hello - i'm eventually going to start some seed's in a cab and i'm not sure if the cfl's(8) would be significantly cooler than the 150 to make it worth buying them because where i'm at they are kind of expensive i've ran the 150 befor for 8 veg plant's but it was'nt in a cab so heat was'nt a issue, i use to clone and veg 8 plant's under 4 23 cfl's in a cab with a exhaust fan, one of those fans out of a air cleaner with 3 adjustable setting's and it worked great but with a couple of strains the heat kind of bothered them, i don't know the strain i have a friend just gave me a hand full of seed's of really good stuff, the cab is like 2x2x2 or something like that and i'm also injecting co2 so i think the temp can go as high as 90-95 and still get good results. any advice would be great, thanks

i think they are likely to die if you let them get to 90-95f co2 or not.
total heat will be similar, so i would go with the 150hps as its far better for fast plant growth, just make sure you have a good exhaust fan!

i think 90 isnt going to kill them, but prolly slow growth a bit. my cab is running around 79-90 degrees and havent seen any ill effects as of yet and im not running co2 just yet. might wanna look for a strain that is a lil heat tolerant so even if it does get 90degrees it wont effect growth much.. anyway im a newbie so i could be wrong but i havent had any issues yet and myne were sprouted on 420 lol. also im running 5 26w cfls that are less than an inch from the plants. good luck yo

90 or 95 won't kill them for sure. Going over 85 even with CO2 WILL reduce the yield though.

8x23w will be a bit easier to cool but if you have the 150 hps already I wouldn't bother with the CFLs. Use a cooltube or make a reflector with a fan at the end or even at both ends. I'd invest in a Whisper fan for exhaust or at least use a good PC-fan like Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm.

yo 615 u think it would decrease potency aswell at 85-90 or just effect the grammig lol

i can see heat stress starting at 85f, after that leaves start dieing/burning. this is why i couldnt use a 250w even in a cooltube, cab temp was hitting 85f, but it also had heat radiated from the bulb(which u cant stop) and it was cooking them.

I believe they can take more heat than we give them credit for, hits over 90 all summer here and they do fine outside

And outdoor is more forgiving than growing indoor. Outdoor plants have something called lots of room, fresh air and C02 constantly and can tolerate the heat (90 and above).. Indoor plants are limited to a limited size space that gets crowded and heats up quick.

Good ventilation (intake+exhaust) is the KEY to growing indoors successfully. If you dont have proper airflow, temps over 90 is a disaster waiting to happen, ie, burnt tops, fried leaves, stress, etc etc.. not to mention good luck getting your bulb/bulbs close to a plant at that high of a temp without proper airflow and or cooltubes.

Indoors you have to create and mimic its natural enviroment and is harder than most think. Why do you see that MOST outdoor grows NEVER have the problems that MOST indoor grows have?

exactly, canopy temp can get alot hotter than ambient cab temp. outside there isnt a hot bulb right above the plant...

i'm still curious too, but what superbolan said was right jorje cerventes said in his book that to get the max benefit from co2 it's actually advisable to run at 90-95 as long as it's real co2 injection and not one of puck thing's or the bootleg version's i was growing shishkaberry, dutch treat, white lightning and a few other strains in a 4x2x6 closet year round 24 hr mom's and veg with the temp's getting close to 100 during the summer and they were doing pretty good the sativa strains love high heat and co2 a friend had a Haze MONSTER in his closet that turned out amazing and he was flowering between 95-100 sometimes higher all summer long(it took like 5-6 month's to finish), anyway's thank for the advice, i think i'll go with the flouro's because i tried the 150 in a cardboard box that was 3x3x4 and i did'nt get a official temp check but it's probebly to much for seedling's,plus i'd like more blue spectrum for seedling's because with some strains(shishka. comes to mind)they can sometimes herm or geek out when starting under hps. thank's again.
