Howdy all

This is how I built my dry sift box, with 110 screen, 11" x 17" screen area, for $15.

Let's go:

The screen:

Got this at Michael's, the craft store. It's with all of the T-shirt design stuff. Made by a company called YUDU.

In the store, it's a hard product to find. It's packaged as just a flat piece of cardboard, about 3/4" thick, and they're stacked up tall-ways like books at a library.

Michael's usually has a 50%-off-one-item coupon online. You can just pull it up on your phone at the store and they'll zap it.

These are also available on Amazon.

The frame:

Built out of 1" x 4"s. The dimensions of the screen, frame and all, are 15" x 19".

Because you'll need to secure the frame at each corner, you don't want to mitre your corners.

Your cuts will ultimately be two 18" and two 14" pieces. They will line up with a square end in each corner. Ultimately, each corner of the screen frame will be anchored into a different piece of 1" x 4".

The construction:

Always drill pilot holes!

I fastened the frame together with a pair of screws at every end. Do this before you put the screen on the frame.

To fasten the frame to the screen, use the same screws you used to construct the frame. Put down a washer (I used a series of two washers, graduating in size) to fasten the screen itself to the frame.

..All of that, to make this:

I like your style silver... Going on 3 years old and many screen changes... Best part is that ethanol wash when it starts getting a bit clogged!!

Thanks ZZ!

LouDog, I love it! What size screen? And do you have anything on the bottom of yours for collection, or do you collect over a table/etc? Looks like you've got a built in tray..?

Think the screen was 126um... But I bought a bunch so long ago, I can't be sure...

I have a dark ceramic tile glued to the bottom tray (very carefully). Then the top tray is connected with velcro and holds the screen on the underside. Standard staples into the soft wood hold the screen taut, and I change it out whenever it gets a little too clogged and golden... It gets to see all my trimming and any seed sorting...

Peace homie

I'm so confused - your jive is making me feel old.

But you're right - hell, last time you were in town, nothin' was goin' on, and I told you I had no intention..

Three months later.... :chin:

nice Kiefbox! I don't have one but the small one's cost $40 in my area and there's only one screen. So what type of ethanol do you prefer and do you drench the whole frame or dab it off?

I use an everclear knockoff that sits at 96% ethanol... Cheap too.

I never take etoh to the wooden frame or tile, and just take off my silk screen when it gets clogged (it's only connected with normal staples into the soft wood), and give it a few dips in a bit of etoh.... Then I install a new screen ;) I bought a 1 meter/1 meter piece of silk that I've been working off for years now..

Don't spend 40 when you can spend 15 and always upgrade to multiple screens later!

Good vibes for the holidays!

Hey Third Coast! :tiphat:

There are a couple ways to collect, .. The frame I built is four sides with the screen on the bottom. I fill with trim (dried & in the freezer) and basically just shake it side-to-side over a glass table. If that becomes too tedious, I'll work the trim across the screen with a credit card or something.

After that, I just use a credit card to scrape up all of the kif from the coffee table.. :D

But, there is another (a better!) way.. LouDog420 has a collection tray built in to the bottom of it. I think it's essentially a flat/hard/solid surface, that sits beneath the screen, that's velcroed/strapped on to the frame..

I like this approach because then my lazy ass can actually fill the damned box, sit back on the sofa, and work it back and forth in comfort. :joint:

Nice! Now to figuire out how to hook it up to a dremel or some such for the autosift action. Taking my 40% off in on Friday!

:( Well, I've been to two Michael's, and they don't have this screen in stock. They have a larger mesh screen in stock. I will keep trying.

Greenheart, how about one of those hand-held vibrating back massagers...? You know, like you can get at Bed, Bath and Beyond? You know what I'm talking about?

DHF

Built a 110 micron screen dry sift tumbler with a rotisserie motor from a gas grill and plywood yrs and yrs ago per tutorial from 1 of the old sites gone and forgotten.......

Fully self contained in a Rubbermaid tote and all the skuff landed on a framed mirror underneath for eazy peazy collection once done.....but......

I did it with the nugs not the trim......All my shit got trimmed wet and all remnants disposed of to my compost pile at the farm........

I know....What a waste , but I had waaaay too much on my hands ta deal with runnin perpetual harveys and worry bout a buncha flarf/leaves......anyways....

SH.....Thanks for the thread.....You da man.....

Peace....DHF.....

Was thinking about massagers as well. Looking at those premade holes wondering if an electronic toothbrush would work for a stand. Also got that grill rotissery motor DHF thanks for the inspiration.

The screens are not easy to locate I had to ask the clerk. They were on the floor back by the T'shirt supplies.

Yeah, same here, I found 'em, and then all they had in stock were the 220s.

;) But seriously, you're right - the fuckers are hard to find. And I've been in there before and asked different clerks if they have anything along those lines, and they've always said "Nope."

So apparently the screens are hidden even from the folks who are paid to spend time inside the store. :)

Yeah, same here, I found 'em, and then all they had in stock were the 220s.
