First time seed buyer

Hi icmaggers.
I could use a little help with the seed market, if you please.
First, the price spread among breeders is pretty wide. I'm sure the adage 'you get what you pay for' applies, I'm looking for some help delineating where the lines lie. It seems like the majority of seeds I've shopped goes for $50 - $75 for 10 beans. This is stuff like NL and NL crosses, Afghans, White Widow...stuff I consider to be above average. So, is it safe to say that strains in the $25 range are middies at best, and strains in the $100+ range are maybe twice as good as NL, Afghans, Colombian, etc? ?

I could also use help picking a strain. (I've grown Cannabis before but it was a long long time ago)
With that in mind, I've been looking at the NL line. Any suggestions as to which breeder to go with?
Any suggestions on another strain that might fit the bill?
I'd like it to be at least a moderate yielder, but delivery of a strong, balanced head/body buzz and tolerant growth characteristics are more important to me.

Price does not equal quality. Although that is what some breeder's would have you believe. You can get equal quality from a $3 seed or a $20 seed.

Have you really read threads around here? I would not touch Sensi stuff until reports say other. :comfort:

I know I would be very pissed off, and as newbie might quit hobby at start, if my over 100€ seeds won't germinate. That is why it is better try something more stable and cheaper before going risky.

yeah i have !! have you read the negitive threads on dj's gear ? the negitive threads on rez'z gear ?

there are negitive threads on almost every breeders gear !!

there are always people who have bad experiances weather its bad germation !! hermies !! massive pheno differnces !

you cant discredit companys for one or 2 bad experiances !!
its stupid and short sighted

that said cheaper is better if money is tight !!

but if you want the best you have to pay a little extra ,

BOG gear is well worth the effort.
they are usually fast finishers, very easy to grow and very forgiving for mistakes.
for yield go with bogglegum or BMR,
sour strawberry kush is a really ice berry strain
for sheer potency sourbubble :blowbubbles: is what you want but requies a fairly long veg to get a descent harvest but you'll find lots of keepers with SB and sour lifesaver.

you won't be disappointed with anything from BOG

I've got a thread in the BOG sub-forum detailing my troubles with my recent BOG seeds. A couple other people have noted similar problems. No matter how my one surviving seedling turns out I'll be looking elsewhere for my next purchase.

Cannabiogen is the IC Mag 420 Cup 2011 Breeder of the Year. That sounds like a good place to start.

if you listened to every thread !! every rumour !! every bit of hear say !!

you would never buy any seeds at all !!!

for every negitive thread !! you will be able to find a postive thread !!

for every one person who says sensi seeds dont germ there crap !!

you will find another who says they found the best plant they have ever had in a pack of sensi !!

unless its first hand experiance or a massive percent sayin the same thing ( as in grape kush 2 gate ) it means nothing !!

but money talks at end the day i will always go for the cheaper seeds if i can !!

Sure, there are lots of gems found in old sensi stock. Hell, when I am rich(if ever), definately buy pack of Sensi Jack Herer to see what happens with my own eyes, but let this issue here. Nowadays you can find cheap and quality beans from everywhere, so spending over 100€/$ is not common sense.

agree but there are times were the extra dollers do count, were sometimes if you want the best you need to pay the extra money !, and there are gems in sensi's recent stock too , there was a thread about there maple leaf indica brough recently witch said it was one the best plants the grower had grown !!

there the same plants you know , same mother plants , as there older seeds , sensi's cheaper company white lable has some gems too !!

but i think they do need to get real on there prices!!! they should lower there prices to the market average or slightly above as should rez and others who charge stupidly !!

lets face it chem and sour deisel aint hard to get anymore either are jack herer or northan lights !

Good to hear that current Sensi stock has produced good plants. Remember times, when there was just mainly Sensi and DP where to choose from. I think Nirvana and their pricerange has made this hobby available to everyone. :tiphat:

Dont argue on the guys thread lol

Give Mr Nice a shot.. you get 18 to 20 beans so even at his higher price for his good stuff your getting a bargin because you get so many beans. Plus Shantibaba is super cool, so if like for some reason your beans dont pop(very rare) you can private message him and he'll send you replacements personally.

Youve grown before so you have some experience.. its like riding a bike.

If your trying to get more grows under your belt before you try some of the more expensive strains then go with a cheaper variety.

Im sure you want something with a high tolerance or no tolerance at all so nirvana isnt were you wanna go. Ive grown Pure Power Plant and Northern Lights x Shiva from them and quickly built up a tolerance. The highs were good however, especially the PPP. It gave me an instant head rush and gave me so much energy I got the urge to go running. Northern Lights x Shiva smelled like fruity pebbles and gave a pretty even head/body stone.

It would probably help others help you more if you gave us alittle more information. Like whats your height limitations, can the strain smell strong and do you wanna train the plant(LST,Top,Scrog) and what smell/taste your looking for.

I must suggest Mr Nice Super Silver Haze while there still in stock at Seedboutique(Ive been trying to get Mrnice for years)... its got a head/body high, yeilds well, smells great(incense funk),is 25% NL and is very popular. If you do go with SSH then know that less is more when it comes to nutrients as haze doesnt like alot of it and if height is a concern you can start seed or rooted clone on 12/12 immediately.

Some info on SSH from Seedboutique
***A champion of champions since winning its hat-trick at the 1997, 1998, and 1999 High Times Cannabis Cups and comprising the most commercial strains known to the uncivilized world: Skunk, NL and Haze. Such achievements confer an undoubtedly regal pedigree. It's an excellent breed for those who wish to possess the stash of stashes and leaves one gasping for reality. Expect harvest in 8-10 weeks with top yields (450-550g/m2) and heavy resin production. In the northern hemisphere completion date would be expected by late October; in the southern hemisphere, late May/June.This complex hybrid is in the cutting edge in practical Haze hybrids, designed to astound the grower and consumer alike. Recommendation is unnecessary as most people can't see the Haze for their daze***

I myself was debating on if I should get SSH or Mango Haze from Mr Nice.. I went with Mango Haze and I would have recommended it to you but I think its probably not what your looking for because you want some body with your high and Mango Haze doesnt yield like SSH.

Even if you dont want SSH Mr Nice has what your looking for and with Mr Nice, the harder it is to grow it the more expensive it is. His most expensive variety is still only like $9 a seed and his cheapest is $2 a seed.

There are plenty of other good selections but im just trying to steer you in the right direction.

Good luck with whatever you choose and please let us know what you end up selecting(cause we're all nosy :) )

edit.. I must also suggest seeds from Ace(pakistani chitral kush), Cannabiogen(pck or peyote purple) ,and Dutchgrown(magenta99 - its pck x durban thai c99). An added bonus with pck is it gives very very good female to male ratios.

Price does not equal quality. Although that is what some breeder's would have you believe. You can get equal quality from a $3 seed or a $20 seed.

That is it in a nutshell.

Cheap seeds that are fab,

Mandala Satori
GHS Lemon Skunk, Trainwreck, SLH, others
DNAReservaPrivada, most of their stuff is fantastic.
Nirvana, read up on strains, many are good, ICE and Papaya are great Indicas
Mosca Negra, great C99, crosses of
Eva, Missing is a fantastic plant, very underrated.
ACE/Cannabiogen for wild Sativas
KC Brains for outdoor selected strains

Serious Seeds are now probably the only people I would pay "big" money for seeds, they have fantastic strains and very high standards. Soma too, if you want to hunt for something really special.

Mr. Nice Ortega for a nice representation of NL.

FWIW, MNS Ortega is not the real Ortega of legend, it is a NL mix and it seems to be throwing a lot of hermies for some people, as do several of their new batches inc. the new band names packs. See http://www.mrnice.nl/forum/ortega/7703-herm-city.html

I have heard this same story from several offline grower friends, no idea what is going on there ....
