If you get the base cation saturation ratio to 70+% Ca you wont get bud rot or pm...if you need to fertilize top dress or target feed you didn't do your soil right.

I have a question for some of you vets...how much water should big plants in 65 gallon smart pots get daily? Im hand watering and I have straw for mulch....Im giving my girls about five gallons of water per day...hand watered real nice and slow like with zero run off...this being my first time growing in pots this big or even plants this big for that matter, I don't what they should be taking down...They've never shown signs of over or under watering, they have just always chugged along..5 gallons a day doesnt seem like its enough, they are in a greenhouse which holds slightly higher humidity than open air, and theyve been getting dew on them every morning for the last couple weeks...what do you think? should I be giving them more? until I see signs of over watering? or ....just keep em happy know that I may not be at 100% maximum growth rate???

Your plants look very healthy zdubk7, Imho if your not seeing any signs of under watering you are probably doing something right. You could experiment with 7 or 8 gallons and see if you do end up with some run off.

Great looking plants everyone.

Applied Mycostop today via a sprayer as Tom's directions.

"For Mycostop, I stir a 5g pack into 1/2 gallon of water, let rest for 30min, stir again, then mix that solution into about 12 gallons of water in the sprayer.
Soil surface spray about 1 gallon of that per large container (so a 5gram pack does about 12 large containers), then water-in to a depth of about 2 inches or so. -T"

Planning on re-applying once more, although I am wondering if its ok to just add the Mycostop into my normal fertigation tank with my earth juice and kelp? Would leave out the molasses so I don't feed the bacteria more.

Anyone know why this might not be a good idea?

Thanks,
Mr^^

are any of you fellow tree growers using actinovate or a similar product for a fungus prevention? how do you guys deal with that issue? Ive defoliated for better air circulation and bought some actinovate as a preventative measure...any other good ideas?

AgSil 16 at 2 grams per gallon foliar sprayed will prevent PM. AgSil is K Silicate. Do not pH it down...spray it at whatever pH it comes out at. Every 2-3 wks will do the trick.

Ideally the base saturation of Ca is better...but to late for that. KSil will get you through the year.

I just sprayed everything down with actinovate at 1/2 tsp per gallon...just as a preventative measure..everything looks good..Im going to up the water to about 7 gals a day for the next couple days and see how they respond. thanks for the advice folks. have a great day everybody! If your not livin, your dying, there is no in-between.

I have a soil related question. I was thinking of using a "super soil" type recipe like you guys are using but instead of paying all the $$ for the base like roots organic I was thinking of going down to the river and loading up that dark rich looking sandy top soil then adding all the amendment like blood mill, bone mill, guano and so on. I cant really afford the high dollar bagged soil so would this work for giants like you guys grow?

So you telling me you don't feed or spray anything all season long? Would love to see that soil recipe.

im sure he does some sort of foliar spray for vegetation. maybe a compost tea with silica solution or something..? but i think what hes getting at is if you NEED to feed that means you were lacking in the nutrient dept. of your soil mix or something along those lines.. a better clarification would certainly help though:)

Yes that's right I do not fertigate them with anything... I just pull water from the river and turn valves. I do have a heavy foliar spray routine but its mostly different forms of Calcium Carbonate and a little K Mag every so often...And I'm now done spraying...This year I experimented with Pure Protein Dry 15-1-1 and really liked the results when I gave my garden the same application program that I did Calcium 25. Bless.

If you read the info that comes with the MycoStop you'll see Tom's directions are just 1 of the ways that Verdera recommends you apply MycoStop. They also say that throwing it right in to the Tank will work too. The point is contact to the root zone. I like to spray it on the top , make a paste and paint the stem that's diseased...The spot treat seems like it'd deliver more spores to the sick area.

These are freeze dried spores that you're reactivating..If you put molasses in your water or whatever other Sugar source it wont be a problem because nothing is really spending enough time in the tank to propagate / culture out...Bless.

Thanks Veg, appreciate it.

I should have started a preventative use of it earlier in the season. Everything has been so healthy, I decided not to. Then out of the blue, had a lower branch begin to die from fusarium wilt. So now I am scrambling to prevent any significant loss.

Not sure if its native, or where it comes from; but certain genetics that are prone to it, seem to get it in my garden. I am sure my heavy hand with the water doesn't help.

Mr^^
