Rockwool Trees

what i am saying is, i grow plants in mediums designed for horticultural use and not insulation, designed to insulate a house...even if they are both made of rockwool, there is a difference

so yes, i have never tried it, and if you end up doing so i honestly wouldnt use this thread as a reference point as they are two different things and will behave as such

i know i'm late to the party but bushy older grower AKA BOG used to grow with plain old fiberglass insulation many many moons ago. so yeah you can indeed grow with insulation. it's just like rockwool. it's literally the same thing. blown silica fibers.

its not the same thing. you can watch videos on you tube how it is made.

grodan and horti wool absorbs water, insulate repels it because it is treated with oil,

high guy,

i was just wondering what kind of 1/4 inch line you use? 220?250? hard, soft? what tool do you use to puncture the holes in the drip line?

thanks for your time,

I had been growing in bulk rockwool for a year and was having the best results out of all mediums I previously used. Then I started having problems with what I thought was root rot, it started at the bottom of the pots and worked its way to the top and changed nice fluffy white roots to brown and slimy with the rotting smell.

I talked with dynamite about it but we coulndnt come up with an answer. I lost to whole runs which made me go back to coco, but the results from the wool makes me want to go back.

I took one of your pictures and circled what it looked like when it started, do you have any info on this?

By the way nice grow, I was telling dynamite I was going to run wool tress with vert lighting and he thought it would be killer, but now seeing you run the china hat reflectors I thing that is the best route. Peace

1) Couldn't find Chem 4 available in seed form either
2) If chem #4 is clone-only too, then the question stands: if you had no means of getting a clone-only strain, which beans would you order?

3) Do you have any pics where supercropping is visible?
I always thought that LST was a subset of super cropping techniques, or wasn't it?

Appreciate everything you do here

the next run has already been happening long ago, im running perpetually..just havent had the time to update the thread with pics, ill try to do that sooner than later..but i think one can learn more from words than from pics..so i try to add more info than pics..some people see pics only and dont bother to read anything so i dont want to influence that, and try to scare away those types of people with long paragraghs..to give you an example, ive had numerous people ask me if im running these plants in dwc, which shows the lack of attention and illiteracy , seeing how the thread is called "rockwool trees" :)

Couldn't agree more. Imo I read too much of this thread haha but thru curiosity and interest into yet another avenue of success in growing.

I ask for pictures because you sir are magical, I want to see the magic happening besides knowing its there :)

May I go off topic and ask if you cultivate food for yourself?

any friend of dyno is a friend of mine!

the points you circled in the pics are NOT root rot though...the large circle is a dead stem from a fan leaf..and all the others are either pieces of dirt or dead material that fell from the plant..no rot at all in that pic...i take alot of pride in my root health and i have never had root rot in this wool before, other than slightly on my very first run..to loose a crop with this wool from root rot there must have been some major issues...the main thing that attributes to a healthy root system is the fact i allow my wool to dry out between waterings , if you dont , theyll rot for sure without enough oxygen..that might slide in refined wool block but it wont in flock...i used to run hygrozyme and h202 everyonce in a while to prevent the birth of rot when i was still dialing in the wool..hygrozyme is great for bulk wool, if your not recirculating it..but lately ive cut both out and have the same root health as before..all the plants pictured including the one you posted were all grown without zyme, h202 or any sort of root stimulator, just good ol fashion proper watering techniques...this wool holds enough water that it NEEDS to be allowed to dry out...also running RO helps

if your running DTW, try adding hygrozyme @ 3ml per gallon, that will keep any rot at bay as long as theyre not always soaked

I didnt mean to come off like you had root rot, the stuff I circled is what it looked like. First the tips of the roots start to go light brown, then eventually the roots became a reddish dark brown. I still cant figure it out. I watered every other day in 7gal pots, they were definitely drying out on the verge of wilting sometimes. I used the same nute program as dyno copied his style to the T. I guess Im going to just have to give it a run again and see what happens:dunno:

you said your using 2x2 trays wit 20gal now easy to recirc. Are you running drain to waste? or Recirculating? If you are running drain to waste how are you getting the runoff out of the 2x2 tray, they look like there just sitting on the ground.
