Sup guys,

I'm currently setting up my tent at a new place. The neighbours are fairly close, as in a couple flights of stairs away.

Can get my fans into the loft and will box them up using loft insulation inside that polysterene loft board stuff for boxes. Will be hand watering to avoid any pump/ system sounds or vibrations, but wanted to know how others were getting on within such close quarters.

Usually in a house so these issues are new to me and a bit of a worry.

Other issue and I suppose more important one is smell... will ONA and those type of odor neutralizers deal anything the filter doesn't 100%? Probably gonna make a DIY ONA breeze for room tent is in stick some ONA in the loft where exhaust will go and go over kill on the ONA + plug in's/ auto sprayers around the place....
But..... does this stuff really deal with what filter may leak 100% or are there better smell killers on the market?

Any advice would be most appreciated guys, wanna get rollin asap :joint:

Can you stick the exhaust up a chimney ?

Back in the UK, in typical 3 Bed Semis I never bothered with carbon filters, just had a 6" fan exhausting up the chimney, use a filter and exhaust it silently up the chimney, zero problem. Use a good model of carbon filter,Phat or equuivalent.

Acoustic Fans are handy, basically a normal fan set inside a box lined with acoustic foam, Vent Axia make pukka ones, growshops sell IKEA style kits, all the wood cut and drilled, foam glued in place.... or you could make one yourself.

Insulated ducting is excellent, a very cheap investment that all but cancels out sound from a surprisingly noisy spot. As always with ducting, use as little as possible with the least bends possible. This helps with efficiency as well as sound.

Ozone generators kill smells, but effectively need their own space/room to run in, it is also not good for the health, to breathe. Could be a handy tool for emergencies and harvests though, if used right.

NE_Grower stick around mate, should get the answers were looking for here...

Hi Chaos, hope life is treating you well :)

I'm not sure that the chimney can be accessed from where I am but will check that... Surpirsed that you didn't get any issue venting straight out of chimney wind can play havoc with smells throwing them everywhere...

Phat filter - check, Insulated/Acoustic ducting - check, fans into box - check (although I'll use the 50mm thick polystyrene used to insulated between joists in loft in place of wood for the box, then some of that rockwool loft insulation to line pad out between fan and sides of box... will hang box from rubber o rings to reduce or eliminate vibration. I was debating ozone, but scratched off list for the health reasons... sounds like nasty stuff if not used correctly am a stoner to a certain extent so think I'll give it a miss lol :D

Thanks for your insight bro, my place is in a flat, when I'm in a house smell is not such an issue and usually can't smell a thing outside grow room until trimming or last week or so bloom.

Surely some of you guys are growing in a flat and have come up with some inventive ways of keeping all in under wraps from the neighbours?? Your 2p would be more than welcome so get posting

Cheers rollit,

this is the type of thing I needed to hear... do you just open up the pot of it or do you have the ONA breeze thingy? I read that you can add water retention granules to the ONA to keep ot going for longer...

I just use blocks mate once they start drying i peel hard bits off i prefer the blocks to gel but you can recharge the gel but i dont think its as good as the blocks the fans will prpbably make them dry up faster

Sounds like you have everything under way Shhh... Ona in my opinion is a quick fix and masks the smell but its not a preventive... i like it that if i got a problem i use this to mask it while im resolving the issue...

i have a Uvonair® 3000 ozone generator and again for a quick fix or small grow area its very good it bleaches the air literally.. not so good for your lungs i dont think.. lol

i have just got a Ozone gen that is powerfull enough to kill them smell in a room that is 8000cubic feet full of weed for £400 you do need a 10m run of ducting for the air to mix together and you MUST MUST NOT breath it in as 3 breaths with my head in front of the duct and my head hurts my guts go over and i feel ill.... but dude it kills all and any smell...

double barreling fans and filters in your grow space with silencers and ducting is always a good one for reducing smells also and making sure your humidity is nice and low so the carbon in your filters is nice and dry.... dryer the carbon more efficient it is :)

Ozone is good for smells and parasites like mildew used it on my marine fishtank but used incorrectly its quite bad likr choc said had a massive headache from it worst i ever had

ozone is created when a storm is brewing thats what you can smell in the air

Hey Shhh,
Best advice I can give is a decent Carbon Filter like Phat or Mountain Air and if worried about smell when entering room get some Ona Pro Gel 1 litre pots around the place, they have a great linen smell and work very well.
I read the same stuff on ozone generators which put me off.
I extract filtered air into chimney breast using ducting inside the breast to make air flow go straight up the chimney, rather than hit the breast and blast down the chimney, but I live in a house so cannot advise on a flat mate.

Rollit, excuse my ignorance mate... I forgot about the blocks and assumed you used the gel... So you rate the blocks over the gel then rollit, where do you place your ONA using the block?

W'sup Choc, things are getting started for sure :)

The Uvonair® was the genny I seen....Then I read up on ozone as I never used it I was like fook that for a game of soldiers!

I frequently read comments akin to:

Choc said:

and came to the conclusion I'd better leave that alone :D It's a **** though as I read the same you say above; ozone kick ass for killing smell. 8000cubic ft aye that's a bloody beast bro!!

The double barrelling is something I could get down with now... Would this just be the filter/fan combo for tent and then a smaller fan/filter combo for outside tent?

Hi, missed your post while replying speedemon...

I have PHAT filter (10") and 1000m3 fan that have seen 1 x 2.5 month grow I'll use. I got a pot of ONA gel today and stuck it into the room with a few moms. seedlings and cuttings in and can't smell a thing (no extraction on) outside the tent or in for that matter lol, tell a lie... there is a faint 'air freshener' and weed smell in the tent. I was just curious whether ONA could handle any leaks in full bloom.

Do you use any fan to circulate ONA like the breeze does speed? OR just leave the jars of it open?

easy m8,

im in your situation, I went big with the fan and filter in my tent and have no real problems with smell. currently running 2 tents off one fan (not ideal) which has lead to a few issues with smell for a week or so before the chop, air wick was my friend ;)

Many people pass the door of the grow room with no issues. my main smell issue is me smoking ;)

E

edgey

i use the ona gel , linen fresh :D

keep a pot near the front door as well as the usual plug in air freshners

Do u tip the whole jar into a bucket then cheesey? or just dump a few handlfuls of the stuff in? USe any water retention granules?

I seen this guy who DIY'd a 'breeze'. Design looked expensive with the fan he used, but he advises the water granules to extend life of gel and also sucked air through bucket instead of blowing it

Ozone are the shit for eradication of smell but they are dangerous thats all i can say about them dude if you can grow without them then do so... i cant as even the smallest smell is an issue so the ozone at my current location is a must!

as for the carbons and fans yeah just let them recirculate the air in your room or tent make sure you use ots of ducting on the end to deaden the sound of the fan :) i use them inside and out as many as i can get away with... i hate smelling weed at my venues fucks with my OCD :pimp3:

at the hiddenroom we just tipped a ltr into a 5ltr bucket and had the fan on a timer every hour for 5 mins . 1ltr of ono would last around 2 weeks . also use to put a handfull in a takeaway box n put in the duct going outside every 3 weeks.

Hi Shhh,

Si Senor, life is good thanks,

Chimneys work pretty well, but are not 100%, think it is a pressure issue, but swirling winds would not help. Normally it seems to be carried away in layers. Hunters sit in trees and stands only 3m above the ground, yet deer and foxes wander around below them.

This was before carbon filters were available, I would use one now always, but still stick it up a chimney, if available.

Hot air coming out of a chimney does not look strange to LEO or Rippers on their IR scans, take great care where gas fires are involved, CO is deadly.

Good luck ;-)

Choc.... I hear you dude, Ozone does it says on the tin!! I'll be sure to grab a uvonair if it gets really smelly, for now I think the double barrel carbon + ONA may just do the trick. Have had quite a few clones, 4 mother plants and a few seedlings in a DIY tent with ONA in the room and smell is minimal, pretty sure with a few of these as used by the dudes here may do the trick with 2 scrubbers @ work.

Sup Cheesey, cheers for the pointers on the ONA, it's pretty good stuff from what I've seen so far. For the ONA you stuck in ducting , did you makes holes in the takeaway box with lid on or just fill and leave lid off and fill with ONA?

Yo Chaos :)

I have a chimney but might be a bit of PIG to get into it.... I"ll give it a try though as it would pretty much guarantee a snow less roof.... If I can't I'll be mixing air from outside in to loft with hot air to try and minimize signature...

Got the polystyrene and insulation bought, should have fans boxed in a couple days, then the tent goes up :) at last lol!
