Across International

I had bought a fancy two probe tester and found out that those thermostats you put in your jars when curing your flowers was almost as accurate. I just placed them on the shelves side by side to see the differential. Mind you I have a ton of those things. I think technique will overcome any minor temperature differentials.

I'm unsure if the IR will give you a good reading? maybe someone else can chime in?

I don't think you should be experiencing that large of a fluctuation. Also, you probably have the door open which will influence it.

Yeah, I wouldn't ever turn your oven off.

What are those thermostats for jars your talking about?

Yes the door is open when I'm checking the temp, I'm sure that makes a diff. Talked to a guy at Across on the phone, he said I might want to calibrate it and he usually recommends that.

Rbe where are the best places to take a temp reading inside and with what tool? I've tried to find those thermometer strips but haven't yet........

Omega doesn't restock automatically, they just ran out again...

those strips look cool! they are the cigar temp/humidy gauges everyone uses to cure their weed. they actually are pretty accurate when I used them and an accurate type k probe

So far I am using an infrared thermometer only. Where the readout is rock solid at 125, various places inside vary by at 10-20 degrees and product sitting on the racks is barely showing 105 after sitting in the oven for an hour.
I took your advice and just leave the oven on and it has been for a few days now.

I put my new aluminum shelves in today and am warming them up so I'll test that tomorrow. I'm hoping they make the diff.

I also noticed a different angle of the IR beam changes the temp it reads out so its difficult to use it unless I actually stick it in the oven and hold it perpendicular to what it is measuring.

IR thermometers are focused at a specific distance. You need to know what that distance is, and maintain it, to get consistent readings.

LOL... I wouldn't call it bad ass...it is simply something I bought on amazon that had two detachable probes so that i could measure different spots. i think i paid like 90 bucks.

Where is the stock thermocouple located on this thing? I'm surprised to read that ambient temperature effects the performance :(

From my testing I'd say ambient does effect it. My oven is sitting in a room with temps at 46f, the oven is set at 145 and the 1/8" thick aluminum shelf on the bottom setting is around 120. The shelf has been in the oven for over a day. The 2nd shelf is on the 2nd level from the top and it is about 10F lower then the bottom shelf.

I pull vac on material and barely any bubbling, IR says temp of the material is 125F

AI tech support says to auto tune the oven. Has anyone done this? Does it effect the rate which temp increases? Do I have to do this with the oven starting cold?

AI support has so far been great but at the moment I'm less thrilled.

Its all about your pk setting on the low temp contoller. If your temp is less than u set it for then drop your pk setting into the negatives. Mine is at -42 now and the set temp is equal to the actual temp.

i don't think the new controllers have a pk setting. they are already dialed in because most of the people couldn't figure out how to program it

They do have a pk setting. Mine is brand new. Accessing it is not as obvious before. U have to adjust your lc to 3 to even access that menu. Its in the manual tho. The calibration equation isnt really needed if u have a few thermometers and an hour or so to fine tune it.

Mine was not properly calibrated from the factory.... Most likely due to the fact that we all have different ambient temps going on at our houses.

Thanks hash man! are you guys calibrating oven temp for one particular rack or purging multiple slabs/ shelves at a time? Mine definitely changes a few degrees each rack as it moves up the oven.. Stilll on the hunt for a nice temp thermometer with a probe or two online.. so many choices.. thanks fellas

cheers

Look at the instructions, where it says to enter a "code" you select buttons according to the instructions and then just press up until the number on the screen matches that of the menu you would like to use.
