hmmm... I am also "pro gun" and intending to do my first duck hunt next winter.

on the other hand I can see no problem with the government limiting the type of firearm available to the everyday citizen. You probably believe this too. For example, you probably agree it should not be permitted to walk around with a machine gun.

what about handguns then? why not ban them altogether except for those able to demonstrate need (police, security, armored car drivers, etc...).

I would definitely leave neighborhood watch off the list. If neighborhood watch wants to carry they should have to keep it in plain site, and a minimum length requirement should be in effect. then let communities decide if it's really appropriate to have armed vigilantes roaming the streets.
do you actually believe the 2nd is about hunting or protection from burglars?

I like the idea of the watchman having to carry his gun in the open. It deters the crime in the first place.

The government can not limit the firearms of the people. The purpose of the second amendment is literally to give the people equal fire power as the government to prevent tyrannical rule like we have now almost.

do we believe zimmerman is entitled to the presumption of innocence?

or because he may have said "coon" is he no longer entitled to that presumption?
(even the "justice for trayvon" site says "possibly used a racial slur")

Yes Zimmerman should get a trial of his peers. He should be charged with murder one and be given the chance to defend himself. They should not peruse the hate crime thing. Murder is murder, motive does not matter when you talk about sentencing for murder 1.

1. The folks that feel this is just "the media" stirring things up, and we cannot trust anything that is being reported, thus cannot and should not make any judgements regarding this case.....:moon:

you have not a clue

2. The folks that don't think race was an absolute factor in this case are either consciously or unconsciously choosing to not accept the reality of the WORLD at large.

3. Ultimately, I believe we need to face the fact that the real cause of Trayvon's death was a handgun. If Zimmerman had not been armed with a handgun, it is far more likely that Trayvon would be alive right now. The gun industry in this country is the true master of misinformation and mass paranoia.

i am sure #3 lots of folks gonna disagree with, but it does not change the truth value.

The government does limit the firearms of the people. Your second sentence is a stretch at best, when the Government wants, it puts its thumb down on whatever individual or group, guns be damned. The Branch Davidians had alot of guns, heck even automatic weapons and they got snuffed quickly. Slightly further back in history you can look at the events of MOVE in Philadelphia. They had a fortified house and lots of guns too. What happened to them? The government (the local boys this time) dropped a bomb from a helicopter on them and burned out a whole city block.

Arrest:

- Jeb Bush for signing the 'Stand your Ground' Law
- The Florida legislators who voted for the law
- The NRA **** who authored it and is in the signing photos
- The police chief who didn't arrest Zimmerman

Put them on trial for being accomplices to murder, alongside Zimmerman.

So many stupid sheep on this forum. - same ones over and over. Marijuana may indeed have side effects - destroys critical thinking skills and independent logic forming causation ability.

I'm not supporting Zimmerman, but throwing around people's phone number & information on the internet is a bad move for everyone. It could easily be you next, especially with the big brother egonauts in the White House and their most recent legislation. So much for being righteous karma warriors.

The scary part is, how easily dumbass liberals can be co-opted into dogmatic functions for the state. You got Obama elected, and he's usurped your rights beyond the pale. "Social media" is now nothing but a euphemism for a hive mind - and it's executed quite efficiently from mouthpieces like scumbag Spike Lee et al.

Flame suit is on. You people are just as disgusting as Zimmerman appears to be.

Oh I know they do. I was just quoting the original intent of the founding father. however. there is no way they could predict atom bombs and ak-47's, and what not.

nobody needs an automatic weapon in a city during peacetime. Even your basic infantry solider will be better off with semi auto during war time, which is why that is what they use most of the time.

how about the suspicious kid he killed

wasn't he innocent until proven guilty?

no he was executed without a judge or jury without even the courtesy of an investigation from the police

the stand your ground was not applicable since he was an antagonize and he was told by police to cease and desist

you dont need to be a karma warrior to get this one

you just have to be fucking human

worse of all the defacto fuck the police paranoid grower personality has no problem when a private citizen acts above the law because ??

because ??

ohh because you have a gun and can see some black "kid" creeping as a threat and put yourselves in the same scenario?

unless you have a another good reason to want to defend Zimmerman id love to hear it

i still after 15 pages wanna hear why it offends anyone that the potential motivation just might be racist

the only way i can figure it offends you, the use of the racist tag, is if in your mind there is no such thing as a potentially innocent black kid and this INNOCENT guy zimmerman is being railroaded because he did what even the police aren't allowed to do

even if your pro gun rights, how does this case further your goals?

great publicity for who?

funny how racist people take the high road when its convenient

no calling people a coon and ignoring police and shooting them in cold blood doesnt make you racist it makes you a racist murderer

motive matters because a hate crimes are federal. it's a way to hold people accountable when local authorities can't.

the 2nd amendment actually gives context and qualifies itself:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
the way I read this, there is a collective right to bear arms for the purpose of maintaining a militia. This also implies whoever is in charge of the militia has the right to control the people's armory, no?

I don't really think you believe in unlimited rights to bear arms. what about weaponized pathogens? nukes? are they covered by the 2nd amendment as you read it?

I don't read an unlimited right for each individual to keep and bear whatever arms he chooses in any context he chooses. For instance a community should be able to decide if it wants neighborhood watch captains to pack heat... that includes bazookas

a community should also be able to decide the national guard is good enough for them, and that it's safer not to arm civilians. in very densely populated areas, this becomes more and more practical and important.

the sensible way to read the 2nd amendment is that it means the government can not arbitrarily deny you the right to bear arms. There has to be a valid public safety reason, and someone who NEEDS to carry should be able to challenge and get the system to make an exception.

