starting to look nice and frosty in there!! what are the smells like?

Hi Oldbootz,
Nice to hear from you. They're stinking up da place!
They're smelling really skunky now with that cheesy undertone. Gonna chuck some Bud Candy, Voodoo Juice & Overdrive in there this week. Time for the 'crank'! Dunno whether the Bud Candy will change the smell/taste as I've never used it before. Writes-up good tho - we'll see.
I toked a bud off the momma last night and was surprised at the strength already. Better than some of the shit sold around here for top dollar - and she's got 2-3 weeks to go!
It's gettin kinda exciting now as I can see the colas packin on weight almost daily. If they end up as good as I think/hope - it's gonna be a bumper harvest of some ass kicking weed! :woohoo:
Stay safe brother :tiphat:

Hi Willyweed,
The way I go about it is; Fill res with 40L water - add A nutes. (If you're adding a silicate, this is the time to add) Fill res to 80L - add B nutes. Fill to 100L. (This was a tip I read from a Canna rep). I leave the mix with a couple of Maxijets running to mix it all up for about an hour. Then I add any additives and leave it to mix for another hour or so. I check the EC & PH. Then I chuck a couple of kettles of hot water in to bring it up to temp & voila!
This is the first time I've used Bud candy & if its only half as good as the write-up, I'm looking forward to seeing the results! I used to use molasses but it clogged up the drippers a few times, so I binned it. I'm gonna hold off a week - ten days on the Overdrive but the Voodoo Juice & Bud Candy are going in about 10 mins after they get delivered!
Stay safe mate :tiphat:

Diary Update

Diary Update

Hi Folks,
Another diary update; Been an eventful week with my 'one sick plant'. A phenomenon I posted about in the Infirmary. Wierd that one plant out of a table of 14 should just decide to quit! As the weather here improves, my room temps have risen. This may have contributed but the other 13 are fine. I repotted her in soil to try & rescue her but to no avail, I chopped her today. I still don't understand it, anyway - move on. I changed the res & flushed the 13 with water for an hour.
So, the heat issues! I was planning to buy and install a further coolstar 600W fitting to eliminate the patches of low growth between the three lights. However, the last thing I need is more heat! I've decided instead to upgrade the main fan for the lights to a 6" SVK L1 Fan, so there will be two 6" fans working in series, one before and one after the lights to vent. This should improve the temps but I'm also going to invest in a 9000btu Portable Air Con unit. This should give me far more control over the room temp.
Moreover, I've decided to run only 12 plants in my next grow. In three blocks of four - below the lights. The new pattern should eliminate loss to the shaded areas.
I'm slowly learning more & more about my room and where I want it to be in the future. That is I suppose, what its all about. I'll post some more photos of the girls soon.
Stay safe :tiphat:

Hi Wildgrow,
The genetics of the UK Cheese I believe came from the original Skunk #1 from Holland. There was a well known growers collective in Luton, not far from me which developed the UK Cheese strain back in the day. One of my closest friends was connected to that group and its his genetics I've been growing from for around 7 years now.

Hey Iffy

What are your temps? Maybe another large vent fan pulling from the top of your grow room might help? Am also thinking since your grow space is very open, youre losing some lumens? Enclosing your grow area might increase the heat too so a double edged sword....maybe reflective sidewalls with an ac unit installed directly into the wall so youre having to cool a much smaller area? I know lots more work and cost...if your temps are staying below 85f then everything should be ok. Except for the one plant croaking and warmer temps everything seems to progressing nicely...very high tech setup btw! Looking forward to seeing their progress...keep those updates coming and stay safe mate! :)

Hi Gws35,
Nice to hear from you mate.
Yep heat was a major contributing factor. I've learned that all's fine in the winter, I can dial the room in easy but as soon as the weather improves, the heat builds up quickly. I also recall that the PP1 was a bit heat sensitive. So I'm gonna upgrade one of the fans cooling the lights with a 6" SVK L1 Fan with a greater output. This should improve the amount of heat coming from the lights. Also gonna invest in a portable A/C Unit which will give me a lot more control.
Change of res tonight:

Plant Magic Bloom A&B
Plant Magic Bloom Boost
Bud Candy
Voodoo Juice
Keep It Clean

Got some Overdrive to go in, in about 10-12 days.
Stay safe people :tiphat:

