Absolute Amber from Banana Silver Ladyboys

it may not be terpene bubbles, but they sure aint butane bubbles, thats what people really go on about often and are full of shit about.i dont know for sure they are terpene bubbles, but i DO KNOW that if you evaporate most of the bubbles out of a plate of butane extract, you lose a lot of the flavor component. so either some or all the bubbles are terpenes offgassing, or they offgass as a vapor with no bubble formation. that seems unlikely.

I know this is dated as hell, but i just read it... How does that seem unlikely?

I have some questions on this process.

1. What is the best type of extractor material to use? Stainless steel, Glass, Plastic?

2. In the USA, what can I buy in stores that will be safe to use to hold my trim and butane? What size bottle and for how much butane?

3. How long do I put the butane can into the freezer and is this dangerous?

4. Do I spray the butane into the extractor bottle and let it sit for 30 minutes? What are the benefits or problms if you let it sit for longer or for shorter?

5. When I pour the butane into the coffee pot, do i use a filter or is the filter for after I add ethenol?

6. How long do I let the ethanol / BHO mixture sit in the freezer for?

7. What is the scum or residue left behind in the wash in the filter? Was that suff bad and was it in my BHO before I turned it to Amber Glass?

8. Where does the residue get left at the end? In the filter? Can you see the residue when you put the ethonal solution in the freezer? What does putting the ethonol solution in the freezer do?

I want to learn more so dont get me wrong. My friend who has a lot of experience says his BHO turns to glass when it dries out. I keep trying to tell him that is not Absoulte Amber and he says it is. I dont believe him but this is what he said. He said that when you use 5x filtered butane and top buds, your BHO turns to glass when dried. He said to leave your bud in butane liquid for 30 minutes is bad because your grabbing other things from the weed that you dont want. He said that this is what you are taking out with the ethonol. Is this true? He said if you put his BHO in ethonol there will be nothing left except the contaminants that the 96% ethonol is going to leave behind. He said that 96% ethonol has contaminants in it already. What can anyone say about this? I just want to learn more.

Your friend don't know shit. I've followed this thread completely and have made amber to drool over. 95% ethanol is nothing but alcohol and water. It seems to me that a tube extraction is faster and easier(maybe because I'm used to it) but the thermos grabs less waxes and unwanted stuff even at an hour and half soak time. If I only listen to my friends I would have nasty undrpurged budder.

i dont see anyone leaving the buds or trim in the butane for longer then a few minutes at most. but you can just spray the butane through a tube and do the normal evaporation in hot water bath, then before it's totally finished purging the butane you collect it all with a swig of ethanol, this allows you to do the winterization and also makes the purging of the last bit of butane easier, as it goes out with the ethanol as it evaporates. i don't think anyone leaves their buds/trim in butane for 30 mins, although if they do it would have to be in a thermos in the freezer. else that tane will be evaporating. but in that part i would agree that 30 mins in butane seems too long. the whole winterization step is really not needed to get shatter with the right strain of buds, that's also correct.

Thanks for the responses guys! Does anyone know more specificss like what is the ethonol process for? What are you extracting out with the ethonol specifically. What is the residue left behind when you add the ethonol? If anyone knows the specifics, can they please answer these questions please:

I just want scientific facts and not opinions. Heres something that I found that talks about contaminants in 96% Ethanol taken from:
http://inorganicventures.com/tech/advice/chemical-stability/contaminants-of-ethanol-in-hdpe

I just want to know the truth so i dont hurt myself or anyone else.

"Contaminants of Ethanol in HDPE

Advice by Paul Gaines, Ph.D.
Robert and his associates were working on a health problem that he assumed was caused by an unidentified contaminant in ethanol. The ethanol was 96%, shipped in 50 gallon HDPE barrels, and then diluted with water to 36% for drinking. Robert suggested a possible source for a toxic contaminant might be a substance in the polyethylene matrix. He asked Paul for any suggestions of what substances present in HDPE could be leached out by 96% ethanol.

Dear Robert,

Hopefully the following will be of help in your investigation:

1) Trace metals from the catalyst residue. HDPE is prepared by a catalytic process where the catalyst is incorporated (entrapped) in the final product. The catalyst is typically an alumina or alumina/silica based catalyst with a mixture of Ti, and Mg chlorides (Ziegler-Natta type catalyst) plus other elements. Therefore look for trace metals such as Si, Al, Ti, Mg, Cr, Zn, Fe, etc. ICP-OES is a good technique to use for both qualitative and quantitative purposes.

2) If the drum has a 'color' then a dye or pigment is used. Take a sample of the drum HDPE and ash it in a Pt crucible by first igniting the HDPE with a propane flame and then taking the ash up to 500 °C in a muffle furnace. If there is no ash then a dye is the color agent. The presence of an ash that has the color of the drum is an indication of a pigment. In the case of a pigment the use of EDXRF can identify the elemental components and indicate the pigment used. Many pigments contain toxic elements such as As, Pb, Sb, and Cd. If an organic dye is used then extraction of the HDPE with a more non-polar solvent (such as methylene chloride) and identification by molecular spectroscopy (UV/VIS, IR and NMR) is adequate for identification (i.e., current data bases may allow for identification by IR alone).

In summary, catalyst residues and certain inorganic pigments should be of concern. Please note that contaminants do not have to be soluble, i.e., biological systems can be poisoned by particulate matter when ingested as could be the case with inorganic pigments and catalyst residuals. Organic dyes may have long term health problems but are less likely to be a problem."

All of my everclear comes in glass bottles, I have never seen everclear in a hdpe container or a ldpe container. And not to mention they were drinking it. Your whole post is off topic. People buying ethanol in 50 gallon drums and then watering it down to drink........wow. I only drink hard liquor and that's disgusting!

If you had looked at the beginning of this thread you will see that jump is leaving them in for a lot longer, by page ten he was leaving it in for an hour and 15 minutes, but I could swear that I read some where in here that he goes for an hour and a half. If you only leave it in a few minutes you don't get much of the good stuff. 30 min is not long enough and you don't need to keep it in a freezer, the thermos keeps it cold and liquid. I myself have left a thermos full of butane out for longer than 90 min in 70 degree weather with not much loss at all.

Ok cool! You sound like you know some things. Do you know if letting yout butane and plant material sit for hours grabs other things from the plant also or does it just grab the good stuff?

What is the substance that the ethanol leaves behind besides the block of Amber Glass?

I'm reading the website for http://www.pharmco-prod.com. They provide the results of all kinds of tests. Anyone use there products before? One thing I learned today is to look for USP grade for my ethanol. USP means it exceeds the standards as for that for consumption by human beings.

All of the answers to your questions are in this thread. I read it 5 or 6 times before I attempted it. I think 90 min is the longest you want to soak

so what's the advantage to soaking it compared to spraying it through a tube?

i guess the temp difference between the 2 systems has something to do with different length of time the bud or trim is exposed to the butane?

now that you mentioned it i do remember jump saying how he left it sit longer, what i don't remember is the advantage of letting the product sit in the butane for a long time? is it a yield thing? doesnt the quality suffer when you soak that long? is that why the ethanol wash is being used in the first place?

Soaking extracts more, but requires operating at a low enough temperature that it slows down the process a lot as well.

The ethanol wash with winterizing is to remove the waxes.

Bingo. What G-dub said. I personally never do a soak, because in order to so while still maintaining an optically pristine extract, the temperature has to be very low as mentioned.

I do always freeze my extractor before extraction, as it helps create a relative vacuum between the canister and the column. When I open the ball valves and the butane flows from the canister into the closed extractor, it passes through all of the plant material in 60 seconds or less (700ml of butane through ~60 grams of material). No soaking at all, just a wash with a volumetric ratio of 4/1 (butane/herb), after which the extract swims around in the butane until the recovery process.

Waxes also require a higher temperature for efficient extraction, as I have observed less waxes in the finished product when the material is thoroughly frozen before being penetrated by the solvent, vs. a room temp extraction.

