I've mostly used Can's ..and have always been satisfied with their performance . Used a Phresh for a short time for a tent full of sours ..about halfway thru the second bloom cycle just wasn't cutting it . When I went to get a different filter I mentioned that the phresh wasn't exactly impressive . The guy at my shop said that they had gotten several similar complaints and were only continuing to carry to offer a cheaper alternative .

I'm really glad I saw this thread today... I was about an hour away from purchasing a Phresh filter. After what I read here... Fuck That!! A stinky house full is not worth the $40 in savings..

I've had great results using both the can filter 33, and for a cheaper alternative the ActiveAir brand which for whatever reason my store no longer carries.. I usually get a good year of service out of them.

EDIT: Nevermind... It was the Phat filter I was going to buy.. What the fuck is up with the whole swapping of the F for Ph shit.. Where the phuck did these people go to school...

I've used both Can and Phresh and both have been great filters. I change them out at 12 months no matter what and neither brand was letting smells through at that time. With that being said I only buy Phresh now because they are so damn light and easy to set up alone. I use the 8"x39" with an 8" fan in my 8x4 flower room. Filter -> Fan -> Lights -> Exhaust to furnace air return vent.

Yeah great results with Preash and im in a tent, the phreash filters are like half the weight of cans, super easy to hang in tents. My current Preash has been running over a year, if im not medicating there is zero smell.

Here's what my experience has been:

Can100 w/ 10" max fan - Lasted 18months then I started smelling some funk. Replaced with a Can125.

Phresh 6x24 - 20 months Going strong but is used in veg.

I'm trying out one of the new 12" Can-Lite filters in a new room. It looks to be the same carbon as the phresh filters but is about as big as Can100. The cool thing is I was able to hang it from the ceiling by myself.

I think the phresh filters are hype. is there any conclusive tests on rc 48 vs the bigger pellet carbon?

Though I do like that it has the conical bottom that is clever air will travel better... (But i think phat hast this as well) also there is one that is reversible... who makes it? IT is briliant because I belive that in most filters the carbon gets used up unevenly so if you can reverse it that would make it last longer... Though If you push into the filter that might in theory give you more time (after pulling for a while)

this is a good question though.. I really like can because they are very strong good strong steel that will last a long time and since I refill my filters this is a good trait. I just rescently bought a hydrofarm goblin.. or what ever... that Im really disapointed in.. IT might be made of aluminum but if its steal it is flimsy as hell. but i think im just upsett about the price and the fact that the guy at the shop lied to me.. he might not have done it on purpuse but he told me the filter had 28lbs of carbon... but in reality it only has 14.. the 28 was the total weight... My can 2600 weighs more but has like 10 lbs of carbon so its barely even an upgrade...

err u live and learn.. for only 30 bucks more i could have gotten a can 33 htg on ebay has a good deal on one that has like 25lbs of carbon for only 100 bucks.

There are many great carbon filters on the martket today, Phat, Can, mountain air to name a few. Go with a reputable company, but id say the bigger issue with correctly using carbon filters would be to pair them up with a fan in their CFM range. Even the absolute BEST carbon filter monay can buy will perform poorly if too much or too little air moves thru it. Just something to think about :)

i agree . got to match the fan speed with the filter flow rate ,
also in my experience can filters are the best . if you look at the flow rate they tend to be less than other filters the same size ,

cans dont let the air past as fast , they scrub the air far better ,
i honestly have never changed a can filter because of its smell , i only change um after a few years and thats only because of the age and not the smell ,

you honestly cant go wrong with a can filter . they do a lighter weight one but dont get that one as its just like the other brands and dot scrub as well

Carbon Active super light weight filters pulverised carbon 3 layers , 99.9 percent scrub rate and can hold um with one hand , they also do a mini line , massive flow rate but more cost , def the filter to have if cash is no problem .made is switzerland

I've used every filter in production now & have stuck with the phresh or phat brand. Those who've had issues with their phresh filters must have ran the air too fast or just had bad filters. Every phresh I've had has preformed very well (for at least 8-12 months.) Granular carbon is by far better than the pellet kind (which you have in can filters) This is a proven fact. You have many who stick with what they started out with, like old school can filters & they will always defend them. Do some more research before you change yer mind from a few posts saying phresh sucks. You were on the right track about getting one.

I think a lot of people take the mfgrs. at their word about capacity, fan cfm, etc. There seems to be no standard among mfgrs. about those factors, and there's the natural tendency of companies to say their fan or filter will do more for less money than competitors.

What counts is the weight of carbon in the filter, and the speed and amount of air passing thru it. If it goes thru too fast, it won't take as much odor out. There is a difference in carbons also.

Here's a chart backed by testing that I think is helpful for comparison. http://www.westcoastgrowers.com/carbonfilters.htm
Note the "indicative cfm."

Unfortunately it doesn't tell how much carbon is in each. You'll have to search for that on supplier sites for the brands you're considering. -granger

phresh filters are good and nothing wrong with them , but they do not last as long , they allow the air to pas sthrough them alot faster then the cans . the can has a slower flow rate and scrubs more . i have used both and mountain air , rhino and many others , can is the only one i have never changed due to smell ,

i even melter all my carbon together when i used a humidifier , it must have got to wet but still work fine . i only changed when i noticed rust and the melting of the carbon ,

i use a can filter with a 6in. vortex no fan speed controller. going on 3 or 4 years now of constant use without changing carbon. no odor. what more is there to say :)

I have been using phresh filters for almost 3 years now. I have only bought 2 if that says anything.

Hell my old one probably still works i just bought a new one anyways.

they are light and reasonably priced. Shipping cost a lot less too if you are shipping.

I use the phresh filter 400 with a 400cfm fan and it does my 800 cubic foot room just fine.

I exhaust my room through the filter. I think thats important too.

My filter cost about $140 or $150 and my fan cost $100
so the total would be about $250

My fan is an active air 400cfm inline.. (its green)

I just dont see how people think they dont last long. Mine works just fine and I have been doing mental floss. It is a very stinky strain and I have no smell in my house. Like I said, I used both of the ones I have had over a year. I am still using my second one and it has to be about 1.5 years now. I exhaust my room into the ducting of my house, so i would smell it everywhere and so would anyone that came over. No one has a clue. I wash my pre filter every 3 months.

When I smoke i spray some ona liquid that i use in a spray bottle and I have zero issues with odor.

I bought a phresh filter for my cab a couple months ago. Working great. The only complaint is that the mounting flange was a bit over-sized. I had to use foam shims and aluminum ducting tape to attach it to my fan. Other than that, this small 4" x 8" filter cleans my cabinet just fine.

I don't think there is a best or worst(just lemons), but the two top filters mentioned in these type of threads is CAN and Phresh. My local store only carried Phresh so I gave em a try. So far I'm happy
