I thought Repubs wanted smaller government? This won't pass the senate and I'm sure Obama would pull out the veto pen for this, especially if he wants the independent vote.

Kinda, they want a market/corporate free for all, and use the federal government as morality police to lock up all you gay abortion loving druggies. Better be signing that guest book at church on sunday too.

^that is the problem right there. term limits for everyone, voting third parties, education, and civil disobedience are the ways to solve the county's problems. It has to be all of them though, it can't just be one or two.

What bothers me most is that these assholes should be working on fixing the economy and creating jobs. Everybody is bitching about how bad the deficit is and how broken government is. But instead of dealing with the deficit in a meaningful manner, these jackholes are legislating morality. And the same asswads that are saying government is broken are creating bills like this. Government is broken, and it's the jackasses like this in government that broke it.

This is not quite correct. It's not even made it to the House yet, just passed within House Judiciary Committee.

Further, this same bill was attempted in the last session and never made it out of committee in the House or Senate.

Unlikely to happen, but now is the time to contact your representatives in the House and let them know this bill sucks. I don't even see that a sister bill has been introduced in the Senate, so like, I don't see how this could possibly become law in this session of Congress.

You guys can keep track of the bill & related legislation here - http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-313

ya I had misread it at first too. I thought is had passed the house of representatives already. That is why I was so over reactive with the post. I am glad it was just a committee, but the fact that it is even on the table is absurd.

I think that the bill was rather creative.
Look at it this way,
If you want a totalitarian type government, and you have that pesky free speech thing going on, why not try to make it illegal to talk about certain things. Isn't this the next step after political correctness?

Ohh.......and by the way, if you smoke MMJ, lets take your right to bare arms away as well.

I'm betting that things could get really ugly here real soon.

you hit the nail on the head man

3rd party votes are throw aways. They only draw votes from the (usually) better candidate. The answer is to vote for ron paul in the republican primary elections, and have him be the republican nominee. The ONLY candidate who is on our side as far as weed goes.
.

You are absolutely 100% correct, according to the ideologies of the Republican and Democratic parties. Why there NEVER will need to be a 3rd or even a 4th party as long as the 2 party system we have is propped up, left in place, working just fine and seen that way by people like you!!

"They only draw votes from the (usually) better candidate"

Hears a news flash for you. There hasn't been a better candidate in years. Just more of the same making shit worse and making more and more of our citizens dependent on government. I'd rather "throw away" my vote on a 3rd party than vote for a bullshit puppet of either party.

"The answer is to vote for ron paul in the republican primary elections, and have him be the republican nominee. "
I like Dr Paul and I'll vote for him in the primary in my state like I did last time.(Last time he won my state, then they-they being the state Republican party leaders=, shut down the state convention before the delegates could cast their vote for him. Just the way it goes, ya know, wink, wink, nod, nod, and then gave the whole shooting match to that traitor McCain) But my friend, if you REALLY believe the Republican party is gonna give up their meal ticket and way of life and allow Ron to become the Presidential Candidate of their party, I've got the Holy Grail in my grow room that I'll make you an excellent price on. I'll even take payments over time from ya. They'll have him shot so that either "Sweepitunderdarug" Perry or Massachusetts Mitt can be their boy. After all, they can't have some nut running around talking about giving freedoms back to citizens now can they?

This 1 sentence-"3rd party votes are throw aways." Reminds me of 90% of voters. I prefer to call em either red or blue dyed in the wool sheeple.

:wave: your right, I'm the problem.

when the leading third party candidates have pulled results like these in the last few elections

Reform Party of USA Presidential tickets

* 1996 – Ross Perot and Pat Choate - 8,085,402 votes
* 2000 – Pat Buchanan and Ezola B. Foster - 448,895 votes
* 2004 – Ralph Nader and Peter Miguel Camejo - 465,650 votes
* 2008 – Ted Weill and Frank McEnulty - 481 votes

yes, those are NATIONAL numbers.

and the old stand by gauranteed independent candidate(nader) Does this

After some consideration, Nader announced on February 24, 2008, that he would run for President as an independent. His vice-presidential candidate was Matt Gonzalez.[88]

Nader received 738,475 votes, for 0.56 percent of the popular vote, earning him a third place position in the overall election results.[89]

...then I would be making a very well informed vote by "not" throwing it away for them.