Hi Willyweed,
Yeah I deffo grow in the day. I like everything to quieten down for the night, got neighbours! I veg from 7am to 1am. That way at least folk are awake then and I'm up till one most nights. Flowering is much easier & I run from 10am to 10pm.
The A/C unit I've ordered is a portable 9000btu unit, with a 5" exhaust duct that will slot into the venting for the lights.
I've not used ghe ripen but I guess its similar to Overdrive??
Do you add it about 2 weeks from harvest?
Stay safe :tiphat:

Diary Update

Hi Folks,
Another diary update, been a while coz I've been busy waging war on galloping root rot! The one sick plant had root rot and it was systemic before I knew what was going on! Bloody Hydro! The times I've cursed & said I'm going back to soil - you wouldn't believe!
Heat - heat - heat! The issue & a small bow in my NFT table, which slowed down the flow of nutes to that one plant. Hey presto, fucking carnage!

I lifted the top of the table 1 1/2" inches to increase the flow until harvest. When I've stripped the table down I'm gonna mount it on two timber rails to make sure its straight for the future. I've installed the A/C unit and its doing its thing nicely, temps are now under control :woohoo: So the underlying problems have been dealt with.

Next, sterilisation of the system using H2o2 in high concentration for 4 hours, drain down, clean & refill res with 2ml p/L H2o2 for 3 days. Topping up to replenish the H2o2 with 200ml each day.

Day 4. Total drain, clear away any brown roots. Wash table down with a brush & strong H2o2 solution. Clean & rinse res. Soak all accessories (pumps, thermometer, air stones etc) in H2o2.
Removed two plants that were past helping & only adding to the problem. Fresh water with:
Stop Rot (roots)
Voodoo Juice
Vitalink Bio Pac
25% Nutes
25% Bloom Boost.

Day 5.
Removed another three plants today that wern't responding and clearly past it. So - a 50% survival rate - brutal!

Makes me weep to look at the blanks!
So, got 7 plants in recovery now and looking like they're gonna make it.

I'll keep you all posted.
Stay safe :tiphat:

Ouch! Sucks to put that much work into saving them and losing that many, but at least it wasnt a wash. So everything is back to healthy white?

The speed at which something goes awry in a res system is what keeps me hand-watering in soil.

Im glad Ill still get to see these ladies play out - might grab some when they relist.

Diary Update.

Diary Update.

Hi Folks,
Another update for my diary;
My stuff from Ebay arrived today :woohoo:
6" SVK L1 Fan
6" Acoustic Ducting
6" Ducting Pipe
6" - 5" Reducer
5L Plant Magic Bloom A&B
8Oz Great White Myco. (Wow - £65)

Within minutes of unpacking, those GW little microbes were swimming in my nute tank & colonising my girls' roots.

Fitted the bigger fan to my light cooling system this afternoon & the temps came right down. No need for the A/C until summertime!
This released a 5" TT (pretty shit bit of kit really) to replace a 4" TT (temp control) on the intake spigot. The 4" TT from the intake will now go on the mother tent, which will in turn release a 4" in-line fan.
This little 4" in-line fan I'm gonna mount on the side of my res. I've been a great & long believer in this simple method for res cooling. I read it years ago on Overgrow, posted by a very knowledgeable chap called Nimby. I'm gonna fix some ducting to the 'back' of the fan and let the open end hang in front of the air intake. That way it'll suck cold air & blow it on my res.
My new fan.

My girls!

The Momma!

Soon be cooking on gas! More to come.........
Stay safe :tiphat:

so you were using canna nutes then switched?
I think I saw in the beginning of this thread you were using canna aqua vega a&b.
What kind of water were you starting with? If you were using r/o water with the canna veg nutrients you may of had a cal/mag def. Canna recommends using thier soft water formula for people with r/o water . and hard water formula for people with water over 250 ppm to start with ( on .7 conversion factor )

Hi Cmart,
Thanks for the input mate. I used Canna Hydro Vega. Bought it in error. Its meant for run to waste & I used it for recirculating. Should have bought Canna Aqua but hey I wont flush 10L of fresh nutes. Nutes are nutes right? I knew I'd have to add some humic & fulvic & I foliar fed em Magic Green. Vegging is no problem with this strain. My water is hard but i run it through a ceramic & charcoal filter set-up to take out unwanted chems etc. My PPM is as far as I can tell around 350-380. So I use hard water nutes. I havent had a problem with the Plant magic Bloom, in fact the girls loved it for the first couple of weeks. It was the dreaded root rot that did all the damage.
Thanks again mate & take it easy :tiphat:
