not to grow.I need a few more things.this thread has been very helpful.hope to learn more.thanks

I don't mean to be negative in my reply.

However,,,, You really should measure the 'free air flow space'. I did not and had to add depth to mine..... 'scab job'.

ZZ told me it was too tight, and when I fired it up, it was painfully clear that something had to give. Heat build up was almost immediate. I would suggest firing the light and measure the temp. at the first 2"s below the light, before you have plants in there.

Looks like you are starting at room temp., and it Will rise from there. If it's possible, I'd trade that tent for a larger one. :tiphat:

edit; It'll work IF you leave the door open though.

I used a tent before but threw it away was too small for my needs it had a cheap framing system that came apart. I ended up building a framing box with 2x4 and lined it with the white ply backing mylar for durability, no holes in wall and floor is water proof any holes made in the mylar is tape with clear packing tape.

the cool thing about this tent.71.00 from ebay.I have the ability to take the top fabric panel off. pop the stitches. add extensions on frame. sew new panels for height adjustment. 2 more feet would be nice. I could not pass on the tent ,for the price. bought t5 fixture for 100.00. thanks for the advice on height.

While you're at it, expand either the length or the depth as well. About 6"s is enough.

Easier now, than while it's occupied.

$100 for an 8 tube? I'll take two at that price.... lol Good job.

On edit; If you're going to do a seed run. I'm thinking you could run a short veg at 24/0 and flip to 12/12 while they're still real small. Leaving the front door open all the time.

If I'm thinking skewed, somebody with more experience than I will speak up and tell us why not.

2 legal co Why not use fan to extract heat?I was thinking about using a stanley blower with filter.Increasing the walls will accomodate filter. simple adjustment. the top panel is reuseable. only new wall material is needed. If I could get durable reflective material, that can be sewn.I could make tents.I also would need the vents ,that are sewn into tent. All you need is industrial sewing machine for sewing tents.

Good ideas, all. Just need to get the heat out from under the light, some way.

After I scabbed the extension onto mine I also added a 6" inline duct filter at the top of the side plate. Need to build a 'muffler' for it. Sounds like a jet taking off.

Of course now I'm taking the whole thing down and moving it to another location.... good thing I used screws, and short staples for the Reflectix.

Edit; Truth be known the reflective material is Not all that important for the T5s, as long as you don't use side lighting. You do get a bit of stray light, when you tilt the light though. I'm not going to use reflective except on the back, and that only IF I don't use a fan to cool the tubes instead. Just going to use the frame, I'm thinking. So basically open sided, with a divider to black out one end of the shed.

Eventually would like to use a clear roof for light. But I have complications till next year. We'll see.

heat heat heat!still too hot in my cab when i fire up all 8 bulbs. With 4 bulbs on temperature is pretty much bang on 24 c @4 inch under the bulbs. With all 8 bulbs on it is hitting about 34 c.I will have to change my 4 inch extractor to either a 6 inch fan with reducers to fit my current lay out,or go for two 4 inch ,with the extra fan kicking in during lights on.
What would you t5 users go for?the additional 4 inch inline which will ,combined ,shift about 460 fpm,or the 6 inch and reducer which will shift approx 400 fpm.

I never realised how hot these babies can get!Even with 4 inch extracting on full power ,2 clip on fans, and 3 intake boost fans.Like cooling a 1000 watt hid haha.all fun and games.Peace

Are you exhausting from the bottom of the cab? If so, is there a way you can exhaust from the top?? Im sure that your temps would drop considerably if you pulled the heat from above the lights.

Hi,sirsteely.I'm exhausting from the top of the grow chamber.I will go with the 6 inch and reducer in the next couple of week when money allows. No big deal ,ill just veg with 4 bulbs on for now.If the 6 inch reduced cannot solve the issue ,then i will return it and go for an 8 inch haha.If i take the filter off and have the hatch wide open i can just about keep it at 28 c.However, this is not something i can risk or do,and also it is 2 c outside,it would struggle in the summer months. The joys of new builds!peace

Try it with a 2" tilt front to back. See how much more easily the heat flows off.

Don't know if it'll be enough but who knows?

VHO

Weve all heard of HO. How about VHO?
I have a 4 bulb HO T5 with 54 watt Spectralux 6500K bulbs
When I went to 1000 Bulbs, inc. to get flowering bulbs,
they have a companion 3000K 54 watt HO T5 with all the same specs except the color temp. But They also have a 95 watt VHO T5 3000K This one claims 7200 lumens as opposed to 5000 lumens for the 6500K Bulb. They both have miniature bi-pin bases and seem the same in just about every way.

Anybody ever heard of VHO?

Anyone ever used these bulbs?
Can I use them in my standardized lighting fixture?:ying:

I see the fixtures in the Way to Grow website. They actually have 'venting' capabilities! Also quite a bit more coinage.

If I remember correctly, they are set up for a 4" hose.

http://store.waytogrow.net/store/category/34/257/T5-VHO-&-LED-Reflectors/

Not sure just how interesting they are, other than having the ready to plumb hoods. I see they sell one for 240 vac., for those of you that are wired for the higher, more efficient voltage.

edit; I see they go to 6" venting when they have 8 tubes, as well. Guess that tells a story too. And $500 PLUS lamps $$$. Don't know why you'd go there?

Yup, I can get them here new for $200 plus taxes. And they'll change out half the tubes , for free.

Although, I'm not sure how much difference making a mix helps. I think ZZ did a run with 3 fixtures. One low, one high and one mixed, and I couldn't tell the difference, visually.

Has anybody found a really cheap place to buy the 8 tube fixtures? With or W/O the tubes?