You MIGHT have an outside chance at getting matching federal funds for the 2016 election. but thats a very outside chance at this point.

Ross perot in 1992 was the last 3rd party to get more than 10% of the popular national vote.

the last meaningful one before him was teddy roosevelt. i cant wait 60 more years for a change.

Hi. Ive been voting since the late 90s, no breaking news here. However, there is always a better of two evils. Im not falling in for some revisionist history that doesnt recall this election, cuz i sure do.....
In the 2000 presidential election in Florida, George W. Bush defeated Al Gore by 537 votes. Nader received 97,421 votes, which led to claims that he was responsible for Gore's defeat. Nader, both in his book Crashing the Party and on his website, states: "In the year 2000, exit polls reported that 25% of my voters would have voted for Bush, 38% would have voted for Gore and the rest would not have voted at all."[69] (which would net a 13%, 12,665 votes, advantage for Gore over Bush.) Michael Moore at first argued that Florida was so close that votes for any of seven other candidates could also have switched the results,[7] but in 2004 joined the view that Nader had helped make Bush president.[9][70] When asked about claims of being a spoiler, Nader typically points to the controversial Supreme Court ruling that halted a Florida recount, Gore's loss in his home state of Tennessee, and the "quarter million Democrats who voted for Bush in Florida."[71]

Good for you, we should all be voting for him in the primary, I did last go around as well and will this time.

But times are changing and the people are refusing to continue to be ignored.

so if he doesnt make the republican ticket, ill organize for a write in for the election. because its better to put hope for change on a candidate who introduces this bill

H.R. 2306: Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2011

112th Congress: 2011-2012

To limit the application of Federal laws to the distribution and consumption of marihuana, and for other purposes.

Status: This bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Explanation: Introduced bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee. [Last Updated: Sep 22, 2011 6:18AM]

rather than voting for a glorified consumer reports writer.

An informed vote is better than one concerned with colors.

oh I'd love to. But unfortunately the government gets my money. They gave me a great deal on an "american dream". I guess the shipping just takes a really long time.

Now that's funny as hell right there. Sad part is it's the truth.
I've never seen it as throwing a vote away. I find it extremely sad that enough have bought in to that line of thinking tho. Nothing will ever change as long as a 3rd or even a 4th party doesn't qualify for matching funds for a presidential run and a place on the debates. The only way that will ever happen is for enough to vote for a different choice whether they agree with it or not.. And all it will ever take is 1 election cycle, with great enough numbers, to attract a qualified contender to shake things up in future elections. My point is and always has been that if people keep on voting for the lesser of 2 evils, as you state you do, we are and always will be doomed to repeat the same process over and over while losing more and more. Kinda like the definition of insanity. It seems they are more content voting to continue the payments into the same old, tired, failing policies that have gotten us where we are as a country today.

I thought for a LONG time Ron Paul was just a nut case, I am re-thinking MY thinking because of recent events from the Obama administration.

I think he is looking better and better every day and he just won a very conservative straw poll recently. I might have to swallow hard and pull the trigger for him so I can look myself in the mirror after this coming election.

If you guys weren't growing prior to Al Gore inventing the internet, you can't really appreciate how much of a tragedy it would be for us to lose this venue. I started growing quite a while before Operation Green Merchant, and it was a whole different world - just a handful of reference books, some of which were completely full of shit (entertaining though, I loved the one about stressing your plants for higher potency by sticking a nail through the stem). It is unbelievable the amount of information and help that we have at our fingertips now.
