I've never seen it as throwing a vote away. I find it extremely sad that enough have bought in to that line of thinking tho. Nothing will ever change as long as a 3rd or even a 4th party doesn't qualify for matching funds for a presidential run and a place on the debates.

nothing will change in that case. Perot made the debates in 92, where he actually was getting lots of support and made himself a national figure. He qualified for funding for the 96 election, but was muscled out of the debates, which is often blamed for his drop from 18% to 8%.

The only way that will ever happen is for enough to vote for a different choice whether they agree with it or not.. And all it will ever take is 1 election cycle, with great enough numbers, to attract a qualified contender to shake things up in future elections.

I used to think like you do, My votes neevr went to the main parties, and after years of doing that I kind of realized "hey im wasting my time". In order to get elected, someone has to appeal to a much broader base of americans than the pot community or some fringe left or right wing group. Many americans are so blinded by the red vs blue debate we've been force fed by the media to dare to vote outside their party.

I am faaaar from republican but registered so to skew the numbers and hopefully cast a vote on a decent repub primary candidate. ( I can vote for WHOEVER I want in the general election).

My point is and always has been that if people keep on voting for the lesser of 2 evils, as you state you do, we are and always will be doomed to repeat the same process over and over while losing more and more. Kinda like the definition of insanity. It seems they are more content voting to continue the payments into the same old, tired, failing policies that have gotten us where we are as a country today.

Never said i vote for the lesser of two evils, just pointing out there always at least appears to be before the election, when they get in they are all the same.

I think voting for someone i dont agree with is crazy, so I wont just do it to think im changing things. i think a pot-friendly republican is leaps and bounds more realistic than some third party nobody.

and besides, voting third party in 2012 to hope for a good candidate in 2016 is not gonna work. can this country really make it four years under a romney or cain or obama again? Maybe the country itself can survive but us in the MJ community willbe pushed further and further underground.

exactly... i really can't. and don't see em going down w/o an accidental death or two. maybe not to that extreme, at first, but if it really keeps going in that direction... af1 is going to have engine troubles with a faulty rotor bearing that was missed during extensive maintenance inspections, ya know? And even if he does manage to actually take care of business and stick to his proverbial guns, this country cannot afford to suddenly stop fighting the drug war and fire all of its DEA agents because the prison industry and the DW are paying a lot of our fucking bills right now...
