Ive always wanted a shepherd, but have been afraid cause I dont want it to attack visitors.

I was bit by a GS when I was a kid, was always a friendly dog til one day I went to pet it as I usually did and it just snapped on my hand.

any GS owners here that have had success training them to be friendlier? also, would male or female be a better choice?

:bigeye: I love it! I'm anti-crate too, I know how trainers rec. them, but I couldn't do it either........Who knew: Supermanlives is a big softy! :biglaugh:

MMJcali: I am of the opinion that females make for better behaved pups....but, I am also a known sexist.
All of the GS's I have known, have been total dolls. GS's are highly regarded as one of the most trainable breeds. Generally speaking, if you get the pup from a *reputable breeder*, train it early, and are consistent w/ disapline...if you want a docile, love bug; that's what you will end up with...And I think that goes for nearly all pups/breeds.

*TiP*: And do get a Dyson 'pet' vacuum!! You'll need it!

Man, buying a Dyson is like joining a freaking cult, lol.

i want another dog that loves me and tells everyone else to fuck off. LOL i believe you can have both security and semi friendly as my last dog proved . he was safe even with babies but attacked a burglar.this dog wont be meeting too many people.i got to do something to prevent hairy buds. dyson is expensive. my last dog i used a horse grooming tool on.. it used to look like it was snowing when the wind blew the right way and he was shedding his underfur. it looks like a saw blade with 4 rings. better than brush. still got it and his choke collar. puppy just destroyed 2 more potted plants . thank god its bedtime

Yeah man you are gonna need to be a groomer with a shep. Check out the kind that hooks up to a shop vac. Also research a pinch collar. Yes they look awful. Used properly very humane. Safer than a choke. Shep's are very visual learners, so give a hand or body que for each verbal command.. Love them sheps prob more than cannabis if possible...

Oh man I missed the puppy pic?
Good call on the Parvo shots I'd get it soon cause that shit will walk in your house from the bottom of your feet.

Congratz, GSD are awesome dogs, we had them all through my childhood/teens. Id have one now if I hadn't been Weimaraner obsessed for the past decade.
Puppies, natures way of telling you you have too stuff lying around LOL.
Heres to the start of a great partnership
Before you try a pinch/prong collar, give the "easy walk" harness a try, its sold under the gentle leader brand and its brilliant. but if you do get a prong, buy a Sprenger.
