I've popped a couple of 40+ year old seeds and the first one, Eminem, has been cloned and placed in the 12/12 room. Looking at the big plant it is probably a male but I will know in a couple of weeks for sure. Here is the clone.

This is the big plant it came off of.

I just transplanted my other 40+ year old popped seed called MTV. This one has been slow developing but I put it into my organic soil mix, sprinkled neem cake on top and covered that with EWC. I like to mulch with timothy hay. I'm hoping I get a male and female to breed. Here's MTV.

Great thread, good luck with your old strains projects and enjoy growing organics, it is worth it!

wow, i'm surprised a 40+ year old seed was still viable. Was it held in a bank for safe keeping i wonder? Or did you find it on the floor, WAAAAY underneath the sofa??? lol ;)

No, I had them in my freezer for all those years. I had many but only got those 2 to sprout. I even had about 15 seeds labeled Skunk from those days. I couldn't get any of them to sprout. I forgot about them most of the time but decided that I'm legal and why not see if I could grow them.

I already love organic growing. I've been doing this for so many years but this first organic grow is the best plants I've grown. I was always a ProMix/bottled nutrient grower but when I learned about organic growing and had so much good information plus questions answered about mixing the soil. There was no looking back from then on (mixed my first soil Halloween night). Not that long ago but not looking back.

cool! I mean really cool! lol i kill me

That's cool though (I play around too much, reference above pun)! 40 years! Wish I would have kept the seeds from all those baggies in the 70's I bought. We had all the classics back then.

Twas' not like we had a menu back then either, you got what he brought and that was it.

"This isn't fucking McDonalds man, you got the money or what!?"

Ah the days... (He said as he daintily wipes away a small tear from his eye with the corner of a white hankie..)

I hope the viable ones grow and really turn you on.

Peace bro

I do remember buying lids in the old days. Around the time of those old pictures of the sativa fields I was getting all my pot as payment for work rendered. I quit from the 1978 - 1987 while I was a fireman. When I started smoking again I have a grow friend who used to give me about 4 plants of bud for free. Then when I moved here in 1994 I've been growing in my cellar ever since. So I haven't given any money to the dealers in ages.

Early on my goal was to have a reliable source of good quality marijuana. So early on it was helping my old grow buddy. Then getting freebies from my 80's grow friend (known him since kindergarten) and in the 90's till now just me.

Mildred seems to be unaffected by the lost of 1/2 her roots. She's filling out nicely just 10 days later.

So guess what one of my new years resolutions is/was? bingo baby, you got it. Independence from going to said people who would have things for sale. Not knocking the profession but I'm also not going to go outside ever, ever again for my medicine. The prior set up is not congruent with my personality and desire to live independently and be as self sufficient as possible.

Also, no one can ever tell me with authority what the fuck they have in their grubby little hands. WTF? No more, no more, I will be free from all that in 2014. Actually this was no resolution but part of a plan I drew up last Feb/Mar time frame when I finally decided to embrace mmj and realized I wasn't a fricken bad person for needing it. ah yes, a child of the mid 60's was I born to parents from a much earlier generation who viewed this activity, lets say, differently than I did/do. It was always something I was ashamed of wanting. Add in a wonderful wife but with zero background, I mean zero, zip, nada, never even once or probably smelled it... You get years and years of not medicating but always thinking about it and missing it.

But I'll claim the resolution for 2014 anyway.

I remember the $25 five finger bags of Panama Red, Columbian Gold, ...
then one year I remember it went to $35, ouch kinda hurts the old teenage wallet there buddy, what the fuck, i'm holding down a night job and have high school too.... unaffected by my solid argument, the guy still needed $35.

Then the next year or so or not tooooo long after 35, maybe the next year, the prices skyrocketed to $60. WTF? am I made out of fucking money brother?

Oh, the days in the sunshine. hehe

That was then brother, this is now. When I'm in the mood brother I'll tell you a little story on my thread about my father and I from a couple of months ago. Classic read man, I'm telling you it was something for me. My father's first time with anyone ever and it was me that had the moment, not one of my other bro's. Dad and I got high together.

That was one of the 2013 highlights for me and I didn't have too many last year due to learning of his advanced (stage 4) cancer diagnosis and other personal things.

But to end on a positive note, I got my dad stoned for the first time in his 79 years.... and he liked it. Imagine that.

No as in no till can only be done using organic soil and at a minimum of 10 gallon pots. The concept is to grow your plants in the same pot time after time. You don't need to dump your soil and fill up with a new batch. Now this will only work with organic grow techniques. If you're using bottled nutrients to grow then you have no choice but to dump each and every time. When you harvest you just cut out a hole in your soil around the stem and throw in some EWC/compost and top dress with more EWC (earth worm compost). There are growers who are on many grows in the same pots and soils.

I'm getting off work in about 20 minutes and then I'm going to practice my pool game with one of my teammates. So I'll get back to you later tonight and give some more input to the posts you left.

Your resolution is a very good one. I would make something similar in your position. I've been growing my own for a long time. When you get your area up and running you'll never have to buy the herb from anyone. Besides you will get to control all of the aspects of the grow.

Marijuana has always been my drug of choice since the mid 60's. I don't drink or smoke cigarettes so pot was it. I grew up in the 50's and there wasn't any pot around. I never listened that much to my parents but I wasn't rebellious. I made decision for myself. I never felt bad about my decisions. I always looked at it as two ways that you can go with a decision. Either decide to not do it or if you do throw away the negativity. Anyway I never saw it as something I shouldn't do.

Sorry that last year brought you such a difficult time. My parents are gone but they never would get high with me. I know they never really approved. Back in the 70's when I'd show up they would want to check my eyes so I would open them as wide as I could so they would see how blood shot they were. I found this very entertaining because I was a hippie and everyone knew all hippies smoke pot. Or at least that's what my parents thought.

I'm glad you had the opportunity to share the herb with your dad. I'll stop by your thread and read the story. I'm sure it will be a great read.

This is how you tell the boys from the girls. I'm sure many of you already know how.

I was checking him out in the flower room and became concerned that a couple of those pollen sacs could open up on me. So I moved him back to the teenagers room. Once I know that the pollen sacs are ripen I'll cut the plant, put it in a glass of water and collect the pollen.

One of the 3 Mildred clones is beginning to show roots. I'll transplant her this weekend. I'm glad I've got this plant for another round. It's a keeper until I find something better.

I was checking out the Eminem clone I have in the flowering room and I was surprised to see how far along he was.

Those pollen sacs look harmless but by tomorrow when I get home one of them could open up. I'm not taking any chances and moved him back to the teenagers room. Once the pollen sacs start to open I'll cut him and put him in a glass of water. I'll fix it so I can catch the pollen.

This is what he looked like just 2 days ago.

That's why I'm thinking one of those sacs could open into the oscillating fan I have blowing over it. That's not something I want to do.

{lol, we all know they don;t "spray" pollen}

It's been about 10 years since I've had a male plant. I remembered that they grow faster and taller than the females but I forgot how fast they can push out the pollen. If one of those pollen sacs had opened up my oscillating fan would have sprayed it all over my girls. I can hardly wait to get home today to check on him. I'm thinking he'll be cut down today or tomorrow.
