I speed a lot, so I flash a lot.
Ha ha...but you're probably a pretty darn good driver.

When I was growing up in CT peeps always signaled oncoming drivers after they went through a trap. I've been in Cali for over 25 years and hard for me to remember a time when someone has ever warned me of an oncoming trap. When I got here started flashing but soon felt like I was talking to a wall...HELLO...CHP ahead...HELLO...but no response the other way so stopped.

The point is speed limits are logically too low. Speed limits are no where near realistic.
In general I agree with that but there are also wreckless drivers regardless of speed and they should be banned...lol! My experience is like 10 MPH over is just fine EXCEPT in cities, high density housing, etc. where lots of peeps and traffic around. I live in the middle of nowhere so lots of nothing in between anything.

funny story that happened to my dad

he was cruising on the highway, was a bit over the limit

police was there with the radar, he signaled the 2 cars in front of my dad and my dad to the side...

first car goes to the side

then slowly the second one, then my dad decides to continue LOL

he didn't have a problem, I guess that was risky but he figured.. he has two, why lose two for one

(unless he'd pin some evading thing on him, but that could have been probably contested saying he didn't see him or something)

anyways I rarely saw people around my parts signal each other

I know I do, but recently I was driving with a friend in the next city, and all these people we're flashing their lights,
it's nice when people help each other

Sometimes you get away with things. A few years back in my late model Stang was driving through town at night and took the corner by the cop station a bit fast. Looked and didn't see any LEO in their cars but guess one was sitting in his car or close by cause soon saw some flashing lights behind me and for some reason my first response was to mash the gas pedal as I always immediately pull over. He never did catch me :). That would have been a hella ticket!

Anyway...was really surprised when I came to Cali no one was signaling for speed traps.

I signal - w/ tits and bacon, so...

Excellent use of the bacon option...

I flash mostly... but when I see nobs doing fu%$en double the speed limit I let them get $moked!! Unless u r an emergency worker u dont need to drive like a prick and put everyone else at increased risk!!!

75mph on a 100 mile trip. 80 minutes
65mph on a 100 mile trip. 92 minutes.

In 100 miles, the speeder saves 12 minutes vs the original time of 92 minutes, which is a 7.6% margin of time gained compared.

I'd say its worth it. I follow the 10% rule for speeding. usually. and I always flash.

I have heard of people in Canada being pulled over and getting tickets for warning drivers about police.

I remember an episode of Top Gear where Jeremy meets up with a guy that did that full time. He went all out with big cardboard warning signs. The cops didn't do anything. Just packed up and went to another spot.

Now over here in the land 'o the free its a different story

Escort is your friend. Sometimes I think it is advisable to not signal the straights so they can tie up the cops while I cruise on by. Depends.I don't even like to speak to cops if I can help it. It seems they always find some way to take me off for something if I even talk to them. Feels like armed robbery to me.

That is similar to one of my tricks.

I usually find a speeder on long trips, and pace their speed. Usually 85-90.

I then let them get ahead of me about 1/4 mile, and run them as kind of a interference/fall guy.

Yeah that. When they pass me I'm like...thank you :)

the older I get the fewer laws I break including now that I don't signal speed trap warnings to other drivers.

not enough people up here in northern MN do that to begin with, in fact I don't recall EVER getting warned by ANY motorists up here so would they even realize what I was signaling them for?

Depends on who is coming towards you. There are always at least two cops working a speed trap. If the second cop is coming towards you in an unmarked car or sitting over the hill or around the bend and you flash him. Then your hands are on the hood and you are being frisked for interfeiring in police business or whatever it is called in your neck of the woods. Then the cop finds probable cause and things snowball. Things can get nasty and expensive. It is the right thing to warn people but not always the smartest.

That's simply not true where I live. While it can happen sometimes, which is pretty rarely, up and down I5 in CA, OR or WA for the most part it's just one LEO in a car. Sometimes they gang up on peeps but very unusual. For most of the I5 stretch it's pretty much no man's land.

Be careful if you come east of the Mississippi.

If an when you drive around some parts of the West at some point it's like...where's LEO? Kind of like...where's Waldo? LOL! I've never been through Mississippi. Grew up in the Northeast and left there around '86. I've got no intentions of leaving my little burg in waaay NorCal. I've driven 250 or so miles up or down I5 and not a LEO in sight.

For sure though if I ever get back East again will be a bit more cautious.

Technically speed traps are meant to slow down drivers and are suppose to be around for public safety. By flashing your lights you are in effect doing the same thing. In fact you just saved the time of that officer from pulling over somebody and wasting there time.

You just did it instead for free. Its a win win situation. A cali court just came down with a decision that is almost identical to what I just typed.

I've been in Cali for about 25 years and can't remember any oncoming driver ever 'warning' me about a speed trap and can only guess it's an East coast thing?