Im assuming no one is answering my questions because they really dont know some answers. Im starting to believe that my friend makes his glass without the ethanal wash. He only uses buane and he doesnt let the product sit in the butane for long so he doesnt pick up waxes like you guys do so it turns to glass. He also said that if you do the process using main buds, it turns to glass. He said that because you guys soak your product for a long time, you are picking up waxes and things that he doesnt pick up. He also said london butane sucks and is not 5x filtered. This thread is so confusing cause it changes and takes over 5 hours to read. This thread also can be dangerous to some when they dont understand the full thread and some like myself still dont. Here are my questions for the 3rd time:

Im assuming no one is answering my questions because they really dont know some answers.wrong the answers are in this thread your just being obstinate and posting this spam instead of reading and maybe taking notes. Im starting to believe that my friend makes his glass without the ethanal wash.he likely does it is a possible outcome of highquality bho He only uses buane and he doesnt let the product sit in the butane for long so he doesnt pick up waxes like you guys do so it turns to glass.boohoo He also said that if you do the process using main buds, it turns to glass. He said that because you guys soak your product for a long timeworship him a little don't 'cha, you are picking up waxes and things that he doesnt pick up.hey didn't you say that a second ago He also said london butane sucks and is not 5x filtered. This thread is so confusing cause it changes and takes over 5 hours to read.sorry the public education system failed you and your just barely functionally literate I did okay This thread also can be dangerous to some when they dont understand the full thread and some like myself still dont. Here are my questions for the 3rd time:seriously, you think this wins you friends, this is a rage answer

I have some questions on this process.

1. What is the best type of extractor material to use? Stainless steel, Glass, Plastic?
stainless or glass

2. In the USA, what can I buy in stores that will be safe to use to hold my trim and butane? What size bottle and for how much butane?
see above I am not going to link you to amazon for your ease
3. How long do I put the butane can into the freezer and is this dangerous?
in the can it isn't dangerous, till the power goes out
4. Do I spray the butane into the extractor bottle and let it sit for 30 minutes? What are the benefits or problms if you let it sit for longer or for shorter?
greywolf answered this three or so posts ago
5. When I pour the butane into the coffee pot, do i use a filter or is the filter for after I add ethenol?
first post again! but you can do it after both like jump or just after the ethanol, whatever
6. How long do I let the ethanol / BHO mixture sit in the freezer for?
greywolf suggests a day btw its ethanol hashish solution
7. What is the scum or residue left behind in the wash in the filter? Was that suff bad and was it in my BHO before I turned it to Amber Glass?
waxes, and fats, what does bad mean? obviously.
8. Where does the residue get left at the end? In the filter? Can you see the residue when you put the ethonal solution in the freezer? What does putting the ethonol solution in the freezer do?
see answer to number 6

so yeah you can stop posting this shit now. edit: whatever keep posting it I am ignoring you now!

Your statement about soaking times is wrong. Jump stated that soaking in a thermos will pull less undesirables than tube extraction, mostly because of temp and pressure.
1. Glass and stainless are best its a personal preference between the two, glass you can see whats going on, and stainless is stronger (won't break)
2.Stanley vacuum sealed thermos for soaking and stainless steel turkey basters from bed bath and beyond for tube extractions.
3. As long as it takes to get cold, no.
4. Drill two holes in the thermos, fill with one let gas escape out the other one, keep outside. Longer soak = more efficient extraction.
5. both
6. 24 to 48 hours
7. waxes mostly, yes they were there in bho and in the weed before that!
8. Yes in the filter, no you can't see them when you first put it in the freezer. Winterizing coagulates the waxes so they can be filtered.

Dude, all of these questions have been answered many times in this thread. so gimme some rep buddy!

1 okief stainless steel bho tubes
2 okief tubes for normal bho making or a thermos flask if you want to do the longer soak
3 put the tube in the freezer with the trim/or bud
4 no idea whats the benefit of longer soak, maybe a bit more yield is possible,
5 no filtering the butane as you spray it onto your plant matter
6 ethanol mexture is normally let sit over night
7 the left over stuff in the coffee filter are the waxes and some terps
8 freezing the ethanol makes the waxes become filterable

ps: you can make glass shatter without the ethanol step, specially if you are using whole buds for the bho. with trim making perfect shatter will be harder and more strain dependent.