Your interpretation not an interpretation it is just plain wrong. It does not take into account the entire second part of the second amendment.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state
part 1. right to a militia.

then there is a COMMA.
com·ma/ˈkämə/
Noun:
A punctuation mark (,) indicating a pause between parts of a sentence. It is also used to separate items in a list and to mark the place...
A minute interval or difference of pitch.
this means two separate thing in a list in one sentence. anti gun moron Liberals love to use the subtleties of the English language to trick people into giving up their freedom.

The reason it is stupid to let a government disarm you was made clear by Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. All disarmed the people before genocide. as a result of giving up there defense literally hundreds of millions of people were massacred. It turned out to be way bloodier than standing up for their selves,

then part two.

, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Separate from the first part this means the individual may also bear arms.

It does not limit who, what, where, or when.

I don't really think you believe in unlimited rights to bear arms. what about weaponized pathogens? nukes? are they covered by the 2nd amendment as you read it?

Nobody on earth period should have nukes, bio weapons, or and wmd of that sort. They are abominations of science.

The Pandora's box has been opened.

ok this is super good. I think you should watch it. it will help you understand my view point a little I hope

he was not afforded such protections sadly.
the constitution does not protect you from me it protects you from government.
because zimmerman is a despicable person he violated the "kid's" human rights by killing him.
zimmerman is afforded protection he did not afford treyvon because the protection is not from me but from government.

the stand your ground was not applicable since he was an antagonize and he was told by police to cease and desist
i still can't figure out why people keep saying the SYG law is evil. it has nothing to do with this case.

you dont need to be a karma warrior to get this one

you just have to be fucking human
agreed
zimmerman should be arrested if the police can find probable cause to do so and swear oaths of affermation to a sworn justice and warrants issue.

worse of all the defacto fuck the police paranoid grower personality has no problem when a private citizen acts above the law because ??
you will have to look for someone else with a fuck the cops attitude.
i have received more negs defending cops than anything else.

ohh because you have a gun and can see some black "kid" creeping as a threat and put yourselves in the same scenario?
no because i believe we are a nation of laws.
i never "defended" zimmerman.
i pointed out he has the RIGHT to presumption of innocence until PROVEN BEYOND ANY REASONABLE DOUBT that he is guilty.

unless you have a another good reason to want to defend Zimmerman id love to hear it
never defended him.

don't know what to think about this thread. the whole event stinks of incomplete reporting. how would the cops not arrest Zimmer if he didnt have clear evidence that he used his weapon in self defense? it will be interesting to find out what the whole story is. on the face of it, it does seem Zimmer went out of his way to confront this young man Trevon. on the other hand a wound to the back of the head would possibly explain why the cops didnt arrest Zimmer. i really don't know what to think, but i do believe the truth will come out sooner or later.

the trouble i see with total gun control is that in the end only the law abiding will give up their weapons, while the criminals will now have free rain knowing they will not be confronted by armed citizens when they break in some where or rob some place. in an ideal society both Trevon and Zimmer would have been armed, there by both would have gone at the issue with more respectful diplomacy.

nothing makes for a polite society like an armed society. a free man must be able to own a weapon for legitimate uses, but also just as skill to be honed. the important thing is that people that have guns are properly trained in their use imo. look at Switzerland, nearly every single citizen has his army weapon at home with packs of ammo ready. there is hardly any gun crime in Switzerland.

so if i see this case being used to try and ban, restrict or otherwise make it harder to own legal guns, i'll be even more suspicious that we were not told the whole story about this tragic event.

edited to add: after reading again i have to say, in an ideal situation both parties would have been unarmed. alas we don't live in an ideal world.

young kids dress that way. now. It is stupid, but that is the style.

These kids are millionaire skiers that own this gangtsa style clothing company and look how many felonies they commit while acting gansta in there blog video. firing their gun out the window and shit like idiots. They are not even looked at twice. Why because they are white.

I can see why some people are for gun control. They are not crazy. I just have a different opinion.

and G basically covered it here

not mention
They're trained in guerrilla style warfare and being able to operate independently of a central command. They have underground tunnels and bunkers throughout their mountains... I once had a copy of their military manuals... they have their act together.

Switzerland is what america is meant to be. Educated, armed, culturally rich, monetarily wealthy, and fiercely independent.

There is no way this B.S. would ever happen in Switzerland. People are just not that dumb there. The kids speak 5 different languages.

As the first definition in your quote says, a comma is often used to indicate a pause in a sentence. As in every sentence in this paragraph, the comma separates the first qualifying statement or preface from the following point that has been qualified. Using this interpretation of the one sentence that makes up the second amendment, the intent of the second amendment was to guarantee that the colonies could muster enough armed men to create a fighting force since there was no standing army outside of wartime.

That is a major reason why we've had a controversy over this. And before anybody goes and calls this liberal an anti gun moron, you should know that I was raised with and own firearms.

The Swiss don't carry those weapons around. They are kept in the closet waiting for a military conflict.

"An armed society is a polite society." Why do I think of Iraq when reading this?

I always find it amusing when people equate multilingual Europeans with being sophisticated and intelligent, and monolingual Americans with being uncultured and ignorant. If you look at the size of European countries, and thus the resultant language distributions, many of them are smaller than counties in California. If there is no one within a 1000 miles in any direction that speaks a different language, there is not only no need to become multilingual but no opportunity to practice. On the other hand, if you live where traveling a distance that we would consider normal for a large shopping trip takes you through 5 different countries, guess what the result is?
