Senor Sloth, always when I write your name I look to find that little accent at the top of the 'n' and can never find it. So frusterating! Nice thread though, hope all goes well.

There is a secret combination for that accent missing from your keyboard : Ctrl+C followed by Ctrl+V :dance013::biggrin:

ya to type an enya (i think thats how the letter is said...in the united states we would say "squiggly n") i usually just copy paste from my name on the left...and then i don't need to get an enya key lol...originally i just went to a website with lots of enya's and copy pasted from there...you can also download a small virtual keyboard for the corner of your screen with all the accent marks but it's a hassle...

well i suppose an update is in order...i am just realizing now that i got rid of every gram without taking any dry shots...i'm sorry for that boys...ive been preparing for a new strain to enter my cab for a while now, shopping a ton, and thought i had what i wanted in bog's sour bubble...of course they only released 25 packs and i missed them, despite checking the sites almost everyday...i guess i lapsed on seedbay more than the boutique cause i assumed they would be on the boutique for some reason...anyway it's gone and frankly i'm almost glad, i was supremely pissed when the boutique stopped taking electronic payment...in my eyes they were doubling our shipping times, increasing our risk, and the amount of effort to order because it was cheaper for them and with this site censoring every other seed bank out there not affiliated with the boutique they don't have to worry much about losing huge numbers of customers...it just doesn't seem right, the counter culture rebelled against corporations using these kind of tactics, putting profits and shareholders over the customers that make their businesses possible... participating in censorship and falsehoods(like saying your electronic payments are "temporarily down" for over a year at least)...i have a huge problem going through a company that so blatantly embraces these types of tactics, especially one that is supposed to be PART of the counter culture...helping us overgrow the governments and the corporations who dump billions of dollars into keeping it illegal for their own profit margins...seed companies shouldn't be censoring weed gardening sites for more profits, and they should be making it as safe as possible to order from them...not forcing us to send them unsecured money through the mail like it was 1988 or something...

frankly i was willing to put up with it for bog's gear, since switching from 12 week strains back to 8 week strains ive been supremely happy, i love a monthly harvest and i am not a patient person...most of those 12 week strains are done growing at 9 weeks, and then your just waiting around 3 weeks for trichs to change...boring in my mind. bog's gear was supposed to be all 8 week stuff as well, but at this point ive given up completely on seedbay and the boutique...

so now that i made this decision i had to start over from scratch, deciding with no strain in mind, what qualities i wanted most...i decided i had had enough soaring sweet sativa's for now...what i really wanted was something totally opposite...narcotic, sleepy, couchlock pot...something with good medicinal qualities...i also wanted it to fit into my 8 week ripening paradigm, and something a little more complex and earthy...similar to my old northern lights(not the nl you see these days!)but stinkier...

well my search quickly led to landrace afghani stock...i checked out a lot of similar stuff, sensi star, afghanica, afghani#1, some mazar, black domina, afghani stock from multiple companies...i'm sure thats only half of them, ive been pouring over grow reports and pictures and seed companies for days now...thats actually the reason ive been so lax on my updates lately, that and i had a lot of qwiso to smoke...now i'm on a tolerance break and really diving into this project...

in the end i chose Maple Leaf Indica, there are suppose to be 7-8 week pheno's in most landrace afghani stock, and mli is supposed to be one of the most pure...plus it's available at real seedbanks that i can order online like a grownup with my credit card! who would have thought, eh? well i gotta hit up the bank later and re-confirm my safe address but i'll be pulling the trigger tonight!

part of the reason i wanted a super sleepy heavy body high indica was i figured it would make a nice hybrid with my super energetic light head high c99...i looked for something with a more earthy flavor, which i would characterize as the opposite of my c99's sweet tropical fruit flavor...i figure it's not real breeding, afterall my c99, while the tastiest and most potent c99 ive ever tried, it is still poor stock that likes to hermie a tiny bit no matter what...and on top of that i am picking a strain to do a hybrid with while knowing relatively nothing about it...but i don't get a chance to run many strains cause i am poor so i figure if anything i was upping my chances of getting what i wanted in the progeny...

