There's a degree in China where you go study to learn how to read and write proper Mandarin and Cantonese and then get hired by the communication businesses (tv, radio, magazines, news papers, editors, publishers, etc...) so that the content is published grammatically correct.

Consider also the many 'dialects' and languages that are not understood by everyone... people from one province can't understand people from another; can't read the classics, nor even modern literature.

this does not mean that they can't grow great clean weed if they wanted to though.

Errr, that's just economy, capitalism, corporatism, whatever you call it. Nearly all the clothes we wear are being produced by slaves. Chanceless people, a lot of children whose only option to survive is to work inhumane hours. Everything we eat is poisoned to some degree even if you grow your own it won't be as clean as it once was... The world is simply flooded with chemical nutrients that deplete the soil, life and soil destroying pesticides and herbicides, gmo/genes, radiation, pollution, etc.

The chinese are smart people, hard workers that drive the world's welthfare without ever getting due credit, respect to them... It's sad that such people have to endure some of the worst shit in the world.

And chinese/herb medicines actually work, most of todays western pharmaceuticals are patented, hacked versions of natural plant molecules with a lot more side-effects to them than the natural version.

I was more interested in their long history...and the many ways they've been governed. The Chinese get a bad rap these days...all the communism and post cold war sentiments...seem to be what westerners relive through the media. Now that they have much of the manufacturing..it's just another thing the propagandist use to make them out as evil.

Crazy when you think of how much the Chinese have influenced the states...how much they help build it...and how they were treated as subhumans along the way. There is still a lot of racism..but now..it's disguised a bit different by the "buy american" crowd. Just another slogan...letting you know..you've bought in once again. Duped.

I'm not sure where you got this info. 95% of the Chinese population over 15 years old can read and write.

Their colleges are way ahead of ours when it comes to STEM degrees. When I was on the computer programming team in college, we were one of only two US universities to place in the top 20 in the world finals. Most of the top 20 schools were from Asia and Eastern Europe. We have some great science and engineering programs here in the US, but a higher percentage of the population in China is willing to pursue degrees in technology.

At my job now (tech company in Silicon Valley), the majority of new hires are from China or India. That's not because of lower pay; they make the same salaries as US born software engineers. They're just better educated and harder working on average.

in wiki it says Venezuela has eradicated illiteracy, yet, most people can't spell, and you see misspellings on advertisements, tv and even menus... 50% of kids in the ghetto (barrios) can't read as of today.
