Agreed. English is on its way to becoming a language of abbreviations and slang.

English as a language has always evolved, and always people think it's being ruined by the new slang and terminology that arises. its just a sign that you're getting old ;)

personally, on an informal forum such as IC, i don't think it's particularly important as long as you are making yourself understood.

Ok, so there are two camps of thought. One says baloney the other says its the bees knees. I've done some experimenting of my own over the years and I will agree that it is dependent on what your growing. Even down to the phenotype. Personally I've always done several runs before I start to tool around with parameters. You need to know your plant before you start messing with "mother nature". My last grow was high pressure aero done in vertical 55 gallon plastic drums. Sealed room, co2, multi ton split a/c, hps, mh, yada yada bing bing bang bang. You get the picture. I was growing trees from fresh rooted aero clones that got a 24 hour dark period with straight water, no nutes for the last 12 hours, before going into 12/12 for flowering. Veg time was not needed because the plants would just grow too danged tall if vegged at all. I'm sure a a day or two of veg in the drums wouldn't have been completely detrimental but I felt it was unneeded. I was maxing my space with the straight to flower method. I noticed my root growth was out of this world. You know I just realized that this post has very little to do with the OPs question. However I'm a very slow typer so I'm not deleting this post. Perhaps if we actually get a serious discussion/not debate on the subject I'll chime in with my knowledge in a more coherent and comprehensible manner. Too many times have I seen someone ask a question or propose a method only to be jumped on by the masses and their theories/practices be instantly discredited. I've put way too much time into my craft to have it be pissed on. Not to mention I don't have pictures, or a post count, or rows of green squares to show, so I'll be immediately discredited regardless.

I have heard time and time again.... If you want good information on growing, don't get it from a MJ site. Get it from botany sites. Too many unsupported and undocumented methods. Next thing you know, some poor newb has his plants sitting in hydrochloric acid because he heard it increases bud sites.......

Some of the greenest thumbs I've seen have belonged to the hands of cannabis cultivators. The thing is that there are a lot of kiddos that post on these sites compared to legal ones. A lot of misinformation is out there. I for one have always believed in trial and error. Blind faith is just plain ignorant. If an idea intrigues you then try it out. It took me years of trial and error before I really knew anything. Unfortunately for me all my years of growing wound up in the hands of a joint dea/state police task force. They may have taken my work but they will never take my knowledge. Overgrow the world brothers and sisters.

yet he written a post that must of took about 10 mins of he's life
wrote* hehehe believe it or not some of us like to read and write, we like to learn and share with others...we don't do the absolute minimum, like one broken sentence, where you couldn't bother to figure out basic grammar or even click on those red underlined words and hit the "spellcheck" button...i guess that's too much work huh? you deserve our respect and we owe you a well written reply just because you have an internet connection and spent 12 seconds pounding out that illegible garbage?

anyways... I'll have to look back to be sure but i think this is the fourth day since they got 24 hours of dark, so far i would guess they have another 4 days before they start budding, so I'm already guessing i was right and this doesn't do anything...the clones from this mom ALWAYS flower at 8 days 12-12 so unless it magically starts budding tomorrow i don't think anythings gonna change...of course I'll write back on day 8 but I've seen my clones spring into flowering a million times, id bet my whole grow cab they will be flowering day 8, like usual, and not today or tomorrow (days 4-5) like the myth claimed...

so ya, still coming back to confirm in a few days, but I'm pretty sure this is another moronic stoner tale... i wasn't surprised at all, because of the sheer amount of dumb theories, myths, and tales about this black market and this plant that most smokers don't understand... it would make a good book, detailing all the retarded things people did and said about pot during prohibition...what do you expect i guess when over a third of the tokers in the US are under 18...

For your particular strain and phenotypes. Yes. Good call.

Leaving plants in darkness for an extended period time defiantly helps speed the transition into flowering and minimize stretching.

In nature the sun def doesn't turn off for a few days but that's the point of growing indoors, we control the environment, so we can manipulate it.

In nature the days never go from 24/0 to 12/12 or 18/6 to 12/12 from one day to the next either

I use to do this when I had the chance. Now the room stays 12/12 since it is perpetual.. I found it worked on some and didn't make a difference on others. But on the ones it did work it sure made a difference.

well i have finished my experiment, budding started day 8-9, same as always, if not a tiny bit behind, at best the only thing the 24 hour dark period did was weaken my clones a bit, because i had a tiny bit of light bleaching on them which i had never had before...

so the 24 hour thing was not only a hassle, it did nothing good for my clones, and maybe even weakened them a bit...this is yet another dumb ass stoner myth...and the sad thing is it's probably been proven wrong hundreds of times online but i didn't bother to do a search, now i know for sure, but this dumb myth has been around forever, and the dumbest myths always seem to be pushed by the poser growers on this site, which are starting to outnumber the actual growers with a surprising speed...i remember back in the og days information was legit, people who saw the forums then and looked at the level of discussion on weed boards now see things are starting to go backwards, from all the illegitimate people on these sites pretending to be growers and spreading stupid myths that they heard from their homeboys on the block...i suppose it's happening on all forums of all subjects, just a byproduct of the rapid growth in popularity of the internet recently, thanks to social network websites...i just wish there were a way for legit growers to submit a photo of their grow with a note stating their screen name, and get certified by icmag, so people would know who is speaking from experience and who is talking out of their asses about things they have only read about or heard about from friends to seem cool...

YMMV... Did it for many years running the black.. The ones going straight 12/12 always lagged behind. Didn't notice a difference with the Indicas tho.

Lots of people with more experience (with a lot more strain and pheno types) have already stated that.... IT DEPENDS ON THE PHENO AND STRAIN YOU'RE RUNNING.

This is a lame thread now. Everything that needs to be posted for good info... has already been posted. So has the dumb stoner info that doesn't count. You figure out which is which folks.

seriously

you started a thread about how people who use fabric conditioner make you physically sick

please dude. sort your own messed up life out before dispensing advice to others, as the advice from someone who rants on about fabric conditioner so much is going to be questionable???

I tried once with some sour D, all I noticed is that the moisture built up a lot more when I opened the cab after the dark period, it was moist on the leaves.

I think i even got hit with PM after that, but I'm not saying 24 hours dark, will give you PM.

Just saying, I tried it, and that's what I noticed.

@ lilguy. When you the black in your last post were you talk in about the dark period or a strain.

In Florida they have a local strain called black haze that people call the black

don't give the plants 24 hours of dark. where in nature do you see that? nowhere.

the best you can do is to start lowering the light hours progressively...

lets say, if you are on 16/8, then go to 14/10 for a week, then to 12/12 for a month and then 10/22 for the rest of the cycle...

:)
