Friedrich Breeze Mini-split Installation...

Oh...

im trying to understand the inverter thingy....

I only need a 12000btu for now but would like to by the 24kbtu since cost isnt much difference and you never know when you want to expand shop.

Dont want the 24 to only turn on once in awhile and cause issues because its over-sized. Will that inverter "Really" knock it down to a 12k once it senses thats all it needs so i dont have issues with oversize?

Can you attach a drain pump to these things if neccessary? Still not sure how im going to run the drain.

Is ok to run the line set about 9-12 inches higher than the unit so i can run thru attic and not have to drill a 3" hole thru my block house? Or will this cause issues? Was going to bring down thru the soffit when exiting attic.

Thanks!

I'll chime in here cause I got the same unit.

Love it so far, been running since April not stop. I have a 24,000 btu cooling 5K plus a Santa Fe dehuey.

As far as "attach a drain pump to these things", yeah you can get a condensate pump if you wanted to pump the drainage off somewhere.

I use the condensate to water my plants.

Don't think you can run the line set higher than the inside unit. I believe it's gravity drained. I once tried that and it just dripped water out of the head unit.

Is the water cold? Was wondering if would help me with out a chiller :)

How bad is the 24k on the power bill? Im only running 2k so i think it may be over kill unless the inverter really does help compensate.

When you had the line set higher than the unit, did you seperate the drain line from it? I was planning on doing that because of the gravity fed thingy. I hoping the remainder of the line set can be a little higher than the unit or else i may have to rethink this as i dont feel like knocking a 3" hole thru block.

oh sorry one more thing Third Coast....

How is the smell on the condensate? Does it reek or is safe? i have seen window bangers that put out some pungent funk thru the drip line outside in turn creating security risk.

Inverter models give you some leeway but double the size is a stretch. It could work if maybe the room is big enough. For example, it could work in a room like ThirdCoast's. If he shut down two lights the shear volume of the room would keep the unit running enough to cool properly.
But if your buying a 24k to stuff it in a small area (with the thought of building a bigger room in the future, the NO, it won't run properly. Hope I didn't confuse you:biggrin:
Oh, and you can mount the indoor air handler lower than the condensing unit. Bending traps in the lineset is all that required for that:tiphat:

Asslover, thanks for the info.

The room would be 12x14x8. It would be running 2k + 2 solis digi ballasts in the room.

Do you think this 24k unit would be oversized or work ok?

I also have veg room in a closet in the same room and a small bathroom where the door remains opened all the time. I run 400 in the veg with ballast in room. I have holes that i can exhaust veg back into the bathroom adding more heat if needed.

Thoughts?

Hello, this is for any friedrich breeze owner's/installers. I recently bought one of this units, I know they are quick connect but in the installation video and manual it doesn't mention anything about opening and releasing refrigerant from outside unit like normal flare mini splits. So my question is is this literally connect lineset/electrical and then just turn on? No need to release the refrigerant like normal mini splits.

Im new here. I would really appreciate any help. I didnt want to start a new thread since, this is about the Breeze already. Thanks

Thank you, Third Coast. I specifically wanted you to answer my question so that worked out well. By the way I really like your set up, Respect man!

You're welcome!

I installed mine with just the help of my wife and I have no previous experience with anything to do with ac units.:tiphat:

Best of luck with yours.

guys i just installed a 36kbtu mr slim in my 8k room and im super happy

i was extremely worried about the install but it was very straightforward -- just stick to the length of lineset that the unit is precharged for... i did have to purchase a new lineset as I kinked the first one

you will ask... why 36k for 8k? well for one im in a hot climate, but the reaons for oversizing are very important.

1) you dont want your unit chugging at 100% all the time, it will break faster

2) the better units are variable and will "learn" the room size, so oversizing is not an issue... the benefit of this will be that the unit is ultra quiet because essentially it will never be running on its high/medium settings.

my mr slim is dead silent outside

Ceosam, so you didnt have to vacuum or anything by using a precharged line set?

I was wanting one of the fujitsu hacylons but i cant have anyone over here and no hvac experience.

Do they sell just seperate "pre charged line sets" that you can purchase for specific models or are they all the same? Again I'm ignorant to the Ac world but learning/researching.

the linesets themselves are not charged, the condenser unit has a charge (usually for 25ft of lineset)... once the lineset is setup then you release the charge valve on the unit.

i know many others who didnt vaccuum... i myself had a nice vac pump so I decided to buy the $100 guages and do it, to not only make sure the lineset was clean but also ensure it could hold a vacuum once the pump was off (to check for leaks)

You won't have any issues. The outside unit could be on your roof with the inside unit in your basement and it would work just fine :tiphat:.

MisterD, have you ever used the condensate water for plants? I have heard good and not good. Im using RO right now so a nice clean alternate source would be nice.

Yup, been using it from my a/c's and dehumidifers for years. It's basically distilled/ro water. I have read of people having problems using water from older dehumidifiers with copper coils (pretty much non-existent anymore), but outside of that no issues that I know of :tiphat:.
