I ordered two 105w cfl's from 1000bulbs.com, they hopefully will get here soon!
How much of an area will they cover? They equal 420w! I have a 400w MH, I think I will use the cfl's for veg & MH for bloom, I have a conversion bulb for mh!:watchplant::plant grow:

Be careful when making comparisons between lamps. Those CFL's at 105 watts is equivalent to an incandescent of 400 watts not an HID light such as an MH or HPS. I would pay attention to your lumens over wattage, especially when comparing MH to CFL. I would say at least 1000 watts per square foot is good, but the plants can handle more if you give it to them.

hey everyone wanne use Cfl's for my next Veg. Until now i have only grown under HID so i seek some guidance.
Plan is to go for 3x36w T8 with 6700k from phillips in a 3x3ft. space planning on vegging 10-14 plants in there depending how many clones survive.
Question is will this be sufficent? plants can be given up to 50 days of veg so a slow growth shouldn't be to negative

If you are going to use florescent tubes use high output T-5's not the T-8's. The T-8's are great for cloning and early veg stages but not to keep mothers. The T-5's will be much better for keeping mothers.

I've changed my mind due to length issues and lumen output
i'm now going for 2 of these
MASTER PL-L 55W/865/4P 1CT
Hope it's ok to post the link cause it's no shopping-site

Will they be sufficient for a space of 2,5x2,5feet/ 80x80cm? the last week, maybe 2 of veg there will be a 400w HID in use.

You could use those, but I don't think you will get what you want out of them. If you are going to use those lamps you will want more than 2 in your space. For one you will not have nearly enough light for that size space, secondly if you are going to bump up to a 400w HPS for flower you will shock your plants severely. If you are planning on using HID lights in flower, I would suggest using the same in veg. If you are set on using CFL's in veg look into T-5 units. There are 2 foot units that would be good in your space. Some manufacturers also make single lamp T-5 units that can be daisy chained together. My best advice is do not settle on your lights just to save 10 bucks. Spend the extra money up front and you will get it back in the end product.

Thx for the reply!!
Whats the prob with those lamps??
I mean saving energy is the main issue for me, and if i can get the same lumenoutput or better ( 9xxx) I can still change to T5. but i haven't found any bulb that gives me more than 8x-90.
Money is not the problem, space is.

Those lamps do not offer all than many lumens. Also you are going to loose 50% of your light unless you build some kind of reflector to house those lamps. I am also not really sure what ratio you are using to determine the lumens of these lights, but you are overestimating their brightness.

Let me address the real issue here, why are you so intent on using CFL's right now? You have been using HID's until now why the change? If you are so intent on using florescent lighting go with a proper T-5 unit, especially if money is not the issue.

Whats the best way to go with cfl based on these grow specs? 30" high, 12" wide, 12" deep, planning on growing 2 plants. I want the best use of cfl possible for this space off 2 plants.

T5 HO in a 2' fixture actual grow space is 3'x'2x4'high, I have a scrubber I made from the ic threads, I grow 4 plants in an OBBT set up. Carbon scrubber with a 120MM fan pulling 170 cfpm. The whole set up works quite well actually. The pic are the current grow LSD,G13 and an unknown. The first pic's the box and the three plants at a month, the rest are the same plants taken today. Its day 34 of flower.

Good ingenuity ^^ I use those same buckets for rain water collection, or they make great planters.

Is there any difference between these 2 design? Which one will be the better choice for a grow cab 30"x20"x20"? Im planning on putting 4 of these in it each rated at 105w.

I think the Spiral one might be able to put out more light simply because of its shape, not sure if it will make a noticable diff with the buds...

Namaste :joint:

Been growing w/CFLs for a year now...in the middle of my re-veg grow....however this was from my last grow :dance013:

I'll join the CFL club. I got 8 x 23w and 2 x 44w.

From the 3 plants I got 68 grams total. Not too bad but i'm gonna upgrade to a 250w hps and keep the CFL cab as a veg chamber.
