It is a very sad day for skiers and snowboarders as we have just learned that free skiing champion, Sarah Burke has passed away after being hospitalized January 10th 2012. A horrible fall in the Halfpipe at Park City lead to a brain injury which had kept her in a coma. Very little has been said other than that she has passed away but we would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends, and everyone else in the sporting world. Her Family released the following statement:

“The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the international outpouring of support they have received from all the people Sarah touched.”

ABC News released this info on Sarah’s injury:

Hospital officials say Burke sustained severe irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest. As a result, doctors say Burke passed away “peacefully surrounded by those she loved.” ABC News

Sarah was a great competitor, an inspiration and an amazing person. She will be deeply missed.

That spot has lift access. The lift is on the other side. A run wraps around the back side of it, and I cut through at that spot and took the pic where I meet back up with the run. After that there is at least another 1500 vertical feet of tree skiing, groomers or powder runs along the top of a huge steep ridge. :D

This is the worst season ever...

My local hill in the former Great White North is taking a beating. They didn't open for Xmas and had made a bit of snow only to have it melt away. I didn't get out until the 2nd week of Jan and have only gone 5 times. Normally I get out 30+ days and will likely not break even on the season's pass this year.

The weather is insane. We get a bit of snow and then it melts away. I ski'd yesterday on a whopping 5cm of fresh snow. I've been skiing the unopened runs under natural conditions. The main hill is like a icy luge run.

I'm going out to Big White in Kelowna at the end of March. Can anyone give me a snow report?
