10 stores and was about to give up when I found the perfect one at tj maxx. I can't find it online though so Idk how much help this is, it was the best deal by far and works perfect. It's from a company called IL Mulino in New York. I looked on their website and couldn't find it. But if you can find it it is a 12" heavy gauge stainless steel Stockpot, again at tj maxx and is awesome.

Talked to Glacier regarding both items, apparently when they upgraded to their new site, some items which disappeared, those were among them. They should have the listings back up soon.

Does anyone know where I could find 2"x18-36" Sanitary Spools?

Glacier Tanks told me that China took the month off for new years...

Also, I am confused as to which type of gaskets are okay now...

Buna or PTFE?

It looks like Buna is rated for low temps but PTFE is rated solvent-safe, do I understand that correctly?

Any help will be repaid in dabs.

both are fine. buna doesn't work well with some of the solvents we use to clean our system, but I've never had any issues. ptfe can handle just about anything and colder temps but is harder to seal, especially on the larger sizes

What RB said. We switched from buna to viton, because buna swells when washed in alcohol during clean up.

So I am investigating alternate affordable recovery unit options. As we all know, the G5 works but is not quite built to last, and Appion does not support our kind. Although I am not sure there will be many other manufacturers who do, I am certian that there is a better preforming, more durable oiless unit out there that is capable of running R600. I already have several units on my list and plan to get in touch with the manufacturers tomorrow to find out the materials of all the components of each. I know Teflon, Viton, and nylon components are a plus, what other materials are suitable for contact with butane? 100% resistance is a must, as well as the capability to pull a deep vacuum. What other features/capabilities should we be looking for? Thanks to anyone who can provide some input, I know it will be a huge benefit to the closed loop community to find a proper non disposable recovery pump.
