New flower room set up

Not too sure how this will upload lol, but i was looking for input on my flower room ideas. I currently run 4000 watts in horizontal fixtures with good results, but after doing a lot of research on vertical growing I'm considering giving it a go. My room dimensions are 6ft x 12ft with 8ft ceilings so a decent amount of space. As of now I run 12 plants (my license limit) and was considering setting up the designs below in the pic. Question is do i use 3 x 600 watt for 8 medium sized bushy plants orrrr 2 x 1000 watt for 6 large taller plants? Heat shouldn't be an issue with a 12,000 btu ac unit (i would hope) Any input or criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have restrictions on how many plants in veg? Either way you go with plant count definitely good with three 600's over 2 1000's. I'm inclined to suggest based on limited information, that you do 3 600's with 8-12 medium sized plants.

thanks for the fast reply, both veg and flower i believe i'm allowed 12, i have two separate veg areas, my flower room is its own area...i was leaning towards the 3 600's i just have no experience with vertical under my belt so def wanted some input thanks:tiphat:

I'm new to icmag as well, any info you would need to further help i'd be glad to answer...also i can't give out rep yet? i assume because i'm new

I'd vote for the 3 x 6oo as well, but I've never run 1k's myself so.....

I'd also suggest about 8 or 10 plants. Depends on how you plan to support them as well. Cages, trellis, screens...etc. They all affect your lamps penetration differently, and could affect how many plants you want to run and what wattage light you want to go with.

thanks Marlo, I def got some inspiration from your wow thread that i read through before posting on here

Has anyone done both vertical and horizontal as a combination? Reason I ask is I have 2 dual 600 watt lumatek ballasts and 3 1000 watt quantum dimmable ballasts thats 5400 watts...figure if I use 600 or 1000 of it for veg, I still have a lot of juice to play around with. But i question if its overkill to use vert with horizontal??

I am currently doing a checkerboard pattern tree grow and I have some overhead horizontals. I wish that I would have just set them up and double-stacked verticals instead.

Personally, I think that you are a bit "under-lit" (2K over 72 sq ft is only 28 watts per sq ft).

I would try to cut the room in half (2-6x6's), and stack 3-600's in each (flipped) for a perfect 50 wpf.

Ya snuck another one in there on me.

Using your current equipment, i would stack a 600 over a 1K. 6 around each stack. Start them with only the 1K lit till after stretch, then kick on the 600. Veg under your other 1K, dimmed if necessary.

Welcome Bro....Takes 50 posts to give rep and receive pm`s so keep postin up and yas`ll be there in no time.......now.....

Everyone that`s ever ended up down here in vert-ville with reflectors over bare bulbs has ended up doin away with em cuz they`re not needed....

Bare bulbs rule and all else drool...bet on it....that said.....If yas got 72 sq ft , 3600 watts will do yas proud with 50 watts per sq ft , so why not run all 12 plants yas`re allowed ta have in flower and be done with it.....and.....

Rule of thumb on a/c requirements with bare bulbs is 4000 btu`s per 1KW.....but....major air exchange twice per minute can reduce that considerably if pullin fresh air from a lung room conditioned with perfect environment pumped in and sucked out continuously ftw.......anyways.....

I see no problem runnin 2 plants on each 6' wall and 4 on each 12' wall for bigger plants , or whatever plant placement it takes to accommodate an entry into said grow area , as well as linin the walls with netting to tie back to and create that perfect "sideways canopy" with no holes and max return on investment.....regardless.......

Yas landed in the right place guaranteed , cuz there`s MANY knowledgeable and experienced minds down here in the "Twisted Kids" forum.......Good luck and Holler if we can help......

Peace....DHF.....:ying:......

Wow I appreciate everyone's input, def the best forum for knowledge and quick replies, although hesitant bc I like my current set up I'm always game for trying new things and more efficient ways of growing... Something about bare bulbs just seems better.. 1000 watts with 600 stacked on top seems to be the way, ill just step up the ac to an 18000 btu unit as I have a spare 240 volt plug on its own dedicated circuit

I was skeptical & hesitant about 7 months ago because shit was going "good". I had that "why fix something that isn't broke" mentality. I simply would never look back to horizontal again. Vert shits on horizontal ALL DAY

There`s not a single person that I`ve converted over to the "dark side" of growin that`s ever RE-verted back to flat grows once they`ve wrapped their head around the concept and moved forward.....EVER.....now.....

I`m not shittin on flat grows with reflectors cuz all setups have their places AND limitations , but with bare bulbs there`s at least 4 times the surface area on the walls for plants to thrive and bust gpw`s out the ass...and....

If yas got room and can work it , even plants on the floor for that 5th dimension of kickin horizontal grow`s ass.......but......

I totally understand the concept of what yer used to and not fixin what ain`t broke , but since I started out with bare bulbs hangin over 20 yrs ago with a 360 degree light spread and everything that ain`t green covered in reflectix , reflectors that are at best half of what a bare bulb can do just can`t cut the mustard IME......so.....

CC....Jump on in da pool.....the water`s fine...... and ...Yas won`t be sorry.......bet on it......

Good luck and.....

Peace....DHF.....:ying:......

is there a way to do a SOG with small Plants.. with vert? iunno.. its like i want to convert.. but wen i see how big u have to get the plants.. and all that it makes me worry that my turn over rate will suffer.. because when my rooms almost done. i need to have shit ready to go .. so if i cant get them big in time.. ill have to run a SOG. n with vert ? would 1000s hanging vert on a light mover allow me to use the floor? or shouold i just stay floor with SOG and go barebulb vert if i can do big plants . even with my setup now.. i run basicly a SOG with big plants too.. but im lookin to increase my harvests DOUBLE.. and i think i could but im going to have to convert and then make my flower room back into a veg room and start VEGgging some monsters. its just i dont think that having 3 1000s in the L pattern my big flower room is in .. and i cant change my layout.

Let`s see......Bobbles , Farmhouse Cat , Mr D , Gmax , and BST come to mind for Vertical SOG grows to study and work towards....if.....

Yas can make it work with your layout......so.......Many ways ta skin a mule........Just gotta wrap yer head around the concept and move forward with a solid game plan......

IME....Vert setups aren`t fer stoners cuz it takes discipline and determination to make shit hoon and produce , but once all ducks are in a row and set in place.......then.....

It`s simple.....babyshit....

I'm running 4 k horizontal and 1 k vert. In an 8 x8 room. I like it making some good flowers too.
Good luck, as dhf said, and I'm learning. Vert takes dedication to get her dialed in!

Day 25

ill search for the easiest way to set it up, i already have the fans that point straight up, i seen them in the things you need to go vert thread...only other question i have is in regards to training the plants...ex: i usually top for wide bushy plants and train them like an upside down umbrella, but i would imagine a taller untopped plants would work best? Reason I ask is since i have about 8 ft in height and don't have a high plant count, i cant stack plants on top of each other

pics from my last run, i don't like to top from seed just to see the natural shape of the plant to learn from when i take clones...could be my last horizontal run so these pics are now priceless !! lol jk :plant grow:
