If you eat food in the US you consume human fertilized plants. Municipalities sell sewage sludge, which is exactly what it sounds like, to farmers who in turn spread it on their fields as cheap fertilizer.

Which is fucked, because as has been mentioned, there is a lot of other shit in sewage besides just shit. Most worrisome are all the pharmaceuticals like SSRIs and other compounds, some with estrogenic properties, that are pissed out just as active as they were consumed and do not break down.

My diet is quite "pure" by most standards, I don't think I've consumed pharmaceuticals for years, not even aspirin, and I still would be wary about re-ingesting many of the toxins present in my crap.

If I lived on an organic farm and ate a truly pure diet, like our ancestors, then I would be all for it.

While our knee jerk reaction is to make light of it........consider a peasant farmer with little or no resources in a poor country trying to raise enough food to feed his family. Night Soil would surely be the difference between a marginal crop and a good crop.

I live in rural farm country where solid waste goes to the landfill. Cropland is ferted with byproducts from the regional poultry industry. Less the chicken manure, we'd go chemical ferts as opposed to human waste because we lack the process to mitigate disease and other fallout.

My experiments with this didn't go very well, I won't describe it I don't want to put you guys off your meals.

But I did find a technique of feeding human poop to worms without any health risks, I will post it up next week!
