now im guessing the hash made from fresh frozen trim will be way more sticky . I always use a pressing screen for taking water out from hash and i always dry hash on cardboard. can i stil do these techniques or do i can to change because i might be working with a more sticky hash because it will be fresh hash ...if i do have to change please advise on the best way to handle fresh hash made from fresh frozen plant trim...

Faint

I do the exact same thing with dry trim, fresh unfrozen, fresh frozen, cured flowers...all the same maneuvers will work just fine.

that is also true. I personally have never made dry ice hash, i would like to give it a shot next harvest for sure though. I have seen a lot of people that do different grades of the dry ice hash. They either use different micron bags, or just pay attention to color. As soon as whats coming out starts to look more green then gold, switch to another spot and shake there. That way you have a nice, melty batch for personals, and a second grade batch for donations, parties, medibles, whatever you see fit!

I picked up a Kanga can, will be giving it a shot here pretty soon...

Hash,

What's the benefit of distilled water?

well R.O. water really is what you want. it has no minerals so it does not effect taste and burn quality. depends where you live though my tap water ppm is 50, and I use 20 gallon bags so I dont worry about it. however some places have water ppm of like 600. that is when is makes a difference.

It will definitely be more sticky. Use a pyrex plate to dry it.

Should I chop my fresh trim before putting it in to a freezer? I just put lot of whole leaves in carrier bag to freezer.

Gentle, gentle, gentle ... trichs become brittle when frozen. Also when freezing your material make sure it's in a seal zip lock or rubber maid container with a sealed lid. I use a vac sealer, but don't suck all the air out to crush the material. If ice crystals start to form on the material, there will be degradation of the trichs. Try to freeze for at least three days in a very cold freezer. The sooner you use the trim after freezing the better. The longest I've let my trim sit in the freezer has been 3 months, try not to let it go that long though. Remember the weight of this wet trim is a lot more that dry, so you'll need a lot more, but the hash is amazing! I'd recommend using all frozen nug, your mind will be blown ... he, he, he

Pressing screen is an inadequate name for the screen. Any pressure applied to the hash with this screen, will trap water inside. I put the screen on a dish towel and allow the water to wick out that way, until I am finished pulling the bags. Then the hash is dry enough to work with. Through a steel sieve onto cardboard, makes very nice powder. Peace GS

I agree completely, but I also think this could work to your advantage if you have a strain that is frosty as hell.

Newd

for sure but i recently red that some strains have trics harder to separate from vegetal material, so its depends on various sides of what your using & how your making it

last week i made 2 diferents extracts :
- one bubble with the º72 & º26 with trims and little buds from outside
- a little rock of h with the dust of the grinder, from out and in weed, well i was stunned by the quality but almost by the aroma of this h, i've kept it in my pocket all day and it is a nice one too

Peace,
B

Do you let the trim dry a little or you put it directly in the freezer?

Directly in the freezer, but it can't have water standing on the material, or it will cover the trichomes in ice.

A question for those talking about freezing the buds before extracting. Have you guys ever tested that with dry ice extractions as well? I mean don't you think the dry ice gets it pretty damn cold? Or would it be best to freeze the trim first then do the dry ice? I just see it as doing the same thing twice but the second actually getting it REALLY COLD so why do the first?

on dry ice extractions not bubble water...

There's a nice thread regarding dry ice a few pages back...

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=234882

Bubbleman sums it up:

i think people are missing the point that in water extraction.. its the WATER that acts as a transfer chamber and allows you to isolate just the heads... why is this.. because everything floats while the heads sinks.. remove the water and EVERYTHING sinks.. i would say dry ice hash on average is 75% contaminant.. maybe higher.. where as bubble is generaly 90 to 98% gland heads..
check it out with a microscope.. sure you get more.. but more of what? its certainly not glandular heads..

Bubble man

I suppose one could use dry ice if he is in a hurry or doesn't have time to properly freeze the material before a wash. It should certainly do the trick.

it is almost zero ppm. where as in tap in some places is is upwards of 750 ppm. It makes it taste and smoke better because there is no chlorine and minerals in it. It is not required of course, and some will never be able to tell the difference but a refined pallet can.

We have very low chlorine, and PPM 225. I use tap to rinse contaniments and then distilled for the final rinse. What do you think?