namely i would like a hybrid that doesn't seem like either parent...i figure the best way to achieve that is by crossing two opposite plants, and selecting toward the center...something that retains most of c99's flavor but with a more full bodied high...id also like to select it toward the best sog shape so i can maximize yield, c99 works in sog but wants to branch, i think an indica will help that, and my old nl, while also afghani and pretty couchlock, had a really boring 2 dimensional sleepy high...i think the c99 might help make that high more thoughtful, while still very sedative... i want sit on the couch and think weed, not sit on the couch and drool weed. id also like to make f2's of the mli to go through at a later date...

anyways i transplanted my 4 new c99 moms, killed the skunk mom with much pleasure, along with ALL the skunk clones, i went all "office space" on them with a baseball bat in a field...jk but omg was i happy to stuff them in my dead leaf bucket! got i hated that skunk special! as it turns out i had enough c99 clones to do the entire next run as c99...waiting for more roots helped, 2 days longer of cloning and i had at least twice the roots sticking out of my rapid rooters, so i'm hoping that means accellerated growth, i haven't opened my cab in 3 days so i don't know what they look like but i'll have pics up later today.

i'm starting to worry about the ripening left side, i haven't defoliated AT ALL to prove to myself whether or not defoliation helps or hurts...the buds look like they will be enormous if they follow their usual path, honestly it almost seems impossible, so i worry that the bottoms just wont ripen and fatten...im not giving in though i must know if defoliating is worth it or not, if not, then my grow method is by far the easiest way to get a good yield...because i don't have to veg, or train in any way, just plant clones, water twice a week, and harvest 56 days later...so easy compared to training to a screen for weeks and weeks or spending 3 months vegging a vertical monster and another 2 constantly training it around and away from a bulb...

this post seems to long without ANY pics so here, it's a pic of a POS skillet i made the other day...i had a ton of qwiso and my vapor globe was pissing me off...i don't like it, had it loaned out and now that it's back i wanna throw it out...anyways turns out you can take an old school bong slide, hit it with a pencil torch and bend it into a vapor catching curve dealy like kut makes...i made the skillet out of a spoon and wired them together, sure it's no hmk, and trust me thats my very NEXT purchase but this thing works better than my expensive vapor globe so i'm happy till i come up with the money for a real titanium one from kut(maybe it'll be my Christmas present lol)...anyways i'm trying not to smoke for a few weeks cause my tolerance is stupid high right now, smoking a gram of hash a day minimum, almost no pot...i just don't have the time for pot...it doesn't touch my head with this tolerance...

ya that's what i gathered...for the most part thats what i use this site for, gathering info about strains, i'll do a search for threads with the strain in the title, read EVERY single page of every single thread it finds, then i read all the strain guides, google it, and then finally google images to see if there are any decent bud shots floating around...it's a lot of work but with all of the thousands of strains there are these days it's necessary to make sure you don't end up with average blah stuff...or something that flowers too long, has a bed reputation with members...all kinds of crap, not to mention seed companies can all be trusted to exaggerate everything about every strain they make... plus i swear, like over half the strains out there are basically the same thing, some kinda super poly mutt thats just a little bit of everything, afterall there are only so many landraces to begin with...eventually our melting pot of strains gets pretty homogenized...i spend a lot of time looking, and judging every member making a claim about said strain, cause a lot of the people making claims of hermies, poor yeilds, pure indica's that aren't really pure, are first time growers who mangled their poor little plants and blamed the seed company for their own lack of experience...that and these days there are a TON of little teenage posers on here pretending to be adult growers, spouting pure nonsense to appear legit...talking up and much more commonly, talking down strains they have never even smoked, let alone grow...

i really like strains that stand out, unique ones, like my c99, with a flavor ive NEVER tasted before in another strain or street weed...an almost pure sativa done in 8 weeks with killer potency? it's not only unique, it's a holy grail strain...the only thing it's missing is a sleepiness to the high, something warm over your eyes to get you to bed... im really hoping that maple leaf indica will be that unique, i would really like some pure landrace indica, without any skunks, or g13 haze or any of the other junk they breed into EVERYTHING overseas! i want something pure...from what ive read this is the strain that i will find that in, and if not, well i may just continue the search for a really sleepy indica...even though lately sativa's seem more popular...well im tired of thinking and being energetic! i need a frickin nap! and i got a really good feeling maple leaf indica will be the girl to do that!

anyways here are a few pics of the ladies, the clones have only been in there like 3-4 days, not sure exactly...they are a little more spindly than usual thanks to last months nutrient mishap (fuck you maxibloom! never again!)but they are starting to grow right on schedule and i'm certain the extra roots will help with growth.

my ripening side has 3 weeks too go and if things go along the normal lines this harvest will be epic! without defoliating the buds have really got BIG BONES! meaning they laid the framework down for some very big buds, usually at this point they spend a week or two filling that framework in with calyx, then a final week of plumpening and i may actually hit the elusive gram per watt mark! i can't wait for the plumpening...this part really bores me...i watered both beds today and i'll be ignoring them for 2 days straight, then 3 days from now i'll open and water again...i find if i don't open the cab and look at them, they boil faster...you know the ol' adage...

anyways i can't attribute it to the lack of defoliation completely, my massive yeild increase over last round was likely also affected by being able to move my plants much closer to the light, using higher quality nutrients in larger amounts, and maybe slightly lower temps helped as well, although i moved the plants so close to the light they only really see colder temps at night...as you can see from my pics i am trying to keep them close enough to the light to curl the tips of the fan leaves, but not to the point that they start to totally canoe...i would like some flavor left over and high temps also make for fluffier buds...

anyway they have been getting koolbloom added to their regular full dose of lucas via flora micro/bloom...as with my clones no leaves yellowing, no leaves burning, just perfectly healthy ladies, packed like sardines into a can...this round they seem to have more trichomes crawling out to the sunleaves...not sure what to blame that on...better nutes, stronger light...beats me...

anyways i'm gonna be switching my bulb from hortilux eye hps to digilux metal halide with extra red...should be fun to see but after ordering my new strain i am pretty broke so i'll have to wait till next month...same goes for tropf blumats and my hmk curve...pretty soon i'll be able to afford to convert an ounce or two of buds into butane oil each month and for the most part give up buds...the more qwiso and buddar i smoke, the less desire i have to smoke flowers...and from what i can tell its much healthier too...some day eh? i suppose diary's are for laying out the past, pondering the present, and dreaming of the future...

well boys, as it turns out i ended up with a lot of money leftover after bills, so i decided to pull the trigger on that new metal halide bulb I've been wishing for... the original goal was to get a digilux 400w mh but my shop doesn't carry them, so i had to get this sun master warm deluxe bulb, the spectrum is supposed to be 3200k...lumens are way less than hps bulbs but lumens measure green light that plants don't even see so it's not really a useful number to be using, imo...i'll be screwing her in in a couple hours after the old hortilux eye turns on, so that i can get a picture of what each bulb looks like, lightwise...it doesn't matter really, but im curious...i mean, this bulb is freaking HUGE! like i could literally fit 4 of my hps bulbs in the box this thing came in, it's like football sized lol, maybe nerf football...but it's big and i'm curious...this thing ended up costing me almost as much as the hortilux so it better last long, i haven't researched the brand yet...does anybody know offhand? the digilux red i came to get was only 50 online so i figured it would be as much at the shop...my shop has good prices, always like 10% cheaper than the national garden wholesale catalog...

anyways i'll risk getting banned one more time to say this...i ordered my seeds this morning, payment was received, and my seeds have already been shipped...if the emails are to be trusted, which they are...it's crazy how incredibly easy and professional it is to go with the other guys, good electronic payment program, professional website, super fast shipping...if one of you guys sent in your "money order" to the boutique, the same day as me, i will be receiving my seeds the same day that your money order will likely get stolen by some dutch d bag post man...and that's the difference between ordering from a professional company that puts their customers first...they don't have to censor an entire community of growers just to stay in business...i can't believe i ever considered sending physical monies to them...even for bogs gear it's just not worth it to me...i care about my safety and i feel the biggest seedbank in the world has it on the top of their priorities...

that being said if gypsy ever decides to accept electronic payment, and maybe letting up on all the communist China style censoring of all brands but their own(i mean how can you have effective discussion about cannabis when you aren't allowed to talk about over half the companies in the market?!)... i'd be there in a second to take advantage of all the great seedbay deals, and bog/sotf's stuff, hell there are a lot of small US companies operating through gypsy, i don't see that as much at the other guys(they don't own a major grow forum like gypsy), so really i guess i would probably prefer gypsy, if it weren't for having no adult methods of payment...i'm not ordering junk from the back of a boyscout magazine, and i'm not gonna just send money or a money order through the mail...

anyways i'm guessing i'll start those puppies in about ten days when they arrive, i might start a few mk ultra as well...i miss my old og kush from reserva....but i am thinking i'll probably wait till i kill off most of the maple leaf indica's....i want the most classic landrace affie i can find out of the pack, one male, one female...then the rest get tossed...personally when it comes to saving mom's i don't think you should ever save more than one female from a quality pack, because they should all be theoretically similar...sure in some poorer bred stuff you can end up with 5 females that all look and taste totally different, and may want to keep more, but that seems like gambling to me...i had that issue with Rez's chemdog ibl, potent for sure, but every single plant looked and smelled completely different, NOBODY would believe me that they were all from the same pack of seeds...i don't consider that stable enough to sell for 200 bucks a pack, plus the seeds came with mosiac virus but whatever, i got a few decent mom's out of it, till the mosiac started to spread to my og and ak...then they all had to go.....

anyways im hoping to learn a bit more over the upcoming weeks about landrace afgans...so i can best choose the "classic affie" and her mate as well, ive never had a true landrace, and i'm pretty excited to give it a try.

well i also got a few more blumat jr's for my mom plants...right now i'm trying to get 4 moms going well, i still have a LOT of planning on how im gonna fit this new strain in but off the top of my head i only have one more month of c99 clones to be taken, in about a week and a half i think, then i can kill the big old mom, and keep one of her clones, then the month after that will be a mixture of my different maple leaf indica pheno's, i'll do 2 runs to decide which i like best, though with my perpetual they will be running consecutively, and unless im able to pic the best mom before they are more than 3 weeks into budding(i know i can't)i'll have to start the next round with all the pheno's as well, so that i don't accidentally just guess and pick the worst one, by the 3rd month of mli i will finally be able to select the best pheno and clone her out to the whole bed...i'll probably start doing half and half's with c99 at that point as well...

anyways here is my new bulb, anybody care to share your experiences with this brand? i'll post pics later showing what the cab looks like with the new bulb...

omg that bulb was a pain in the ass to put in! it's so big it's very close to the top of my hood...i'm a little worried the top of my hood may get a bit hot...also i ended up having to put on two gloves and try about a dozen times to get it screwed in, it was such an aquard angle...

ok so, wtf is with sunsystem hoods only opening one way?! i wish i could switch it around so that it opens the right way, as it is now the thing opens towards the back of my cab, and is impossible to work around....i have to lower my plants all the way, then open the hood, then unscrew the hinges and completely take the glass off just so i can clean it, and the buds were too tall and i didn't have the energy to lower my plants so i just squished my buds for the 25 mins it took me to screw in this lightbulb. if i could just get it to open the other way, or move the socket to the other side this wouldn't be an issue but i can't, so my dumb hood is harder to service and clean than my cooltube was, which is kinda hard to believe...i think when i remake my hood i'll put my fan and junk on the right side instead of the left, then my hood should open the right way...

anyways enough bitching, lol the new bulb seems pretty awesome...it's really bright and white in there....everything looks super lush in the white light, i can't wait to see some changes in the way they grow...here are a few side by side pics to show the difference between hps and mh...

...the extra dankness is mainly due to the 17 jars of double rainbows i captured and added to the soil...

...you know I'll be using that next time I sell an ounce right?

Been away for awhile...seems I missed much of the party. Keep up the great work senorsloth. I won't be a stranger anymore. :tiphat:

wow! what happened! lol i went 5 pages with like 5 replies, i thought i was talking to myself, then bam! lol ive been using this diary instead of the paper one i kept for my grow before finding my camera, it's hundreds of pages of ramblings...most of which i'll probably never read again...having pictures makes this diary much more effective...i want to get a couple side by side pics today showing how much bigger the buds are this round without defoliating...

so i'll do that and probably get a nice round of bud shots too, i want too see what happens when i take pictures with the mh on...the metal halide is really cool for looking at the buds, they look so much more alive when they don't look redish brown...the only problem is i know i am looking at hps bulbs with metal halide light...i can't wait to see the change in growth! that will likely take several weeks and the bed that only has 3 weeks left might not show any change at all...

my research has been uncovering a lot of interesting stuff...apparently, even durring budding, the bulk of the growth is being done by the blue spectrum...that the red spectrum just hormonally triggers the plants to stop making roots, leaves, and stems, and start making buds...this means that they need reds to ripen for sure, but they also NEED blues to bud, probably why led lights always have several colors, and the ones that only contain red are the "flower boosters" only to be used in conjunction with regular leds that contain more than just red...

ive also been reading about PAR watts, it's interesting that we don't hear more about them...all we hear all day long is lumens, lumens, lumens...lumens measure the light in the green/yellow spectrum i believe, they measure what a human can see...unfortunately thats not what plants see, they see mostly blue, and red...so the PAR watts are basically a measurement of how many watts out of the total are being used to produce light SPECIFICALLY in the spectrum's plants see. a 400w hps wastes about 50% of the watts as heat, and about half it's light in the wrong spectrum's, so you end up with a par wattage around 100 to 120 watts for a 400w hps...metal halides waste just as much heat but they put a much higher percentage of their light out in the correct spectrum's, so metal halides today generally have higher par wattages...several sources made it seem like 15 to 20% more on average...and more par watts means more growth...the warm deluxe blub should aid in triggering the hormones needed to bud fully...and i think i'll see a better yeild and quality over hps....

i don't have the ability to do a side by side but i would like to do my part to test the work, that others have already done to prove metal halides superiority in all stages of growth...i have no doubt that it's true, as ive seen several side by sides and experiments during the last few weeks. when i am not typing on here or gardening, i'm usually just reading as much as possible about every subject that interests me...hours a day wasted on a dumb plant...

the more research i do in this topic the more it seems clear to me, the people arguing for hps are using old school reasoning, stating that hps has way more lumens that metal halide, which is true, but above i already described how lumens mean nothing at all too a plant...that or they say that buds need the red light to do all of their budding... as it also turns out, plants are still doing MOST of the work with blue spectrum light, and the reds are just triggers that help tell the plant fall is approaching...i have found HUNDREDS of references of one grower saying to another grower "plants need blue to veg and red to flower, mh in flower will kill your yeilds." basically incredibly simplified, no science in it whatsoever, it's fundamentally wrong and can be proven with math and science...but the worst part in my mind is that it's just generally accepted, like so many other thing in this community...people don't want to learn or question or test theories, they don't' want to lose thousands of dollars of pot just to settle an argument, and who could blame them eh? if i hadn't done any research into mh bulbs i might very well have never even thought about it, and just kept repeating the same thing as everybody else...most of the people saying these things to other growers have never done any research, tried for their selves, they literally have NO idea what they are talking about but because EVERYBODY just keeps repeating the same old wives tails without proof, it's accepted and continually recirculated.

now that i have done the legwork, learned a bit more about the science, i have the confidence to invest a lot of money into both the bulb(that i didn't need to replace till february)and the potential to lose future yeild...my issue isn't that people blindly accept every bit of "stoner wisdom" out there, as long as it has been around long enough, it's that people refuse to believe that any of that "stoner wisdom" could be wrong, that maybe those dudes that came up with the bulk of indoor growing lore, did the work 30 years ago when the bulbs were only meant to light streets and factories...these guys weren't scientists and botanists in a lab experimenting every variable to get the perfect ways to nurture this plant indoors...it was old stoners in their basements with books on tomato gardening and junk...it's no small wonder that most of the info they discovered back then is now completely obsolete and irrelevant...

i think this community would be a lot better off if more people realized that, more people questioned the supposed facts and tested them, so that we could find which of our practices help cannabis and wich hurt it...i think at the very least this place would be much better off if people stopped acting like this info is all written in a textbook somewhere...that it's infallible, many people act aggressively toward people trying to test new growing theory, it can't be right cause thats not what i read online right? this is sort of like the dark ages, once things are legal science will quickly find the true facts, and at that point most people wont care, having let their gardening junk collect dust while they buy hash oil from the dispensery...

well anyway, i'm all about testing those limits, hell look at my grow, it's not really conventional, over 100w per square foot, over 18 plants per square foot, 2 pots for over 80 plants, no veg whatsoever, nearly pure, branchy sativa's growing as perfect one branch sog plants, supposedly stretchy sativa's growing smaller than 99% of autogarbage...i think a lot of people wouldn't think that was possible... and now metal halide for flowering...i am constantly trying new things and taking educated risks with my ladies, but i believe it has served me very well so far and i don't intend to stop till legalization brings the scientific method and corporate/agricultural colleges money to test this stuff unequivocally...at that point they may not make it all public, proprietary growing practices and all, but i think a LOT more of this stuff will be found completely tested in botany textbooks, and teenagers wont be able to pretend they are growers just by spouting a bunch of old wives tales, they will actually have to do some real research, or be exposed for the posers they are...

i just checked out the link to that, those filters are pretty interesting, i bet that's the sort of thing that would be used to test that kind of thing in the future...or maybe legalization will be the end of wasteful, indoor pot growing...i guess the same sort of test could be done with led's...just try to flower a batch with nothing but red light, and see what happens without the blue that is supposed to be doing most of the work...lol i doubt any of us will ever do that...those pure red ufo's are still pretty expensive...based on everything ive read they wouldn't do very well...without the blue's your yeilds would hurt...however if it were possible to grow using only blue i think yeilds would be decent, but the buds would probably have issues ripening up at the end...

apparently even ed rosenthal swears by metal halide for both veg AND bloom, i guess him and his freinds ONLY use metal halide...another interesting note, he says the increased uv light from mh also adds to the trichome density...there is also an artical out there by dj short on the subject...DJ Short believes MH gives the plant more flavor and aroma. he was also quoted saying that if he could only have one type of light, it would be metal halide... i gotta say, i'm really excited! since i added the bulb to my cab, the left side batch will get 2-3 weeks of increased uv as per ed's reasoning...and as he said that this is especially noticeable the last 2 weeks before harvest, i may actually see this crop slightly whiter than usual, wich doesn't seem possible...i mean this stuff is WHITE when fully dry...i mean my last batch had a ton of purple in it, but you couldn't see it at all once it dried because the only thing you could see was a faint hint of green shining through white buds with red hairs...just a very very milky green color, contrasted by the withered pistils...i wasn't expecting any change on that side, i figured most of the benefits if any would happen the first month of budding and not the second but i can't wait to find out! now i am really wishing i took a few dry budshots before getting rid of it all last week...cause now it's gonna be harder to compare...although a large portion of my town is familiar with my work, despite not knowing it, and im sure if they come out more potent i will hear through the grape vine...

looking at these glittering elite pricess' everyday you might not think id get bored of it but man, every clone is the same, every round is basically the same...she has no more surprises for me...she is my first morman bride, but alas she is too familiar...i need some strange...maple leaf indica promises to be very strange, but untill then i am getting a new found boost in interest for my old durban countess...because this bulb may actually get something NEW out of her...it's more than a little kinky...kinda like buying a sex swing for your boring old wife of 40 years...lol

anyways here is a chart i found showing what kind of light pot specifically sees, underneath is a picture of my two boxes side by side, the left one is the hortilux eye hps and the sunmaster warm deluxe mh on the right...just looking at the info on the boxes it's plain to see that my mh matches the plants preferred spectrum much more than my hortilux, despite it being specifically designed to have more blue spectrum...evidently it's a lot easier to get red light from a metal halide than it is to get blue light from a high pressure sodium...this chart also seems to show that my warm deluxe metal halide is putting out almost as much red as my hortilux hps but much, much more blues...blues being the workhorse spectrum...im so excited i just can't peal my eyes from the endless amount of info on the ol' internet...

Equatorial Sativas prefer Metal Halide because they best emulate the spectrum that the plant would experience in its natural environment. North/South of the equator, a good fraction of the "day" the sun is shining at an angle through our atmosphere, causing an orange-ish HPS spectrum. At the equator, the Sun travels in a more straight overhead fashion, less affected by the natural tilt of our Earth. Because of this, not only does the equator not experience as "orange" a Sun as the one the rest of us are used to, but less UV rays are filtered by the atmosphere, because the photons have to travel a shorter distance through our atmosphere.

this makes so much sense to me that it's scary, ive often wondered why the most potent landraces are on the equator, and the farther north or south you go, the more hemp like they seem... ive heard industrial hemp originated from northern china, and most of the hempish stuff like ruderalis came from up in russia, ive also heard that a decent strain, left to breed in the wild, will tend to become more hempish, natural selection favors the hardy hemp plant over the delicate marijuana plant...however it seems that these hempish strains wouldn't perform well on the equator, besides basically budding from sprout, they wouldn't have enough trichomes to protect the plant from the extra uv light that the equator gets...so leaving a marijuana strain to fend for itself on the equator, probably the ones that would flourish most would be the ones with lots of trichomes to protect the seeds from uv, and likely the fastest growing plants that ignored the 12/12 schedule the most would end up flourishing...basically traits that wild sativas have...many wild sativa's completely ignore the light schedule for months and months...an adaptation to allow them to grow into big plants, despite the permanent 12-12 lighting schedule that would send most marijuana strains into budding right away, never getting more than 18 inches tall...

it's another testament to metal halides efficacy toward potent buds...they have decent uv production, hps has almost none...and as most believe, thc, and the globe shaped heads are adaptions to protect against uv light, the more uv light, the denser the trichomes would need to be to protect the seeds...of course thats an evolutionary process that takes hundreds and thousands of years, meaning your trichome coverage is genetically encoded in the plant, based on where the particular genetics evolved...however it would seem that the girls have a bit of flexability despite the genetic code, telling a plant to produce many trichs' perhaps with no uv light the plant is able to produce slightly less trichs, and with more uv light they could produce slightly more triches...a small bit of flexibility would seem evolutionarily prudent...it wouldn't be good for a plant to only make a small handful of seeds because it's sooooo worried about covering itself with trichomes, even though there is basically no need for them under an hps...it seems if a plant could put less energy into trichomes in an environment with less uv light, and make MORE seeds, it would survive better than one that ignored it's environment completely and survived completely on the genetic code it was given by it's parents...because it seems completely improbable to me that a plant would completely ignore it's environment, it seems completely improbable that once it does notice changes in it's environment, it can alter it's growth in almost ALL aspects to be most efficient at it's job...reproduction...so it would seem to me very improbable that if a plant like my cindy was all of the sudden presented with much much more uv light than it ever had before, that it would respond by slightly increasing the trichome density to try to react to it's new environment...

can you tell i have been off the buds for several days now? lol i'm all energy, i can't stop typing and i can't stop reading...i should have taken a tolerance break long ago, lol it was getting so ridiculous...

anyways i went and checked on my ladies, no difference yet obviously, it's only been 24 hours, but the buds are much easier to look at under the nice natural looking light...i mean really...you can see every little vein and trichome on every little girl under this light...i don't see why anybody would want to light their street with hps, cause metal halide just seems like such cleaner light. here are some pics i took with my light on, and my camera flash off....i think they are day 38-40 i'll figure it out later...i mean i got 2 weeks to figure out what the exact harvest day is, so it's no rush...

anyways i don't like the pics, using the metal halide instead of the flash seems to make my buds look more broccoli-like lol...from now on i think im gonna just take the pics before the light turns on like i've always done...that seems to show off the buds and triches the best...

In a past grow I had clones in my aero cloner that only had six inches worth of roots, while the majority of them had roots twelve to sixteen inches long. Because I had the room they all went into flower regardless.

The over all plant size after stretch was an important self learned lesson for me as far as amount of roots before flowering. But not just size, the fullness of the developing flower as well.

Fuck I can't wait to get back in the growing ring. :)

I may have missed it...but I don't think I read you mentioning anything about the increased heat in your cab with the MH as opposed to the HPS.

Not noticable? :tiphat:

Ohh man, I hate broccoli ! I personally consider it a useless vegetable :D

But your broccoli strain looks so damn tasty that I may change my preferences !

:good:
