What's new

heath inspired test prototype (aero)

Gimmie some of that :) Interesting weed donut man, how did she yield for ya if you don't mind me asking?

I didnt know what i was doing when i ran that weed donut and only yielded 8z from 10 plants. I think if i followed some of the steps that i learned on this site it will do alot better.

Dam the bad luck!!!!!

Ive been battling what i thought was mag defiencies for the last 10 days.

Last night i pulled one of the plants that wasnt looking good to examine the roots.

Hundreds of tiny little bugs!!!! brown, some greyish all over the roots! F$#%@k!!

I started checking all the roots on every plant... It turns out every plant in the wall system has it, and even some in my flat gardens. This is a fresh grow in a room that was cleaned and sterilized.

Its obvious that the 60 clones that i bought for this run from a local clone guy were all infested! The only plants that dont have it are my blackberry clones in a seperate system. Every wall system or flat system that has one of his clones is now infected.

This sucks!

Brother, I think you have root aphids. It was my suspicion when I saw the pics, cause I just had the same shit happen to me...

Go to Home Depot, and get Ortho MAX tree & shrub... it has 1.47% Imid. I used it @6mL a gallon and it nuked those fuckers... Good luck. Treat everything!

i can smell those dead roots from here!
o man what a bummer friend, just know there are thousands of us that share your pain.
(have you tried shaking your fists at the sky and screaming NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!)

if you have already done that, i can personally attest that a drench with IMID (in your vegging plants) bayer tree/shrub, greenlight, orthomax like bobbleheadsaid...will kill em dead.

after a fight with the rootaphids a few years ago, (i recycle my medium) i do a single weak imid treatment during the final 3-4 weeks of VEG. never had an issue since.

best of luck! and btw, your setup is still awesome.

Check out that thread I liked to. Aerohead battled root aphids in that thread and got his plants back to healthy. Then he smashed 2.5lbs with 1kw.

:joint:

Ganja man.. hydrosun and bobblehead....you da mans!! Im headed down to get me something now. Do you add ortho it to the reservoir with nutes ? or do you use plain water? Also how long do you leave it in the res?

I feed my plants DTW... But I added it to pH-ed water w/ nutes. I didn't see any signs of toxicity, just dead root aphids. Probably couldn't hurt to treat them 2-3x over the next couple weeks to make sure you really got them. The good news is Ortho MAX is only $20.

heres a pic of a weed donut that i modified out of my flat aero systems and ran about a year ago.

I didnt know what i was doing and only yielded about 8 ounces from 10 plants. I figured it wasnt a good setup and scraped the idea. But after finding this site i think it just needed some dialing in (stretch, pruning) and the right strain.

I stopped trying this setup when i only got 8 zips. I didnt see the point when i could get 24zips running it full and horizontal. I bet aero could smash it!

Thanks Bobble... I will give it a shot.

with this type of setup, a 100% chemical (no-organic) nute regimen is a must. a "dead res" is also a must. systemic use of h202 and/or bleach should be used at all times. treating the clones (not in flower) with IMID is also recommended. IMID stays in the plant for 45-60 days (depending on transpiration, environment, etc). it is much better to hit them with it when they are in a vegetative state or very early flower. it is systemic and the bugs die from eating the roots.

u see... when one plant gets sick or infested, the nature of the hydro system is to spread it all over other plants. bugs and disease are not as "dumb" as we think. they are very efficient in doing what they do. everything happens faster in hydo.

Thanks for sharing your past setup! :) Clearly you know what you're doing with aeroponics... You just hit a rough patch with these root aphids. Same happened to me. I thought I was having Cal/Mag deficiencies... That a perfect pH and cal/mag couldn't fix! lol

Waiting for the rebound... I know you're gonna blow us all away this time.

If you read back i started these in Canna (inorganic) and supplemented with h202. When problems started to show i first thought it was the canna (first time using it) so i switched back to my trusty organic botanicare. Only to find out that it was root aphids.

Ive always ran botanicare in my flat aero grows and never had any problems (except salt buildup and flushing more often)

But i did want to give the canna a try. Now that i found the cause being root aphids i think i will go back to experimenting with the canna if i can ever get to a harvest.

Yea man..i swear i feel like im fighting a losing battle!!!

I went to home depot but they were out of ortho, so i went with bayer. I just added to the reservoirs at 6ml a gallon. Hope it all works out.

PS.. the bayer is thick isnt it? I wonder if it will clog the sprayers? any aero peeps use this stuff before?

Thanks for the encouragement Bobble!

your not alone. you might try bayer fruit and veg, for a drench bayer complete insect killer is ruff on plants and after changing the res its still foams crazy. by the time I killed the aphids and gnats most of my plants were dead too.the c.i.k is kinda toxic to soil too. One lvpk I took out of hydro and into coco made it, the others got the dead roots washed and put back in a cleaned revamped system those died. No more rdwc for me too much stress and loss. rockin coco ebb and flo, and passive hydro for stability.
maybe try merit75 or botanigard es cuz the bayer is pretty harsh and takes forever if it even works, after three weeks of treatments they are still in my flower room.
good luck

my comment was in general and i did read the thread :)
i actually liked it so much, i started planning to copy you.

prevention is key with bugs/diseases.
