grow spot compromised - weird situation

hi all. long time lurker but first post. yesterday went to check on grow and found key would not work in the front door. went to back door (which is in alley secured by locked gates at each end) and was able to enter. upon entry i found nothing missing or out of place except my two front door locks had been changed. i then had all plants and equipment broken down and moved rite then and there. also had locks changed and will be putting up security cameras even tho i wont be growing their for awhile. checked with nabors and they said they didnt see or hear anything unusual. this is very weird to me. i can see a break in happening but nothing was taken. i think they changed the locks planning to come back with a truck. im in a med state so jackers are out and about looking for grows. so i have been keeping mine very low key anyway and now this happens.

anybody got any ideas. this changing locks thing is bugging me.

sound fucked up, if they took the time to change the locks then they must have had the keys to the old ones, or they drilled the locks through and replaced them, but i dont see why they would do that and not take anything...

maybe it was cops to check on your grow cause they thaught you were over numbers, when they found out there were no violations they replaced the locks and left???

i own the bldg. its a commercial bldg. no one has keys but me and who ever does not need to know about it does not know anything about it. i did have some guys do some furnace work for me a few days ago but i know them well and they have always proved trustworthy in the past, but u never know. i realize growing their is not possible not but i am keeping an eye on it hence the cameras going up. while talking with locksmith (alsotrusted for years) and showing him my old locks he said that the top deadbolt may not have went completely in and that it looked like they popped bottom lock to get in. the bldg does look unoccupied and we have problems with squatters around here.

thanks for replies guys and gals. this is just freakin me out.

Man that's a strange situation, moving everything out was good. Should be interesting to see what the outcome of this is, I hope your cameras solve this one for you

Is your grow locked inside the building? Would anyone who entered automatically see plants and know that it is a grow?

Possibly a squatter who doesn't know what a grow looks like, changed the locks with plans to come back?

Anyone who wanted to rip woulda done it then and there. Why change the locks and tip the owner off?

I can't see squatters changing locks, but like our brother here that had his storage locker lock changed after he was ripped, sounds like planned thieves/rippers...

leo would have left card or paperword - rippers found site, figgered they had 24/48 hrs, put locks to slow you down...

Love to see surveillance tapes for next couple days - gonna be some pissed folks banging your door down...

Got some friends, some "hardware" and some dogs???

Wait, watch, and when able - kick their fucking asses...

Good catch - good luck...

what would be awesome is to have the cops show up as their breaking in and have it all on tape, lol

It's a paranoid schizophrenic squatter with a janitor/gotta have keys to the building thing going. Or a ripper.

Sounds like law enforcement to me....I hate to be alarmist, especially when looking at the numbers and the fact that you are in a med state...but man that is a weird/fishy/unusual situation as others have said.

"Sneak and Peek" Search Warrants Are Easier to Obtain Than They Used to Be

Generally, police officers serving a warrant must "knock and announce" — that is, give you notice that they are the police and are serving a warrant (although they might not do this if they reasonably suspect that they will be put in danger, or that evidence will be destroyed, if they give such notice). If they have a warrant, they can enter and search even if you aren't home — but they still have to leave a copy of the warrant and an inventory of what they seized, so you'll know that your place was searched.

However, thanks to the USA PATRIOT Act, it is much easier for law enforcement to get permission from the court to delay notice rather than immediately inform the person whose premises are searched, if agents claim that giving notice would disrupt the investigation. Since the goal is not to tip the suspect off, these orders usually don't authorize the government to actually seize any property — but that won't stop them from poking around your computers.

The delay of notice in criminal cases can last months. The average delay is 30 to 90 days. In the case of super-secret foreign intelligence surveillance to be discussed later, the delay lasts forever — no one is ever notified, unless and until evidence from the search is introduced in open court.

The risk of being targeted with such a "sneak-and-peek" warrant is very low, although rising quickly. Law enforcement made 47 sneak-and-peek searches nationwide from September 2001 to April 2003 and an additional 108 through January 2005, averaging about fifty per year, mostly in drug cases. We don't know how many foreign intelligence searches there are per year — it's secret, of course — but we'd guess that it's much more common than secret searches by regular law enforcement.

I disagree. If it was LEO and they didn't let him know, it would have to have been a sneak and peek. Changing locks would effectively tip him off that someone was there (as it did) and defeat the purpose of the sneak and peek.

Well just a thought, but if it was cop's checking plant count and they got a tip there was a grow there, im sure they would just show up. Now yeah you would think they would leave a note as ''your count is all good''. But maybe keys and that note may come in the mail, not tossed on the table for who knows who could come in and make copies or just take the keys. Yet odd no note to simply say ''it was us here look for mail''?

But if you were over your numbers and they wanted to keep all evidence in tact, im sure all the locks would have been changed i would think. If it was a ripper they would have taken at least something in less they have this dumb ass thought that they could come back. Who the hell is not going to stop by their grow and see whats up with their plants? And when my key would not fit of course anyone would move everything a ripper would not want this. Know if cam's are in place now, and it is rippers, i can see them coming today asap. I might get a car from a friend who is not in the grow business and park down the road, they have remote locks you could place atop the door. This way they walk in and catch em locked in and call the cop's. If your all good on count and T's and i's are cool, they will get a B an E.

Not sure the law needs to say ''we are coming to count'', i would think they will show up. So maybe it was them, if your count was on, your registered or what ever ya gotta do in your state to grow, hell i would call them and ask if they entered your grow. If plant count was over they would just look up who owns the property, not hard, then come to your house and fine you or what ever they do. Not sure plant count or you were all good to grow under your state law.

But if they are rippers, they will be there today or tonight in less they are stupid. Like i said your going to check your grow every day or so right? I would catch the bastards inside, call the cops. Hell ya already did all the work to set up, but to have to go panic mode, hell with that. Iv been ripped to many times to let anyone slide, but using a chair im a easy target, not anymore, lol. But dont let the bastards get away with all your hard work! Even if it was a random plant count from cop's, they could have called and waited outside for you to show up, which is what i would think should be done, but not sure, im not in your state, sure wish i was, lol.

Good luck man and let us know what goes down, im puzzled.

They just left the old locks lying on the floor?
