Marijuana is just the vehicle. They'll use it as proxy to reveal what sort of character the Martin boy was. He'll be cast as a rebellious adolescent with tendencies toward violence and disrespect.

People will say none of what he did in the past is neither here nor there. However, if he did happen to be a confrontational person...it has to be a thing taken into account as we connect the dots to the final outcome of that evening.

Would a respectful, non-aggressive kid, never involved in any sort of violent altercation...been physically confrontational?

Putting that aside for a moment...I now have to weigh the character of the parents. On this, I'm short on benefit of the doubt as I've seen people do it before. They lose a relative...make a big public showing of being heart broken and distraught...all the while, with dollar signs on the brain.

The Martins had ample time to seek justice...but they didn't. Only when the possibility of exploitation was at hand, did they suddenly become righteous parents in want of justice aka a pay day.

For now, I don't want to believe it. But again...I've seen people do it before. And if true...all sympathies for the Martins will be used up the minute they cash in.

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — The mother of slain Florida teenager Trayvon Martin has filed papers seeking to trademark two slogans based on his name.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filings by Sybrina Fulton are for the sayings "I Am Trayvon" and "Justice For Trayvon." The applications were filed last week.

The applications say the trademarks could be used for such things as DVDs and CDs. Attorneys who filed the papers did not immediately respond Monday to emails seeking comment.

I just think the whole thing is a distraction from the crime. who really gives two fucks if they make money or not. This whole nation was built on profiting from death of the Native Americans. White girlfriend was also pulled(same town) by cops for doing nothing... shined flashlights in her son's eyes, etc. She's white and so is her son. Lets me agree with you that I suspect that under the law this is some kind of murder, perhaps a lesser charge of manslaughter.

However, it's unclear what started the violence. I imagine if I were Travon and someone pulled a gun on me at close range I'd run assholes and elbows. But right now we don't know when, and why, the gun was introduced or if it was how Travon reacted.

This Orlando Sentinel article corroborates Zimmerman's account that he was attacked but doesn't give actual witnesses or quotes from the eyewitnesses the police must claim exist. Wonder if they are being kept quiet for now?

I'm of the belief a fight started- could have been that Travon did initiate it- but that at the time Travon was shot Zimmerman was no longer threatened enough to use deadly force. But I can't prove that. If there really were eyewitnesses that saw Travon attack Zimmerman then we should also, eventually, hear testimony they were watching at the time the fatal shot was fired. That's what I'm waiting for. The lady that says she heard it happen is compelling and sort of substantiates my earlier belief that Travon didn't have to die, that Zimmerman probably was angry after the assault. But I can't prove that and realize it is possible that Zimmerman was acting in pure self defense, though I tend to doubt it.

I also don't believe Zimmerman used a racial slur as reported and that it's not clear from the 911 he did. Perhaps you have a link to a recording that is actually clear? So far I have not listened to one that would allow me to conclude Zimmerman said anything "racial".

To me this is all being blown way out of proportion considering this country's tolerance of racist groups like the Black Panthers and La Raza.

I agree with you there are a lot of prejudice blacks, not racist because to be a racist means you have power. BUT I disagree that there are more "racist" blacks than white, it's just that the racist blacks are in your face about it and the whites are more subtle about it and stab you in the back which is just as bad. Both groups need to to talk to each other as to why we feel the way we do and deal with our issues then see a common connection to establish peace or another group can use it to tear this country down by dividing us because a house divide will soon fall and our house is starting to crumble. This is the time we come together and fix it or else we can forget being a country that we all hoped to see when we were younger. This is why it's important for the subcultures to do this because the squares are definitely not going to do it because they are too scared. It's up to US to try to fix this problem

I would probably not be searched in NYC because I wouldn't look like I was committing any crime. Absent any real statistics or facts about a significant amount of these supposed unwarranted searches I'd say this is just a theory you have. If you could prove to me unwarranted searches were largely by white cops vs blacks/hispanics we might be on to something. But I would suggest that if we look at the percentage of white/black/hispanic police it's pretty fairly distributed. Are you suggesting black/hispanic cops don't search blacks and Hispanics? Further, are you suggesting black/hispanic cops don't search white people?

Perhaps you're confusing racism with prison lobbies that seem to force the state's hands to incarcerate people?
